You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Does anyone here have any laptop knowledge? I need a new one (Windows) that will do what I need for work (office, teams, Internet) and have no idea what sort of spec I need. Prices seem to vary from £400-£2500!

WhenSheWasBad · 19/02/2021 18:21

You don’t like gin jan Shock

I’ve got a Jaffa cake gin that’s rather lovely. Always have time for Tanqueray 10. Monkey 47 is really rather good (if expensive).

I’m not too fussy though. Love flavoured gin.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 18:23

I asked our head of comp sci to come with me when I bought mine. It's an acer and was about £500

That's a similar spec to mine (I5 etc) which is a Lenovo Ideapad and was £600 3 years ago. Have been very pleased with it.

Ds has an Asus super lightweight laptop for Uni and was a bit more expensive than mine for a similar spec BUT it is so light and you pay a lot more for that.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 18:28

Mine was bought in a rush... it was a case of what do Curry's have that meets the spec and I can leave with now.

He didn't enjoy curry's!

winewolfhowls · 19/02/2021 18:35

Unlurking to wave hello and say I'll drop in more often if you're all serving up cillian Murphy and gin cocktails.

I definitely think you can get a good laptop for under 500 quid if it's just for school style stuff. A lot of the more expensive models are aiming at gamers or people music or video editing. I don't have much technical knowledge but last time I bought one i ignored the big companies and found a relatively local company online, seemed to get more for my money.

Virtual flowers and sympathy for all those with pain, the memory of back pain especially, and how debilitating and how unexpectedly so too, is enough to give me the shudders.

My gin is rhubarb and ginger my favourite, but im also out of tonic and umming over drinking it neat or not bothering.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 18:36

Rhubarb and ginger over lots of ice.... mmmm

winewolfhowls · 19/02/2021 18:37

Also forgot to say my current laptop is a lenovo one and it's been great

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 18:37

There's an impressive range of gins on here. You'll have the lurkers thinking we get paid too much.

I am bringing down the tone with my supermarket gin

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2021 18:38

My work one is a Lenovo Thinkpad and it’s brilliant. One of my colleagues tripped and literally flung hers across her classroom and it was basically fine.

Saucery · 19/02/2021 18:38

DS has always had a Lenovo and it has coped well with school work and whatever assorted crap an 11-17 yr old needs on a laptop.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 18:39

Aldi and Lidl do a nice range of gins. A lot of mine come from students .... us for ourselves won't like that

Cantaloupeisland · 19/02/2021 18:41

Loving the mental image of Boris cowering in a circle of union leaders, perhaps as the NEU squares up to him and Unison shouts 'go on, deck 'im!' from behind

Saucery · 19/02/2021 18:42

You'll have the lurkers thinking we get paid too much.

I’m support staff. Can’t even be arsed to do my PGCE.....🤷‍♀️ And yet here I am, drinking fancy pants gin. Sucks to be them, huh.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/02/2021 18:44

I’ve had HPs and have been happy with them!

Timeturnerplease · 19/02/2021 18:50

Thanks @motherrunner - DP would like to lock me up in a cupboard until the baby is born!

You’re all making me very jealous with this gin talk. My drink of choice is too embarrassing to admit, but I’d kill for one right now. Drink my share please.

MrsHamlet · 19/02/2021 18:51

You're going to have to tell us now, time

namechangedyetagain · 19/02/2021 18:51

I too am usually wine on a fri (sauv blanc). As a proper poor student I only buy wine in aldi though, their flavoured gins are also gorgeous. My mum gets a gin box so I get everything she doesn't like passed my way Smile

Favourite thing is a little sloe gin or sicilian lemon gin mixed with prosecco🥂.

Had a glass of wine left in a bottle who knew so I'm having that instead. The thought of unfinished planning and wagolls is making me twitchy.

winewolfhowls · 19/02/2021 18:57

Wine like actually left over?! You must have a will of steel woman!

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2021 19:01

I did not do work today. This means Sunday is a total write off

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 19/02/2021 19:07

Thanks for the laptop info, I'll have a get searching.

smile I'm deliberately leaving mine. Means I won't procrastinate over it if I do it in a rush Sunday eve. Sod it.

motherrunner · 19/02/2021 19:12

Can I just say Cillian Murphy seemed to make him very easy in the last series of ‘Peaky Blinders’?

He just needed a lot of potatoes, lots of barrels and a fuck loaf of Irish charm.

motherrunner · 19/02/2021 19:12

*gin not him

TheHoneyBadger · 19/02/2021 19:19

My fantasy used to be that I would breed goats and make over priced goats cheese. Apologies to the veggies on here but I would also have a halal butcher and make a killing at Eid and other festivals having families come and pick their goat for slaughter and donate a portion to mosques for feeding the needy etc. as is supposed to be done.

I love goats but realistically what are you going to do with the males?
