You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Mistress yes we've all had it now. Fortunately ok so far thanks, and much better for not having to go for a freezing bike ride.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 16:57

When I see your name, I think of the Oliver Jeffers book :)
We have gin and snacks and we've switched the copier off at the wall whilst we recover. How're you?

My name? I LOVE him!
noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 16:58

ophelia I think I saw on another thread you’d been in hospital? Hope you are ok.

I am indeed. Into week three of getting absolutely bloody nowhere....
noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 17:03

Oh no! That’s awful Flowers

What happened?

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 17:03

I currently have a completely non functioning and exceptionally painful digestive tract.....

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 17:04

Which to be fair I've had for 15 years but it's never been quite this epically shagged

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 17:12

How are you feeling? What do the docs think?

Mistressiggi · 13/02/2021 17:14

"Epically shagged"
Sorry Ophelia, hope you pick up soon that sounds rotten. But I did have a laugh at your turn of phrase (have just binge-watched Bridgerton so have such things on my mind Wink)

Monkeytennis97 · 13/02/2021 17:14

@OpheliasCrayon ThanksThanks hope you are ok - I thought I hadn't seen you on here.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 17:17

Ouch OpheliasCrayon. Hope they manage to fix that for you soon.

Beachhuts90 · 13/02/2021 17:22

That sounds terrible @OpheliasCrayon, I hope you feel better very soon. Flowers

TheHoneyBadger · 13/02/2021 17:22

Oh no Ophelia. I only have half of my colon left. I'm very sympathetic around digestive issues. The existence and functioning of the digestive system is one of those things you take for granted until you have issues.

I haven't watched it lol but I'm glad to amuse. It felt vaguely more gentile that completely fucked. But I think that's more accurate if I'm honest. Doctors are alternating between having a great plan and not having a clue. It's inflammatory bowel disease which I've had for ages it's just this flare is particularly brutal. 2 weeks in and all I've gone is backwards

Feeling guilty I've missed weeks of work especially since I started there not to long ago but they've been extremely understanding (more so than my previous school)... We had snow days this week anyway so I still set the work on dojo even though I was technically off and I've popped into the odd google meet....

Oh dear! Yes they're an absolute bitch... If I come out of this with my colon in tact I'll be amazed tbh
OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 17:27

Anyone got any extremely light hearted (and weirdly I wouldn't say no to education themed stuff but other things are ok ) netflix / iplayer or more 4? I don't have Amazon.

I've literally done nothing for 2+ weeks as I've felt so awful. I still feel awful but my sleep is really suffering now and I feel something in the wee hours would work out ok

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 17:35

Death in Paradise or QI are my go to lighthearted things on Netflix. I'm not sure they count as extremely light hearted though

TheHoneyBadger · 13/02/2021 17:36

Yes mine nearly killed me literally by twisting and herniating bizarrely. On the plus side I will never have appendicitis because that sits on the end of the caecum and ascending colon and got the chop with the rest.

Does not functioning mean in danger of becoming ischemic? The ischemic factor is how I came to lose as much of mine as I did. Hope they're taking care of you and glad to hear school are being understanding. Luckily for me our business manager has ulcerative colitis and so was understanding about how profoundly issues with the bowels affect life

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 17:37

I've heard of death in paradise I'll have a look.

The first time this ever flared id just done my PGCE and literally sat in hospital watching the Teachers DVDs that my husband (then bf) had got me from the local library on a laptop!

I don't have an appendix anyway! I randomly lost that when my DD1 was 6 months old.

There is a degree of it being blocked but they have seen that there is enough of a gap for liquids to get through although I'm now on the second lot of IV steroids after it all coming back again once I'd got to the oral ones.

I have arthritis as well, which is vile and it's messing with my blood pressure and heart rate something absolutely rotten

GuyFawkesDay · 13/02/2021 17:51

@OpheliasCrayon try detectorists and ghosts. Both comedies but very subtly and British: wry, and witty.

Superstore is lovely. American comedy about a large store. Nice gentle comedy. Kim’s Convenience. About a Canadian Korean family who run a corner shop.
OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 17:54

Detectorists I've seen but not ghosts. If they're in rh same vein I will check ghosts out as the other was great. In fact sod it yeah I could watch it again it's so chill.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 17:56

It's the crayon bit. I got into Downton very late and enjoyed that.
