You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

pepper everything with 'silly me!' type exclamation marks.

I go back through emails and delete some exclamation marks and replace them with full stops so I don't sound too demented.

Why do you think you're seen as abrasive then?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/02/2021 18:50

piggy I know what you mean. I'm seen as feisty but this is mainly down to a lack of filter and swearing lots. Emails I have to go through and delete exclamation marks or apologies. I've never seen a bloke apologise via email yet I get probably one a day from women containing 'sorry....'.

People don't like women with opinions.

flumposie · 15/02/2021 18:52

@Monkeytennis97 that's brilliant news.

Frlrlrubert · 15/02/2021 19:00

Fab news Monkey, so chuffed for you Smile

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/02/2021 19:03

Just caught up with the rest, fab news monkey

I don't remember being paid for coursework moderation. I between leaving school and teacher training maths course work went. Did stats for a bit though.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:04

Glad it's not just me deleting exclamation marks!! Oops.....

WhenSheWasBad · 15/02/2021 19:05

monkey that’s great news so pleased for you.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 19:13

No idea really noble. I know I get excitable in meetings but I think that is largely puppy dog enthusiasm for debate. I express opinions which is probably not the done thing. I am strict with kids where some want me to be a bit more fluffy perhaps. But I am definitely not a face like a slapped backside type.

I have been told I am intimidating!

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 19:13

Oh, see... that was the exclamation mark again!

again.

noblegiraffe · 15/02/2021 19:20

How can you be intimidating when you are so short?

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 19:21

Heels. Scottish.

noblegiraffe · 15/02/2021 19:21

I'm seen as feisty

Men are never feisty are they?

MrsHamlet · 15/02/2021 19:22

I'm apparently passive aggressive. I don't see it ;)

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:27

My DD informed me yesterday that several of her friends find me scary. I lol'd.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:30

Chic, am borrowing this article that you just posted elsewhere, it explains in Johnson's own words what he means by irreversible - as we thought:

go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/15/no-decisions-schools-return-in-england-staggered-boris-johnson-lockdown-reopening

I think it'll hinge on what data's coming back from the surge testing, and the research about the new variants/ vaccination.

FrippEnos · 15/02/2021 19:31

Those that did the Warwick study have 'admitted their paper was 'an absence of evidence rather than evidence of absence' of risk'

So once again they are quoting an inaccurate source.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:31

*choc !

borntobequiet · 15/02/2021 19:31

@noblegiraffe

How can you be intimidating when you are so short?
The most intimidating teacher I ever met was tiny, well under 5ft. I once saw her march between two Y11 boys who were having a proper fight, physically hold them apart and bellow “Stop That Now!” at the top of her voice. They stopped. She also once “accidentally” locked someone in her cupboard for a whole lesson (this idiotic child had thought that hiding in there would be a good jape).
JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:33

I find it really frustrating that my voice doesn't seem to carry even when I really try and bellow (over a lunchtime or corridor crowd... obvs not been an issue in a while).

Yet my singing voice is Quite Loud. Maybe I should try a bit of Haydn next time.....

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:34

Obvs not desirable to shout but I mean when a Y7's getting trampled in a crush or something. The Library is right by a crush point in our corridor.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 19:42

Where did you see that fripp? I can't even find a preprint.

CallmeAngelina · 15/02/2021 19:44

"The Library is right by a crush point in our corridor."

But.... schools are SAFE, aren't they?

GuyFawkesDay · 15/02/2021 19:44

It's useful.

I'm seen as "feisty" too. And a bit talkative. Ok, a lot talkative.

My boss doesn't like me, mainly because he is a misogynistic £@+! who I think wants to have a department of "little women" doing the work whilst he sits with pipe and slippers lapping up the plaudits.

Sadly, he got me to deal with and I think I may have put a spanner in the works.

CallmeAngelina · 15/02/2021 19:44

By the way, I've rarely been so relieved as when that latest thread of noble's reached 1000. Turned into a right pile-on.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/02/2021 19:47

@CallmeAngelina

"The Library is right by a crush point in our corridor."

But.... schools are SAFE, aren't they?

It doesn't happen that often ....
