You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Yes herc I think he's been head since September, but may have been acting head for a bit before that. Maths teacher in the North.

chocolateisavegetable · 10/02/2021 19:09

Oh I hear you noble Buying long sleeved tops is my biggest nightmare (clothes-wise). I have yet to try the LTS website since they were taken over - not many positive reviews from what I've seen.

DollyMixtureLulus · 10/02/2021 19:10

I'm actually sitting here waiting for my fake tan to dry because we had a full staff Teams meeting and I looked grey Shock

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 19:11

goodness me, Charles Walker , Tory MP, on C4 just now. What an absolute arsehole.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/02/2021 19:13

Clothes buying is generally a terrible experience me too. I'm too tall for most of the regular length clothes, but not tall enough for the "tall" section. I end up wearing tunics because other tops don't meet my trousers when I raise my arms (which I do, to write on the board). My weight doesn't help either, as I'm not the right shape for most clothes. So I hate it. And avoid shopping, so I always look a bit scruffy.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 10/02/2021 19:15

Oh gosh MrsAD this means there is two of them about!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/02/2021 19:17

Clothes buying also a nightmare for me. I have 2 inches between my underboob line and waist line.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/02/2021 19:30

Weirdly I imagined you as shorter, rule, probably that dreadful primary stereotyping referred to by somebody earlier!

Just thinking, our SLT is 3/5 male. 2 of the men are v tall, one markedly so, the third is teeny. He also was once in a briefly famous children's performance group, which is rather amusing....

GravityFalls · 10/02/2021 19:34

I’m 5 foot 4 and have had a weirdly large amount of people disbelieve this. They always think I’m taller than them, when they’re the same height as me. I have to stand next to them to prove it. I just give off an aura of being tall, apparently. It’s happened so often that it must be a Thing!

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 19:41

I have that same thing gravity !

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 19:42

Perhaps you have gravitas. Grin

Timeturnerplease · 10/02/2021 19:44

Yes @RuleWithAWoodenFoot. It doesn’t matter what I wear, I always look wide, even when I was a size 8, just due to the short factor.

Pregnancy is a nightmare, the poor baby has nowhere to grow so the acid reflux starts at about week 14 🤦🏻‍♀️

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 10/02/2021 19:49

I am a shorty. The trousers in the petite sections are always too long. Maybe we can pair up? Shorties with tallies? I will happily donate the ends of my trouser legs and sleeves to those in need.

Just. So. Tired...

Frlrlrubert · 10/02/2021 19:51

I think the averages will be out of date soon, I'm 5'6 and I'd say a good 70% of year 10 and 11 girls are taller than me.

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 20:07

They probably will be but all this time at home will obviously stunt their growth. I blame the teachers.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/02/2021 20:21

Oh ha ha, such fun in here! (Courtesy of Miranda)

I'm blaming you all for the snow
StartWhereYouStand · 10/02/2021 20:24

All the talk about clothes has made me realise I will have to start thinking about what to wear to school again ..... feels like ages since that was a daily decision!!

Didn't wear any of my summer work stuff last year and am seriously worried it might not fit due to lockdown boredom eating.

Also think I need to restart some minimal make up - seeing me without the zoom touch up filter will prob scare the students!!

RandomGrammarPun · 10/02/2021 20:28

We're in school 50% of the time, so no getting used to stretchy clothes here. I am used to wearing slippers the other 50% of the time, though, and really wishing that could be a normal part of the winter classroom attire (maybe it is in some primaries?)

DollyMixtureLulus · 10/02/2021 20:36

maybe it is in some primaries?

It was in my last school, when we got new carpets and the Head was tyrannical about keeping them clean. It lasted until the first fire drill Shock

cornercupboard · 10/02/2021 20:59

Shuffling in and hitting my head on the door, another tall one here, I'm 6 foot and skinny. Don't own or wear make up, dresses, skirts or heels, look like back end of bus but don't care. Top child comment I've ever had - "Mrs CornerCupboard, are you a man or a lady?" Grin

Frlrlrubert · 10/02/2021 21:09

In a previous life I worked in a semi-barrier facility. You had to get changed (all except underwear) to go in and out. Whenever we had a fire drill we all had to disinfect the 'outside' off our 'inside' work shoes (and get changed again) when we came back.

And they always did them in winter so we'd be outside in our cotton jumpsuits when all the other departments could grab a coat.

RandomGrammarPun · 10/02/2021 21:09

Another 5ft 7er who feels distinctly short these days (and sometimes has to buy short trouser length in some shops Shock. Arm lengths are always still too short, though.)

Frlrlrubert · 10/02/2021 21:11

Sleeves are too short on me and I am practically a T-Rex. I don't know whose arms sleeves are made for.
