You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I’d like to throw in the deliciousness of Frangelico.

It’s like a yummy hazelnut ‘slip down’ served best on ice.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 19/02/2021 21:40

Is it like Baileys? I am averse to any milky style alcohol.

ChloeDecker · 19/02/2021 21:46

It’s not milky. It’s clear. A bit like Amerulo (but nicer in my opinion!)

Comes in a really weird bottle though.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 21:48

I'll take prosecco Noble. Or a sauv blanc, a red, vodka, biere blond.....

But there is no way these days I can have more than about two units per evening, and then only on the occasional evening.

But I apparently have a sensitive palette: on an organised walking holiday in France once, two members of our party decided to put the old "Is it really worth paying 5 times as much for posh wine?" question to the test. They arranged a blind tasting for all 20 of us. I was one of the only two who preferred the £25 (or whatever the equivalent was in euros) wine. I think the other connoisseur was one of the French girls. From then on, I was known as Posh Bird.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 19/02/2021 21:48

Oh that does sound nice.

off to order another bottle of MN inspired booze

I'm too pissed for nobles thread, that ice cream comment...

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 21:51

I can't drink prosecco, it makes me really ill next day. Champers, not a problem.

I like wine but I definitely think cheap wine is full of sulphites and that's what makes me feel rough. I drink wine very rarely now, and when I do I make sure it's decent.

My G&Ts are very long, best part of a pint of tonic. Last longer and less hangover risk. I am a total lightweight now I'm an old hag, I cannot handle my alcohol any more.

Looking forward to being the embarrassing mum to teens, tipsy and mum dancing in the corner 🤣🤣🤣

CarrieBlue · 19/02/2021 21:55

@JanFebAnyMonth - pink port is my summer aperitif - I’m not a gin fan either. Normal red port or my homemade plum brandy for winter.
Prosecco doesn’t seem to leave me with a hangover, which is nice!

CallmeAngelina · 19/02/2021 22:10

That's put me in mind of some of the absolute shit we used to drink back in the 70s when I was the oldest-looking in my group, so usually copped for buying the alcohol.
Creme de menthe and lemonade, anyone? Southern Comfort and lemonade? Dubonnet and lemonade?
With Sobranie Cocktail cigarettes - they came in a square tin and were black with gold tips, or bright colours.
We thought we were so cool.

Nah. Hooch and Two Dogs were the height of sophisticated teen me!

When Reef, Bacardi Breezers and Smirnoff Ice came out, I was enjoying those 50p Wednesday nights at Uni!

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 22:15

I make mine very long too Guy with slimline tonic - it slows me down and means less calories. Ds mocks the amount of tonic water I need in the house to feel secure. When I stopped drinking for a couple of years I used to have elderflower cordial and tonic. I love tonic.

Dog has peed and no I haven't poured myself a glass of wee Noble Grin

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 19/02/2021 22:18

Reef, hooch and bottles of white lightening were our drinking delights. If it was a proper sesh, Glen's vodka was mixed with hooch. I think the sugar hangover was worse than the alcohol one.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 22:19

And yes to feeling kak after prosecco and any cheap white wine. I got some nice ones in my Virgin 15 bottle case for switching bank account but I'm very cautious with wine these days as it does tend to make me feel like crap the next day.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 22:20

When we go to Egypt I will buy you all one of their alcopops - it's a lot like reef but nice flavours and 9%! Lethal but lovely and like being a teenager again.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 22:22

@TheHoneyBadger I have a sodastream and make my own tonic, it's fantastic. No more flat tonic for me 👍

As a late 90s uni kid i was mixing alcopops too. Sports player at uni and early 2000s, I was basically a functioning alcoholic. Cheeky vimtos (blue WKD and port), Moscow Mules, Turbo Shandy (lager and Smirnoff ice)....you name it, I drank it. Madness.

Appuskidu · 19/02/2021 22:23

Oooh, I liked Hooch back in the day! You didn’t think you were drunk at all till you stood up!

Does anyone remember Thunderbird? It was like wine, but much less good.

We used to call it chunderbird at school university

ChloeDecker · 19/02/2021 22:25

Oooh, I liked Hooch back in the day! You didn’t think you were drunk at all till you stood up!

That’s me and Pimms Grin

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 19/02/2021 22:25

Hooch was a silent killer! I'd forgotten cheeky vimtos, many pints of those at university.

I remember drinking Lambrini like I was proper sophisticated.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 22:27

ID Edge is what it's called! In a pint glass with lots of ice and a straw. They also do a premixed gin drink that is a similar strength and caught me out last time I was there.

Their wine is largely very offensive even at the expensive end, their spirits a bit dodgy and imported spirits insanely expensive. I buy Jack Daniels when it's on offer here for just over £20 and sell it to bars there for more than £50 and they let you take 2l in in your suitcase. That £100 made on Jack D usually covers my food and drink for a week or so. Their duty free is outside of the airport and you are allowed to buy stupid amounts and can go back within a week and buy more. All very strange and people are quite keen to know if you've used your duty free allowance.

Monkeytennis97 · 19/02/2021 22:27

Hate Prosecco
Hate gin
Hate white wine

Love Red wine
Love Baileys
Love Tia Maria

Like Rose
Like pimms
Like cold beer on a hot day

Not a big drinker here.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 22:28

What was it called when you mixed cider and lager? I forget.

Monkeytennis97 · 19/02/2021 22:29

@Appuskidu yup remember Thunderbird. DH and I (been together since teen years) used to get it. Yuck!

borntobequiet · 19/02/2021 22:32

A drink of the early 70s - I can’t imagine it in any other decade - known as a Happy Days, was a pint of Guinness of which you drank a third, poured in a bottle of barley wine, and finished. It was vile.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 22:32

I've never been a big drinker.
Pink port sounds interesting though!

CarrieBlue · 19/02/2021 22:32

Snakebite - lethal
JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 22:33

Ah, Guinness 🤮
