You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Hi trailrunner

TheHoneyBadger · 13/02/2021 13:24

Morning all (I just woke up!).

You're not the only one noble. I dreamt that a member of slt said something really rude and undermining to me in a corridor full of kids and when I picked him up on it he gave me the middle finger. I was then awake for a while stressing about it and the fact I couldn't leave because I didn't have a job to go to before waking up enough to go duh that was just a dream and relax and go back to sleep.

Fit bit says I've had over 13 hours sleep!

Scottish SAGE call for 2m distancing in schoolool and on buses for secondary students from 22nd, John Swinney sounds welcoming about the guidelines. No mention of how though!

GuyFawkesDay · 13/02/2021 13:36

I think they're mentioning a very phased return?

God only knows what these people think an actual school is like!!

Hello @Tailrunner

I've done my usual thing in holidays of not sleeping well first night (thanks for the insomnia and jaw ache, sertraline!) but have woken up full of energy so have cleaned the kitchen and wiped all the skirting boards and doors downstairs in a spring cleaning frenzy.

This afternoon will be tea and my Kindle.

Maybe it’ll be like that spell in Harry Potter where they made the tents massive on the inside to fill them all in, when the Weasleys all took Harry to the Quiddich World Cup!
Mistressiggi · 13/02/2021 13:41

From the 22nd a max of 5-8% of the secondary school is allowed to return to do essential course work. I'm picturing a science class in to do experiments or an HE assessment. Later many will need to do timed essays to replace the exams. For the next four weeks I'd be surprised if any significant numbers of secondary are in.
I'm not expecting to be in myself, but who knows?
Coming to the end of my half term while you start yours - I'm always out of step!

HarrietDVane · 13/02/2021 13:43

Welcome @Tailrunner - make yourself at home!

I was out cold for ten hours, which is almost unheard of for me. So far I have done virtually nothing, despite the overwhelming need to spring clean my festering pit of a house. I think it will have to wait.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 13:44

Ha ha - possibly more like in Deathly Hallows, where the Harry/Ron/Hermione bubble is constantly seeking to evade the Death Eaters?? 📚

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 13:45

Oh of course mistress, so they're not talking about when schools fully reopen then.

...though I prefer the Harry Potter idea Smile

DriveInSaturday · 13/02/2021 14:22

Congratulations on making it to the holidays everyone.

Monkey great news that you can see DS again.

Guy good luck with the meds.

Jan hope things work out.

DS is allowed out of self-isolation for the first time today. It is literally freezing, but the promise of a bike ride today has kept him going for two weeks. Normally I'd go, but it's my turn to have Covid so DH had to do it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/02/2021 14:27

I know 6 teachers now who have covid for half term. Small numbers of kids in bubbles not working either.

WhenSheWasBad · 13/02/2021 14:45

Hi tailrunner nice to have a fellow scientist. Also very glad it is half term. Will have to spend some of it prepping for return to home learning. But at least I’m not juggling a full timetable of live lessons plus my own kids.

Mistressiggi · 13/02/2021 15:01

Driveinsaturday I hope you are ok. Is that all three of you had it now?

SmileEachDay · 13/02/2021 15:15

Hi everyone!

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 15:57

Mmmmmm.... gin and biscuits whilst watching rugby. Perfect.

sherrystrull · 13/02/2021 16:17

Hello @Tailrunner! Welcome!

Happy half term everyone! I've felt strangely bereft today without my usual mound of work. I've been trying so hard over the last few weeks to do extra so I barely have any to do over half term and now I've achieved that, there's nothing to do! I might make a crumble!

chocolateisavegetable · 13/02/2021 16:20

Welcome tail

Rule Shock Lucky schools are safe eh? Hmm

MrsH stop hogging the biscuits

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 16:24

Is that the new variant Rule?

And why are there biscuit crumbs all over the floor? Looks like someone has been throwing them around. 😑

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 16:30

Sorry noble - when the knee went scrunch I accidentally threw the biscuit tin in the air

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/02/2021 16:32

I’m not too worried about the biscuits being thrown around. But please be careful of wasting the gin.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 16:45

I was wondering if I could use my Karcher to suck up the gin not into my mouth and whether it would smell of alcohol forever after?

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 16:48

I would never waste gin!!!

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 16:53

Hi all I don't know if I'm remembered round these parts? If so how are we all?
