You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I have to admit Martin Lewis is a bit hyper. I always feel slightly scolded when he's finished a tirade of advice.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 21:59

@twinkletoesimnot Oh. My. God.

RandomGrammarPun · 16/02/2021 22:02

Well that is rather more interesting information about you than the collection of Rosemary Conley videos, Ange Grin.

(Piggy, that was deliberate misdirection Wink.)

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 16/02/2021 22:05

Mr Tumble ShockEnvy

Martin Lewis would be very energetic, I'd never keep up.

CallmeAngelina · 16/02/2021 22:06

Don't you be dissing Rosemary, now!
I wish I could report that I had been puffing up and down my sitting room getting back to some sort of fitness with her, but I'd be lying.

CallmeAngelina · 16/02/2021 22:07

Ooh, and Larry Lamb.
Or I might mean "Mick." I reckon Larry is a bit of a lad in real life.

MrsHamlet · 16/02/2021 22:12

There's a continuity announcer on radio 4 who I could listen to all day. I think it's Neil Nunes. If it's Zebedee Soanes, I've gone right off him.
Also... whilst googling to try to find out, I came across this. Chairs. Again.

Re Alexander Armstrong... well, associated people anyway : I was at uni with Ben Miller. He used to be quite nice. Reunion dinner recently: rather full of himself, I thought.

DH and I went off Ben Miller when he was very rude about the standard of science teaching in schools. Considering he was in his 40s at the time I doubt he had much of a clue about current teaching of any subject. He mentioned his own experience at school as the basis of his expertise. Hmm
JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 22:39

Hmm. You know he was a physicist, abandoned a PhD halfway through for the lure of the greasepaint. Allegedly.

Beachhuts90 · 16/02/2021 22:42

@chocolateisavegetable

Beach I've just finished the Thursday Murder Club. What sort of thing do you normally read?
Was that good?

I read everything, mainly fiction but I like humor and biography and history and essays too if they're something I'm into!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/02/2021 22:43

So, in Pretty in Pink, she was meant to end up with Ducky, but test audiences (and Mollie Ringwald), didn't like the ending, so they changed it. Was meant to end with her picking Ducky up on the dance floor, instead of seeing Blaine.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 16/02/2021 22:48

Mr Tumble🧐 🤮. Martin Lewis knows maths and money. That’s enough. I don’t know anyone famous but I’d want all the gossip on the other celebs if I did.

Beachhuts90 · 16/02/2021 22:49

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation

If anyone wants a gentle book, Leonard and Hungry Paul is good. Gentle story, well written and just nice.

Furloughed DH was supposed to have been cleaning during term time.... This hasn't happened.

Thank you! I've requested that my library bring this from another branch now. The sample I read was very unique.

Yes, that’s why I was so disappointed in him.
MsAwesomeDragon · 16/02/2021 23:13

I'm not sure I can join in with this conversation. I can't remember the last time I fancied someone on the telly. I'm not really into the traditional chiseled good looks, I like a bit of a scruff with a cheeky twinkle in his eye.

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 23:23

Anyway, we must hush, mustn't get derailed....

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 23:32

I wonder if shielding being extended until 31 Mar gives a hint as to when schools might go back?

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/02/2021 23:35

I was thinking it indicated schools wouldn't return on 8 Mar (although I know the new shielding guidance still says '8 Mar at the earliest' for school return). However an alternative view is that they've done this precisely because schools will be opening and R will rise.

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/02/2021 23:44

I'm thinking it might be that schools will open on 8th March, then some other things will open at the start of April, so shielding has just been extended until they want people to actually go back to physical jobs.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/02/2021 00:02

You all have far more mojo than me. Haven't had male company for nearly 2 years. A bit of drunken beard stroking and a snog with a visiting welsh dog trainer and an after hours snog with a sweet but very incompatible village boy and that's it for mojo flutters in the last couple of years.

I'm good at weird totally wouldn't actually go there crushes though. Our ginger kind of shy nothing in common it support guy is the closest I have to a crush. The dathraki dude in got would work though

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 00:20

@JanFebAnyMonth

They've just added 1.7 million people and shielding was just about to run out. How many people would start properly shielding if they thought might only going on for a couple of weeks more, even if it was then extended in the roadmap next week? So they added another month..

They've probably not extended it past March yet because they don't want to pre-empt the roadmap.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/02/2021 00:33

Honey, there's mojo (- phwoar CHemsworth!) and mojo (- drunken snogs in actual RL). Somewhat different from each other I'd say!

I do wish I hadn't misread your sentence initially, thought you'd been snogging border collies for a second.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2021 00:37

You misread that, Jan, I misread this from Ange

"wish I could report that I had been puffing up and down my sitting room getting back to some sort of fitness with her"

And thought she was suggesting getting jiggy with Rosemary Conley.

Till I remembered her job.
