I posted something on Data yesterday reporting infections found significantly more in children in that area of Italy and in Israel now.

Why are they all getting excited about the falling numbers (yes, of course, good in the short term and good for people not dying etc!) but almost completely ignoring scientists' warning about new variants and what might happen if we reopen too early???

Phew! Caught up! Belated thanks for the new thread, Staff. I've been tackling a long overdue wardrobe clear out - such a rock n roll lifestyle here. Unfortunately it has made me want to have a grand clear out everywhere else in the house, but time was against me today. I'm still keeping all the chairs though

It does worry me that the new variant (or any new variant) has mutated to be more prevalent in children.

So we have to sit with each kid in turn ( where is this time coming from, I have 2 y11 and 2 y13 classes) and tell them they are getting a 3,9,C or A*

Because for them it’s all about the numbers and they (in general) can be very selective in what they want to hear (as you’ve observed previously).
I haven’t looked on there today because having more fun elsewhere but I might look now.

Bob has a 9 target. His dad emails me weekly to tell me that Bob is capable of a 9. These weekly emails are in response to my "Bob... you've still submitted no work" emails.
Bob skipped all of the work in lockdown one (Macbeth and poetry and paper 1 Lang) and has skipped all of the work this time (revision of Macbeth and poetry). I cannot give Bob a grade 9 for either GCSE because I simply do not have the evidence.
I also do not have the time or inclination to sit down with Bob to tell him this.
Bob, incidentally, has become nocturnal and can't be expected to attend live lessons or watch the recordings of them. He has a MacBook (I know this because it gets mentioned a lot) so that issue isn't tech.
This new idea is really really dumb.

Bob doesn't deserve a 9. Pupils who can't figure out from last year that submitting no work was going to be an issue clearly aren't grade 9 material.
