You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and wear a mask.

Maybe he means "free of the shackles of government intervention for once"!

motherrunner · 02/03/2021 15:00

@JanFebAnyMonth

Although am not sure what he means by teachers needing to teach differently from how they've every taught before??
Well I’ll just stop doing all duties, revision classes, planning quartz lessons and I’ll rock in at 9 and leave at 3.40. That’ll be different for me.
piggywaspushed · 02/03/2021 15:01

3.40? That late? I might leave before the kids.

WhenSheWasBad · 02/03/2021 15:05

I’m going to start teaching through the medium of mime. They won’t learn anything but it will be good for a laugh.

WhiteWriting · 02/03/2021 15:24

Afternoon all, I saw this in my local paper - thought it was rather lovely...

Rule
At my GTP graduation, my mum said to him 'Oh, you're THAT ONE'. Which was great.
I love your Mum.

Piggy DH mostly calls me "The Wife" 🙄
But sometimes if he's tired or cross he calls me Carol.
Carol was his first wife...🤦🏻‍♀️🤭

WhenSheWasBad · 02/03/2021 15:52

So secondary kids in Scotland are going back part time until after Easter.

Sounds more sensible than the - Big Bang stick them all in same as before approach in England.

RigaBalsam · 02/03/2021 15:56

Thanks staff

Mistressiggi · 02/03/2021 16:28

I have listened to the Scottish update on schools return and I'm still none the wiser Confused
Thank you for the new thread Staff

Appuskidu · 02/03/2021 16:31

Kevan seems to be quite balanced in what he’s saying so far. Are they still going with the summer school idea though? I don’t know any teachers who want to do it-paid or otherwise.

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/03/2021 16:34

KevAn says trust individual schools to decide if summer school is a good idea.

Although that doesn't work for MATs I guess....

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 02/03/2021 16:37

We've had a summer school email but it is all subject to funding.

piggywaspushed · 02/03/2021 16:43

I frequently call DS1 by DH's name and vice versa when I am annoyed. because they are both infuriating. Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 02/03/2021 16:50

Someone on the Data thread's just raised a very obvious flaw with the hone tests - there's no checks on the results people report. At least I presume there's not.

So MrsH's mate - whose name has utterly escaped my mind at this point 😐- could upload a positive if he fancied 10 days off school (and Mum was between jobs!)

Saucery · 02/03/2021 16:56

No checks at all. You don’t even have to do the test, just input the serial number on it.

MrsHamlet · 02/03/2021 16:57

Bob!!!!!

Appuskidu · 02/03/2021 16:57

If you get a positive-do they not send you for a PCR test any more?

noblegiraffe · 02/03/2021 17:00

Home tests require a confirmatory PCR according to the DfE guidance, ones done in school don't.

Saucery · 02/03/2021 17:14

@Appuskidu

If you get a positive-do they not send you for a PCR test any more?
They do, but if you only want a few days off and only a postal PCR test will do........
JanFebAnyMonth · 02/03/2021 17:20

Ah so I wonder if that's the only reason the guidance says confirm with PCR test, no scientific reason? I'd been wondering. It's an anti-Bob measure.

But it's not as if school is going to insist on Bob returning if he's claiming a +ve LFT but refusing/prevaricating on PCR test, is it?

To be fair, this is not likely to be used as a tactic by many.....

Bob is Bob!

Saucery · 02/03/2021 17:21

I think it’s for the scientific reason that the LFTs are a pile of shite as well.

MrsHamlet · 02/03/2021 17:23

I love the idea that Bob might prevaricate.
wha' da fuck you sayin' I ain't no perv
No Bob. That's not what it means.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 02/03/2021 17:27

What is going on in Medway? Why are a third of schools closed there? Why is attendance much lower than the average? Medway was one of the areas hit by the new variant before Christmas.

Medway has been a hot mess the whole time. My friend lives there, and is extremely covid anxious, so we have coffee quite often. She can't work it out either.

MrsHamlet · 02/03/2021 17:30

I'm chuckling in the Aldi queue recalling a previous Bob who I told not to procrastinate.
"Eh.... she's calling you a wanker" starts his friend.
Nope. That's masturbate, gentlemen...

chocolateisavegetable · 02/03/2021 17:36

This genuinely made me laugh out loud Grin

and then it reminded me of the "karaoke for the deaf" videos - does anyone else remember those?
