You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@MrsHamlet

I'm not tall then :) I'm definitely taller all but one of the female staff. We have a lot of teeny tiny men. And teeny tiny women all highly promoted....
What a shame - I was planning to hand out gold stars, house points and "star of the week" certificates to all the tallies.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 10/02/2021 18:16

I am V short. 5 foot 1 first thing in the morning.

Appuskidu · 10/02/2021 18:21

I had you down as being teeny tiny in my head, @noblegiraffe -I have no idea why I thought that when you have a giraffe in your username?!

MrsHamlet · 10/02/2021 18:23

The shorties don't need them choc - they have teeny timetables and the ear of the head.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/02/2021 18:25

@Appuskidu was it because she said she'd probably be really quiet if we all met up as a crowd? (Stereotyping, obviously...)

I don't qualify by your measure chocolate, am only about 5' 8" (slinks off to the Unremarkable corner)

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/02/2021 18:26

I'm about average height, although that makes me taller than all of the female staff in my department. I'm only 5'7" but we do seem to have a lot of short women in my school, 2 maths teachers are shorter than 5'.

We have quite a few short men, only one of them is overly promoted. Our SLT are mostly tall men, with one petite feminine woman who simpers at the other SLT but terrifies the kids.

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 18:29

Ahem. Average height in England is 5ft 4. If you are 5ft 8, you are tall!!

I am short. I definitely do not have the ear of the head. noble doesn't believe I am short.

MrsHamlet · 10/02/2021 18:32

I think, Piggy, that you also might have to simper to get his ear.
I don't think anyone in here is a simperer.

Piggywaspushed · 10/02/2021 18:34

Yes, maybe. Wee Scottish women do not simper. See also Nicola Sturgeon.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/02/2021 18:39

I'm 5'7 at least 3 inches taller than average MsAD.

Rule I like the sound of your MIL - invite me to parties and supply plenty of alcohol and I'll keep her out of your hair.

I wonder how many woman are at home in lockdown in skinny jeans, heels and a full face of make-up that they wear for themselves - that was going to be my favourite post as I caught up but then I read Mrs H's, The shorties don't need them choc - they have teeny timetables and the ear of the head and it won out Smile

I'm so knackered for no good reason. Managed to do a powerpoint and a worksheet for a recorded lesson today in between lessons and emails but lack the energy to actually record it. Still the hard bit is done. Most of my students are onto the 'fun' lesson that HOD has come up with for the last lesson of term and literally my comments are either, 'thanks Charlie. Have a lovely half term' or 'you were meant to go back and do the QMA that still needs doing instead this lesson as per my 99 emails and messages that you have ignored - get this done or I will need to contact home'. I should set up a comments bank to save me repeating myself over and over but I can't be arsed.

I saw a video on how to use rubrics on google classroom today (can't remember who was talking about that yesterday?) and similarly thought, nah, can't be arsed.

It's clearly time for half term.

Beachhuts90 · 10/02/2021 18:43

@namechangedyetagain

Just checking in but think I'm going for a nap shortly. I'm not the only one on my knees am I? I literally feel on the edge of crying all the time. I struggle to plan and then adapt it for online work. I have a reflection to write as well as lesson evaluations and a big assignment to start. Been in with KW children so 10 max but with 'characters'. No TA. I can feel myself getting irritated with low level disruption and tired of using beh system when they just don't care. Bloody shattered and don't even know how I'll make it to Friday Sad
More than half of ours are "characters" as well. I can't even imagine how it would be to be in with them alone all the time. Obviously they're in the normal class too but the presence of all the non characters in class in normal times has a positive effect on behaviour. So many Flowers and also Gin to you.
MrsDanvers123 · 10/02/2021 18:44

I don't have a teeny tiny timetable or the ear of the head - fuck me, something else I'm doing wrong Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 10/02/2021 18:45

Oh and:

-occasional make up (I put it on to go to school last week just because it's the first time I'd been anywhere in a week and it felt like a special ocassion)
-heels for weddings only in recent years but I used to like heeled boots for days when I needed to feel tall when I first started teaching. I would feel strangely sexual or playing dress up if I went to school in heels now for some reason
-I live in trousers and jeans but I do like dresses in the summer with flip flops - I never know what shoes to wear with them in winter.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/02/2021 18:45

Apparently Boris has said he'll "say more about schools" on Monday?

TheHoneyBadger · 10/02/2021 18:46

Of course he will. He'll announce something awful just to ruin half term for us.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/02/2021 18:49

I've forgotten the name of the delurker I wanted to say hello too dammit and I'm afraid I can't be arsed to go back through the pages but hello to the delurker who talked about their overpromoted and overly forgiven male HOD.

That may be part of the issue too - if women only apply for things they feel they will genuinely have the time and energy to do well and men don't think about it like that and just apply and wing it.

SansaSnark · 10/02/2021 18:54

I stopped shaving (legs etc) during lockdown. It's been weirdly liberating, and definitely saves money and time!

ChloeDecker · 10/02/2021 18:56

Oh you guys crack me up! Thank you for keeping me entertained this evening!

I’m 5ft7 (seems to be a few of us!) and therefore never wear heels but I do wear a dress every day to work (think Next, Dorothy Perkins, M and S office dresses etc) and love my make up!
Invested in some chunky knits last Sept to go over my dresses and some gorgeous warm black tights from M and S to cope with the Windows open!

I didn’t always wear dresses loads but since being pregnant 5 years ago, I hate tight things round my waist band!
Wearing lots of leggings etc at home and haven’t worn jeans in a long time!

noblegiraffe · 10/02/2021 18:59

I definitely do not have the ear of the head.

Can’t reach, piggy?

noble doesn't believe I am short.

Nope, rumours of your lack of height are fake news. You have an aura of tallness.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/02/2021 18:59

I've had one over promoted male hod. He was jolly, and nice, and a bit of a lad. All the kids liked him, he was a big presence in the department, he thought he dealt with behaviour really well. In reality, while we might have liked him as a person, he didn't deal with behaviour properly, he just shouted loudly. He was also really lax with paperwork and awful when I came back from mat leave, giving me the most hideous timetable I've ever seen. The 3 female hods and the male hod we've got now, were all fantastic. Hard-working, on top of things, decent communicators and strict but consistent with behaviour. All far better than that one who was over promoted. Guess which one is a head now? That's right, the over promoted one.

chocolateisavegetable · 10/02/2021 19:02

Ahem, as the founder of the Tall Ladies subcommittee, I think I'll be the judge of what is and isn't tall thank you

I'm now wishing that I was taller than the Head though.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 10/02/2021 19:03

MrsAD Has he recently become a head, if so we may know the same person!

chocolateisavegetable · 10/02/2021 19:03

I definitely do not have the ear of the head.

Can’t reach, piggy?

Grin Grin Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 10/02/2021 19:05

It's funny because none of the job adverts say wanker in the desirable column and yet.....

noblegiraffe · 10/02/2021 19:06

@Appuskidu

I had you down as being teeny tiny in my head, *@noblegiraffe* -I have no idea why I thought that when you have a giraffe in your username?!
About 5ft10 if I stand properly, so just squeezing into choc’s definition.

Clothes buying is generally a terrible experience.
