You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Lowering the tone...Friday Night Dinner

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 18:04

I hope no one sees the gin and biscuits in here.

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 18:10

@MrsHamlet

I mean like there was a point I hoped that couldn't be real. And then when I realised she'd emailed the fucking school...oh my God
JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 18:11

Eh??

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/02/2021 18:12

I also love death in paradise but also loads of shit like bad moms on Netflix!

Have you watched dead to me? And You? And What If? Those are all brilliant.

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 18:12

Go back and read from the start though it is a BEAUTY

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 18:13

Shhhhh: We'll get into trouble if we talk about it in here.

Put the chairs away quietly and creep out.

DH and I have started and abandoned so many series recently but, I clicked on one rather randomly while he was playing a game and he got sucked in too, so much that we set aside the final two episodes for a proper Friday night viewing.

The Circle US. It's an American spin-off of a UK reality TV show on Netflix about contestants who are in separate flats with nothing to do and can only communicate via a text messaging system (bit like the Staffroom!). They can either be themselves or put up photos of someone much hotter, or even the opposite sex. They're competing to be the last contestant standing, and to stay in they have to be popular with the other contestants.

It was fast-paced, a few twists, genuinely engaging and the contestants were just.....nice and funny. Unlike a lot of other reality TV. Really enjoyed it.

Oh that sounds good!!! I will check that out

I love Death in Paradise, I watch it with my daughter. With a lot of rewinding as she tends to chat all over it.
Normally takes us 1 1/2 hours to get though one episode Hmm

CallmeAngelina · 13/02/2021 18:35

I can highly recommend Ghosts. If for no other reason than Matthew Baynton. Blush

namechangedyetagain · 13/02/2021 18:36

Hope everyone is ok . Ive spent the first day of half term fretting about the amount of work i have to do this week, but not fretting enough it seems to put the biscuits down, get off my considerable arse and actually start working. Maybe tomorrow.....

I have seen a job advertised for a local ish school. Not where I'm placed (where I really want to work) but thought it would do no harm to start looking through the application form to see what they require. So I may ask some daft questions this week if that's ok. I don't know that I want to waste their time by actually applying and I don't want to piss off my placement school but I think I need to start thinking about these things .

What is the job role?
Saucery · 13/02/2021 18:56

The TV series of What We Do In The Shadows is fantastic.
I’m not averse to putting on the early series of Horrible Histories when I’m bored, either.
Schitt’s Creek was a pleasant surprise, bit stilted for the first couple of episodes until you ‘get’ the vibe then it’s a sheer delight.

eitak22 · 13/02/2021 19:01

My go to easy watching is Brooklyn 99/friends. Death in paradise is brill though.

GuyFawkesDay · 13/02/2021 19:14

What we do in the shadows TV series I resisted as I loved the film but it's brilliant. Definitely recommend.

Ghosts I love. Matt Baynton is v talented.

You’ll never piss off your placement school-everyone knows you need to do anything you can to get a job! Good luck with it Smile
HarrietDVane · 13/02/2021 19:39

Ouch @OpheliasCrayon! That sounds really painful. Hope you are more comfortable soon.

chocolateisavegetable · 13/02/2021 19:42

Everyone stand up please. Teachers are NOT allowed chairs.

Ophelia hi there - we probably haven't met as I haven't been here long. So sorry to hear about your health problems.

namechanged look at it a different way - it would show your placement school that you are a forward-thinker and that you are serious about your teaching career.

MrsHamlet · 13/02/2021 19:53

choc is right about this: it would show your placement school that you are a forward-thinker and that you are serious about your teaching career.

It's the sort of thing that would put the wind right up my head and have him calling you in to offer you the job!

noblegiraffe · 13/02/2021 19:57

Yeah we’ve moved forward interview dates when we’ve heard trainees are looking at other schools in order to bag them first!

Frlrlrubert · 13/02/2021 20:20

Namedchanged

The HT offered our NQT her job when she requested a day off from placement last year to go to an interview. Sometimes you’ve got to make them think.

JanFebAnyMonth · 13/02/2021 20:21

Surely it was at best ill-judged by those teachers to post the pic of their "end of term party" on SM? Certainly without clear explanation that they were still SDing?
