You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Congratulations, Pumpkin!

I have been an 8 mile walk, made a tea loaf and a wholemeal bread loaf.

I have not looked at the bin fire that is other threads on MN.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/02/2021 17:39

Eww - I started reading a couple of threads and saw the same old same old and thought nah. Not worth it.

Tories currently think the labour leader is the bees knees, and so ballsy for going against the unions. Says it all really. They won't vote for him obviously because they're tories so not sure whose votes he thinks he's winning so far.

I've made the decision that the students can go back, but I won't. Contacting Dr tomorrow about my stress levels and how they are making my heart beat out of my chest - all true but normally would just get on with it. No more, now I'm looking after me first. Vaccine not for another 7 weeks minimum (notice they say offered before 17/4, not given - could be some waiting list).

chocolateisavegetable · 21/02/2021 17:46

Well done mumsneedwine - I'm proud of you for putting your own health first Flowers

Saucery · 21/02/2021 17:47

Don’t blame you, mumsneedwine. If a job is causing such distress it is affecting mental health and manifesting as physical symptoms then it’s perfectly understandable.
If it were ever in doubt it has been proved time and time again this last year that we need to prioritise ourselves and our families, because no bugger else will give them a second thought.

Timeturnerplease · 21/02/2021 17:47

Congrats @PumpkinPie2016 - I didn’t even dare start mine!

I have spent all day trying to rationalise the toddler’s increasingly unreasonable behaviour this week - e.g. she must be ill/know I’m pregnant/is traumatised by being a child of two working parents - and have come to the conclusion that she’s just being a knob.

I don’t blame you-my anxiety levels are just through the roof and I’m not due to be done until summer, or autumn-who knows.

The posters I’ve been reading today-‘teachers just need to get on with it’ combined with the press and their ‘Keir stands firm against unions’, ‘Hancock sees no need to vaccinate teachers’ ‘big BANG: all schools back on 8th despite union demands’ etc etc just make me feel sick.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 21/02/2021 17:50

Well done pumpkin. Have you found the NPQML useful? I'm pondering it but wonder if it will be useful or just another box tick exercise. (No offence intended, have heard varying things. I expect a lot is down to the course provider).

mumsneed Good for you. I hope you get the mental health break you need and only return when you are ready.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2021 17:51

I have no actual wine in the house.

Do I:

A) Walk to the shop - this getting exercise, fresh air and all that shit.
B) Stay put, because it’s honestly better not to drink the night before term starts.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2021 17:52

mumsneedwine

I’m taking your presence as a vote for A. Also it’s good you’re prioritising yourself. Teachers are shit at that.

mumsneedwine · 21/02/2021 17:53

If they'd vaccinated me this week I'd be back on the 8th like a shot. Smiling and up for diving back into normal classroom. But I'm 53, chubby and take heart pills. It's such a shame it's come to this.

mumsneedwine · 21/02/2021 17:54

@SmileEachDay can you grab me a bottle as I'm out too 😊

A (and get chocolate too)
mumsneedwine · 21/02/2021 17:56

Normally I often take sweets in to lessons to give as rewards. I'm still doing this while remote teaching. Will say 'well done Mark, here are your sweets'. And then eat them ! Kids seem to find it really funny.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2021 17:56

That’s 100% and I better take a backpack.

I’ll give it 10 mins...

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 17:58

Definitely wine. I've just made coconut cookies which look like they're going to disintegrate. Bugger.

SmileEachDay · 21/02/2021 17:59

Mrs are you hoping the wine will stick them together?

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 18:01

It's worth a try.... they're dedicated coconut, a smidge of sugar, and some coconut milk. That's it.

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 18:01

Desiccated

TheHoneyBadger · 21/02/2021 18:03

Can't beat a dedicated coconut.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/02/2021 18:05

I have cupboards full of wine but sadly no teleporter. I'm on gin and tonic after having eaten pizza. Not a good for the diet day but meh. Need a bad day now and then.

I think I may line up about 5 gin and tonics just out of camera shot for parents evening.

RigaBalsam · 21/02/2021 18:06

I can't cope with the bloody road map tomorrow and going back to work with a 2 hour meeting after work, after 5 weeks off, all in one day.
Ugh!
It's only a 5 week term! and repeat.

CallmeAngelina · 21/02/2021 18:07

Ooh, if anyone's going up to the shop, can they get me a Cadbury's popping candy bar? Last chance saloon, before diet starts tomorrow. I reckon if I'm hard-core, I can get back into my work clothes in two weeks.

chocolateisavegetable · 21/02/2021 18:07

I hope you weren't planning to take them to school tomorrow and put them on a table? Especially if that table had chairs near it
HarrietDVane · 21/02/2021 18:07

Congratulations @PumpkinPie2016!

And well done @mumsneedwine - you need to put yourself and your health first. We are being thrown under a bus here. If the Fail is correct and we are all back at once on 8th March, then we will inevitably be facing a further spike. Rates in my local area are still extremely high and we had a number of positives in school just before we broke up for half term. I can't see the rate falling significantly in the next fortnight.
