You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I have marking if anyone wants it....

RandomGrammarPun · 17/02/2021 14:38

I am about to go back through three years of calendars (nice and greasy from being stored on top of the kitchen cupboards) ensuring I haven't missed transferring anything important to the 2021 calendar.

Yes, I also have tons of school stuff to do.

sherrystrull · 17/02/2021 14:42

Not quite bored enough for school work. Worked my arse off last week to get ahead thinking a break would be lovely over half term. Sadly there's nowt to do!

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 14:45

I keep finding marking. It doesn't help that my to do list had 12 items (9 ticked off) but three were just class codes.
Turns out that random very old marking has appeared (the arsy Friday emails worked!) which I now have to do.

OpheliasCrayon · 17/02/2021 14:45

@Piggywaspushed

DS1 does keep saying he needs an eyetest, to be fair.
Well then, you could go now I think.
MrsHerculePoirot · 17/02/2021 14:51

Just popping in to say I had the call and we are getting a puppy!!! Probably middle of Easter holidays! @Saucery I’m deffo up for a support PM if you do get new puppy too.... 🎉🎉🎉

Frlrlrubert · 17/02/2021 15:02

I'm about 60% through planning next week. Next up: Empirical formulae - hard enough in the classroom. I predict they won't 'get' it.

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 15:03

I don't even get what you just said Frlrlrubert!

HarrietDVane · 17/02/2021 15:10

So happy for you, Monkey!

I am in a real grump today. The house is a tip but I have no energy or motivation to sort it out. I'm just scrolling mindlessly on my phone feeling vaguely dissatisfied with everything. I need to snap out of it but... meh.

WhenSheWasBad · 17/02/2021 15:11

Argh. I’m dropping loads of empirical formula into my starter questions with year 7. Just the very easy stuff.

I’m thinking if I just keep drip feeding it in they will eventually all get it. So far only about 10 out 60 are there but I’m optimistic.

Teaching it online is a nightmare.

HA!

GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2021 15:30

I'm pretending I don't have work until Sunday 🙈

Took kids to the big park and found some school friends so they had a play together which was perfect. Probs against the rules but meh.

Done some gardening. Should tidy up really but i just can't be bothered!

WhenSheWasBad · 17/02/2021 15:33

Sounds like you are playing chicken with work guy I’m trying to do a little bit most days.

The plan is to get ahead.

CallmeAngelina · 17/02/2021 15:43

That will be what my issue is. I'm not too heavy, I'm just not tall enough.

Although I think we did all this the other day.

MrsHamlet · 17/02/2021 15:50

I'm out. I've got one lot of essays to mark but I don't see them til the end of the week, and a scheme of work to plan but I can't be arsed. The other class on the list have done bugger all but that's up to them.... looking forward to those grade conversations.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/02/2021 16:07

I've done all the nothing. Sorted through some paperwork piles, discovered ds needs a new passport -again. This will be the last 5 year one thankfully. Mustn't forget but can't be arsed today.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make myself do the school work till last minute either.

I quite fancy a nap but trying to keep regular steps up.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/02/2021 16:12

I'm not doing any school work until the weekend. I have made that decision and I am planning on sticking to it. I am attempting to get the house sorted, a bit at a time. Still working on the living room, decluttering, moving furniture to vacuum underneath, etc. Also vacuuming the stairs, which is a pain as we have a combination of crap carpet and a rubbish hoover. It's been quite a productive day, but dd has been ignored again, which wasn't quite the idea.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2021 16:29

I did a few big work days last week, wrote my reports and planned up to 8th march. It all needs setting and sorting on OneNote but that's an ongoing "thing". I'm lucky that I have to teach outside specialism and someone else does lots of the hard work because honestly, I am clueless. Makes my life a bit easier!

Frlrlrubert · 17/02/2021 16:51

Year 7? Oh my days. Good on you starting them early though. This is year 9, so calculating it from percentage mass...

OpheliasCrayon · 17/02/2021 16:59

I've worked out how many weeks extra I need to plan, because we didn't use all the planning this term due to lockdown, not all kids being in/ some being in other bubbles, and then me being off and then a snow day
So I'm working on the basis i probably need 3 more weeks of lessons .... I am optimistically thinking that I will be in work on Monday but ... I think that is somewhat misplaced optimism.

Saucery · 17/02/2021 17:06

As support staff I feel a bit guilty not to have all the prep to do over half term. I am already monumentally bored and missing the excitement of getting out of the house and going to work. Have a Mental Health course to be getting on with, but it’s pretty basic.

@MrsHerculePoirot excellent news! Have PMed you.

@Monkeytennis97 brilliant half term for you, so pleased to hear your DS has been able to spend time at home with you.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/02/2021 17:16

Question for you: if your HoD sent an email about what we are teaching after half term which is wrong, and is asking what/how we are teaching KS3, what would you think?

CallmeAngelina · 17/02/2021 17:18

I'd think, "I'm not dealing with that now, as I'm on holiday, busy doing nothing."

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 17:19

Do you mean the first bit was about KS3 too?
