You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Yet in the following weeks the data indicates that in several regions there was no subsequent rise in Covid-19-caused teacher absence.

Looks like weasel words to me.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 17:44

So , this will always be the problem :

It shows changes in patterns of prevalence but cannot tell us whether infections occurred in school or elsewhere.

chocolateisavegetable · 15/02/2021 17:45

@Piggywaspushed

The thing is no one can see this Warwick study : not sure how the press have got it tbh.

IT question :DS's broken laptop has had hard drive replaced... does this mean he has lost his Microsoft Office lifetime software??

Not an IT experts by any means, but I believe that the software will have gone - unless the people replacing the hard drive did a back up and reinstalled all the backed up software onto the new hard drive. However, I don't think it affects his licence, so if he can reinstall the software from somewhere else, he is still covered by the licence.

Someone who is more IT literate is very welcome to correct me if I'm wrong!

I think that language use on this board is very conservative in general. I post on a politics board that I've been on since 1997. We all 'know' each other really well (although I've not met them), and the language is properly rock bottom. Working on a landfill site/waste management site for a lot of years didn't help my language either.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 17:47

Yes, I just am not sure how to reinstall. Who actually keeps those scratch card things??

You can't really have a proper chat with the PC World people about this atm.

@JanFebAnyMonth

Yes I think he's sounding quite cautious.

Did you just hearing him trying to say that drug name?!

I thought he sounded cautious too.
RandomGrammarPun · 15/02/2021 17:55

I think Boris has sounded more cautious for about a week than almost any one in public life or the media. Interesting.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 15/02/2021 17:58

@Piggywaspushed

In some good news , DH has confirmed he is on the list for vaccine as Group 6. Charming receptionist said 'but not this week, though' like he should be grateful.
Wayhay!! At least he's on the list. Don't think DH is 😡 even though he's had a triple bypass and stents and had to pack in work. 🤞🏻 that he gets it soon.
Monkeytennis97 · 15/02/2021 18:08

Oh , I do hope your DH gets sorted pussycat. I think they have to do DH because his heart condition is congenital.

RandomGrammarPun · 15/02/2021 18:19

That's amazing, Monkey Star

RigaBalsam · 15/02/2021 18:19

Brilliant news Monkey 😄😄

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 18:22

Oh, and sorry, meant to say fab news monkey !

noblegiraffe · 15/02/2021 18:23

women lack confidence when talking
women are more polite
women are less likely to disagree

I've got a male friend that I sometimes debate politics etc with, and he takes issue with how I do it, particularly that I state my opinions with confidence and don't couch things in terms of 'I think that....' He thinks I should be more conciliatory.

Which is probably why I run into trouble on here too.

RandomGrammarPun · 15/02/2021 18:26

I literally give no shits if male colleagues, friends or acquaintances think I should adopt a more conciliatory approach in conversation or debate. I bow to no-one based on their sex. If their argument is interesting or intelligent, I'll listen. If not, they can bore off.

Monkeytennis97 · 15/02/2021 18:29

Thanks allSmile been smiling all daySmile

WarriorN · 15/02/2021 18:35

Hello, I've fallen off the threads a bit.

Popping in again and Wow! What fabulous news Monkey!*

I hope all are ok and enjoying a good break.

So is/was DH but he's had surgery, so who knows?

Monkey I am so pleased for you, keep on smiling Smile

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 18:42

I massively need training with this. I have a reputation (with some people) for being quite 'difficult' at school but literally start every email 'sorry to bother you' or 'I just wanted to ask if' and pepper everything with 'silly me!' type exclamation marks.

My friend tells me off for this : and, yet, I am still seen as 'abrasive'!!
