You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and wear a mask.

From that schoolsweek article:

“In comparison, test and trace data for the nearly 14.5 million LFT tests logged on the National Testing Programme database since October shows an overall positivity rate of 0.6 per cent.“

But infection rates were much higher before Christmas and a lot of people taking LFTs in the early days were NHS staff or people in covid hotspots? I’m not sure that’s a valid comparison.

Turns lot o cpoms have picked some up

What was this meant to be Warrior?

NY still aren’t going back for months are they? I thought I’d heard September, somewhere.

Elementary are doing half weeks I think. In some places any way. Half class in Mon/Tues. Half Thurs/Friday. The special ed and SEN classes are in full time, but they have class sizes of less than 8 anyway. Or at least that’s how it is in the school district I used to work in.

@MrsHamlet

I had an email about Bob today asking what he has missed. My reply was: Poetry Macbeth Paper 1 Paper 2
Not much then. 🤦‍♀️
MrsHamlet · 04/03/2021 18:45

@Piggywaspushed

You could have just written 'English'.
I thought that might seem mean.
RandomGrammarPun · 04/03/2021 18:48

I think of all the people I know in group 6 (including me) approximately half have had a vaccine and half not. Let alone had time to build up immunity. But then we were in school as normal all last term (and at my school, we've been in 50% of this lockdown) when the rates were much higher than they currently are.

phlebasconsidered · 04/03/2021 18:50

@RigaBalsam at least we are not alone! I 2as starting to worry if i was just shit. She has periods of "bouncy ok" and she pops downstairs and cooks with me but then you can sort of see it slide off her. I just can't reach her. She has so much going on. Adolescence, developing with no chance to buy nice bras, scoliosis that she hasn't had a face to face for over a year, a declining gran living with us, and no sport, no friends face to face. Just a mum who is always in school! She's also become nocturnal. I got up at 3.30 the other day and she was downstairs making a smoothie!

borntobequiet · 04/03/2021 18:50

@Appuskidu

On FB this morning...

I would be interest to know which countries have prioritised vaccinating teachers.

I expect it’s the ones that actually value education, as opposed to those who just say they do.

Aww phleb it sounds very similar but without awful scoliosis. I am so sorry.

Mine used to go for a walk with her friend and now says she can't be bothered. My Dad heard her at 3.30 last night too. She won't do anything with me at all and wants me to go away.

Saucery · 04/03/2021 19:03

Ah I really feel for your dds. The nocturnal thing is quite common from what I’ve heard from friends. We just have to keep being there for when they want to talk, or communicate in any other way and make sure they know there is a way through this. It’s not just academic work that can be caught up with, it’s the lightness and joy of socialising and relative normality for non-Covid issues.

Good news for those in group 6:

All group 6 should be able to book online within the next 48 hrs www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4183213-All-group-6-should-be-able-to-book-online-within-the-next-48-hrs

Ummm...

Turns out I could have picked some up this morning?

The lft for parents? I had somehow assumed they were for secondary parents. We got a letter from school this week and that was the first I heard of it. My own school haven't mentioned it.

WarriorN · 04/03/2021 19:33

We've just had some conversations about screen time and ds. (Phenomenal Blush)

And the Dh spends half an hour on the new football app he got yesterday with him. (I suppose they're both playing it and sharing but still, not the point after what we discussed!)

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/03/2021 19:51

Interesting response to my posting the Schoolsweek article on the LFT results on Data thread.

Piggywaspushed · 04/03/2021 19:53

Had an email earlier about a Bobette. She hasn’t attended any lessons since October (school refused). Today I’m asked to provide all work that she has missed since then.

W.T.F???!!!

On a happier note, with today being World Book Day, I had a chat with my form about all their fave books and as they’re Yr 8 and DD is Yr 5, she sat in too and they were so lovely to her!

MrsHamlet · 04/03/2021 19:56

Erm.... how the hell is she ever going to catch that up????

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 04/03/2021 19:59

One of our school refused parents has lodged an official complaint because we said we have no evidence to grade them, therefore unless they got into school and produced some evidence, they'll get all. Us.

Another parent has emailed 40+ times saying that we can't LFT her child because she doesn't want Bill Gates microchip inside them.

Only in England. I've chased up mine with the Welsh phone number. After 11 attempts I was finally connected to be told they are only doing 2nd vaccines at the moment. I was told to call back in 3 weeks.

phlebasconsidered · 04/03/2021 20:02

@motherrunner aw that is sweet! In the opposite shoe, i've had to call my teens in the day while i've been in school with my bubble and my two have been very kind to my bubble who are unfeasibly interested in them and my dog. They've waved the dogs paw for them while i've called them via WhatsApp under the visualiser. They are really invested in my elderly dog learning a new trick. Which he nearly has, if enough food is offered!

I spent an hour listing all tasks, sign posting to where resources could be found, found links to tutorials etc...

Return email from Head of House said ‘mum is keen for her to have caught up be return to school next week’.

I actually laughed out loud.

motherrunner · 04/03/2021 20:09

@phlebasconsidered It really was. They asked her about her fave books and replied ‘oh we’ve read that!’ and they talked about their favourite parts/characters. At the end of the session they said ‘bye Mrs Mother’s kid’’. Sometimes the little things makes it all worthwhile.

oddsbodkins · 04/03/2021 20:09

My lovely bubble of 8 is now down to 6 as 2 of my KW kids have parents who have tested positive for Covid. Just what you need with one working day left before the big bang reopening.

As a Group 6 CV member of staff who is currently un-vaccinated, I don't mind telling you, I am scared to bloody death....

noblegiraffe · 04/03/2021 20:13

HT needs to email that parent back and explain that it's the vaccines that give the Bill Gates microchip, not the LFTs.
