You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@RandomGrammarPun

Is it bad if I reveal I don't know who Chris Hemsworth is or what he looks like? I have heard of his name. Just checked his IMDB and never seen a single one of his films, so that makes sense.

Ophelia - you really do need to listen to the docs and your body. More time needed for a decent recovery for you, missus Flowers

Snap. Not a scooby who he is.
RandomGrammarPun · 15/02/2021 08:57

@OpheliasCrayon

Sorry that was quite the pity post!
Do not apologise.

It's okay to feel sorry for yourself when it's deserved. I have a number of friends abd family with severe IBD and I know just how debilitating and frustrating it is.

It sounds like you've made the best start you could - health aside - in your school, so that's a positive.

CarrieBlue · 15/02/2021 09:01

Snap. Not a scooby who he is.

Nope, me either. I only know who Tom Hardy is because he was in Wallander with Kenneth Branagh Grin

RigaBalsam · 15/02/2021 09:02

Morning all

Looks luke the papers are all going for the 8th all in date. It is weird how it went from no Uk holidays to Easter breaks possible in a matter if days. Whatever sells though.

I am going back to work Monday too. Feel mixed about it.

Ooh, I do like Chris Hemsworth!! I think some of you need to watch Thor this week!

I will try to avoid some of the quite nasty comments all over the place on schools this week, I think. There are still people who despite the return to school guidance saying masks are not to be worn in schools, will twist that to say all children in all schools near them wear masks (how could anyone see in the classroom to know this?) so the guidance didn’t have to be followed anyway. Or others disputing how useful masks are anyway?! They are compulsory inside in most places, but clearly they don’t do much and schools are wrong to want them. Other vocal people claiming to be teachers have some very odd ideas as well.

Am still cross about WFH EPs having jabs-which isn’t helping my mood. Looks like I’m not due to have mine until Autumn-but sure it’ll be fine to be in school every day till then.

Have a good half term, everyone-I might rewatch Thor!!

OpheliasCrayon · 15/02/2021 09:16

@RandomGrammarPun thank you for being kind. I am very much of the ... Just deal with it and carry on mentality and then take things to heart when I'm not able to do that. I guess because I have so many issues, I feel that I have to make up for it by going above and beyond all of the time in a way. Although, if I wasn't unwell I would still want to do my best at work so maybe it isn't that.

Yes I'm glad I did the observation when I did. My HoD was leaving it up to me, what with it being lockdown and whatnot, she said it needed doing this term but I could invite her to whatever lesson I fancied. I'd planned the one I went for already because as is the way in SEN we often so the same thing quite a few times, so I'd already done it once and then thought of the ways I needed to improve my resources / set up and had already started prepping them etc so I thought that would be a good lesson to go for. I think I'd be feeling much more stressed if I hadn't had done it yet as obviously it feels better knowing that school are pleased with everything I'm doing, rather than me lying here wondering if they like me at all lol!

My friend and I are currently re-watching all the avengers films on Disney+ - film night is the highlight of our week 😂

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 10:09

I haven't seen any of Chris H's films. I am sad to admit I know him from Home and Away...

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2021 10:11

Hottub fandango Grin was at Warner Bros Studios. Not the Harry Potter bit. The bit through a secret door with a corridor and meeting rooms, a canteen. And hot tubs.

noblegiraffe · 15/02/2021 10:20

How can you not know who Chris Hemsworth is? I’m leaving this thread in disgust. To get some pictures.

Just had a quick reread of the OP - you know, the objectives of, and qualifications required of posters entering into, this series of threads?

Just sayin' Wink

(Having said that, I was pretty un-Hemsworth aware, so Googled last night. Phwoar!!!)

Am pretty sure I have never typed phwoar before.....

GuyFawkesDay · 15/02/2021 10:28

You can all leave Chris H right there, I saw him first and he's mine 😉🤣🤣

Oof. Not only is he drop dead, funny and smart but he's a proper hands on normal daddy too swoon

Feel bloody awful today. The antidepressants are giving me side effects I do not like. Jaw clenching, headache and sickness which is also giving me tummy ache where my gallbladder was. Yuck.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/02/2021 10:30

Is he the one in that sillyRebel Wilson film about chickflicks? Maybe Isn't it Romantic?

His brother is married to Miley Cyrus?

MrsHamlet · 15/02/2021 10:30

But does Chris have the sexy boots???

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 15/02/2021 10:35

Someone save me from myself please! I need tying to a chair or something to keep me in here and not venture OUT THERE again...

I'm sorry I don't have time to catch up fully but - Ophelia I hope you're doing better Flowers it must be horrible not to be able to eat or drink.
Monkeytennis - so happy for you and your ds! And I also have no idea who Chris is Biscuit

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 15/02/2021 10:35

Sorry - was supposed to be Grin

Staffdontblowitnow · 15/02/2021 10:37

I prefer him in his Thor gear 😁

Guy - I started sertraline last march lockdown. The side effects wore off within a week, but I still get a bit if jaw clenching. Flowers

Monkeytennis97 · 15/02/2021 11:14

@GuyFawkesDay I get the jaw clenching too as well as nausea (day 18 here still have intermittent nausea) and sweating hands and feet and anxiety still high (joint aches too- lovely!). Hoping it will start lessening soon x

Monkeytennis97 · 15/02/2021 11:14

Sorry I've skipped a load of posts. Riga have you used your return to secure any accommodations? Don't rush back without anything changed.
TableSetting · 15/02/2021 11:18

Head of OFQUAL on Radio 5 now in case anyone wants to listen.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/02/2021 11:20

Sorry if that was a bit lecturing but seriously hit pause and think things through about why you ended up off and whether any of that has changed and have a conversation with doc about what you need as if you do go back on Monday he can write what you need for a good return on your fitness note.

As we know repeated absences get judged more harshly than one appropriate length absence and successful return.

You are in a stronger position to improve work situation before going back. Once back they won't listen or care as cynical as that sounds.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 15/02/2021 11:30

Start of Feb 22nd week for announcement from ofqual.
