You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@JanFebAnyMonth

I've never been a big drinker. Pink port sounds interesting though!
It’s really lovely. White port too.
Appuskidu · 19/02/2021 22:33

@TheHoneyBadger

What was it called when you mixed cider and lager? I forget.
Snakebite?

And then add blackcurrant and it became ‘snakebite and black’. Well classy!

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/02/2021 22:33

I used to drink all the alcopops as well. Archers and lemonade was my drink of choice. Then I went to Australia on a gap year and discovered midori, a bright green melon liqueur, which was so incredibly sweet I obviously changed to that. Or there was one called Mississippi mud slide, which was basically alcoholic chocolate milk, yum.

Now I don't drink at all. My vice is sugar, in any form. And that is what I'm not supposed to eat now 😭

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 22:34

@TheHoneyBadger snakebite

Add blackcurrant squash and it's a snakeyb.

Drink of hockey tours everywhere.

Monkeytennis97 · 19/02/2021 22:35

@CarrieBlue and then add black currant to it too... staple drink for us around 1990.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 22:35

@MsAwesomeDragon my husband makes a great mudslide. Christmas only though, they're lethal!!

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 22:36

When I was in Turkmenistan, we decided to have a G&T in the hotel bar on the last night. £30!!!!! We had the much cheaper "local wine" instead.
That was rough and lethal.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 22:39

Oh yes I've had white port I think

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/02/2021 23:00

How was Turkmenistan? Did you go to the other stans too in a silk rd sort of way?

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 23:01

Snakebite thank you! Yes lethal!

You can add tia maria to guiness and that has a name I've forgotten too.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 23:03

Irish Russians!

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 23:03

I did. Started in Kazakhstan, then Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. It was amazing... very otherworldly at times. I wouldn't go back to Turkmenistan except for the Gates of Hell. It's a very odd place.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 23:09

This'll keep us warm!

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 23:10

Thank you Guy. You're good at this game!

I had an ex who managed a gold mine in Tajikistan. That's an interesting trip MrsH. You should give us a slide show when we get together.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/02/2021 23:13

Dropped casually into the conversation:
I had an ex who managed a gold mine in Tajikistan

ShockShock

GuyFawkesDay · 19/02/2021 23:15

I think it's a very misspent youth @TheHoneyBadger 🙈

How is your back/shoulder tonight?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/02/2021 23:21

I almost went on a trip to Iran and the stans. A friend of a friend was going to come with me, which made me more comfortable about going to Iran. Then on a planning evening out he got all handsy and weird.

I went to Patagonia alone instead.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 23:21

I liked Tajikistan :)
It's really bloody sore but the hot water bottle, the little gin and the massive pizza helped.
There are A LOT of slides! I highly recommend the company I went with.

TaxTheRatFarms · 19/02/2021 23:29

Goshdarnit! “That” thread closed before I could point out that goats have 8 toes, not 4. I feel bereft. Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 23:32

Yeah but it was a good ending wasn't it?

Speaking of animals (albeit fake ones), inspired by yesterday’s viewing of Tremors, I am laughing at the delights of The Meg this evening.

Is it me or is it the same plot line as Jaws 3!? Grin

“Midori” is Japanese for “green” - I always thought it sounded so exotic! It was also, completely uncoincidentally, the first colour name I remembered in Japanese. Turns out alcohol is useful!
TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 23:34

We got called minions. Is that new? Fairly insulting but hey ho.

Can I recommend Soulmates on Amazon Prime. Only a six episode season set in the future where you can take a test and they find your soulmate. 6 different relationships effected by it in the 6 different episodes.

TaxTheRatFarms · 19/02/2021 23:34

It was a cracker, Honey Smile I’m glad it didn’t end on my rather shit goat-fact!

TaxTheRatFarms · 19/02/2021 23:35

I’m not going to rest until we get “underlings”.
