I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

I Zoom regularly with my best friend from school in the 1960s/early 70s (did O levels in 1969). She has hardly been out of the house for a year and on public transport once (to get her jab). She has seen one person indoors in that time, when the first lockdown was lifted. I on the other hand have been in close-ish contact with very many, most of them complete strangers. Weird contrast in experience.

noblegiraffe · 06/04/2021 19:49

It’s always a good phrase “I’m consulting my lawyer!”.....

Aren't some of the founders lawyers? 'I consulted myself and I'm not very happy that the government have ignored me this time even when I sent a stern letter and made a sad video.'

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/04/2021 20:04

Yes, I don’t imagine they are paying for a consultation.

Piggywaspushed · 06/04/2021 20:25

I have the opposite mother. I seem to have developed a very heightened sense of personal space and go round Sainsburys glaring and tutting at pensioners who brush past me with gay abandon.

TheHoneyBadger · 06/04/2021 20:31

Bloody mn is more down than up for me today. Good news on face coverings.

As I understand it if and when they are used they won't be vaccine passports but covid passports - so evidence of a negative test counts too and they're likely to only be for large events like concerts or sports matches. Not going to apply to the road map stage as not everyone has been offered a vaccine yet and pubs and restaurants pushed back apparently saying it would be too hard to enforce.

I was in school for hours and only managed to mark one set of essays. They were updating the wireless network and I had to move from one end of the school to the other with all my books to get access to my markbooks and student data. I've brought another set home to do here in the morning and that leaves two still at school to be done. I got lots of photocopying done in peace though so pressure is off a bit for next week.

name my advice would be don't try and pin the tail on the donkey - looking for issues where there possiblly aren't any doesn't help. Just let yourself feel it and it will hopefully pass. It could just be exhaustion - training year is tough.

Not sure that made sense - 'don't try and pin the tail on the donkey' is a short hand for something I've come to know with depression which is that it's not always about something but the brain wants a rational reason. Therefore it will drag you through every miserable you can think of to see if it's that and unsurprisingly dredging through all that doesn't help your mood. Your feeling low, so feel low, rest, watch stuff, have nice baths and just let yourself feel it. A large percentage of the time that is enough and it passes with some rest and self compassion ime.

I think I a way we can help to reassure some people - the risk isn’t actually as great as they think it is!

namechangedyetagain · 06/04/2021 21:08

Thank you @TheHoneyBadger I have felt kind of unable to do anything these last few days. I think you're right in that I just need to ride it out. I am quite tired but have an assignment due straight after Easter and so I need to crack on with that. But have no energy to do so.

I also feel meh. Have suddenly realised how frail my parents are after not seeing them in ages, mums cousin passed away yesterday and family friend in hospital. Just feels a bit shit. I need to get some positivity back as finding it hard to settle my mind.

Sorry for the whinge.

MrsHamlet · 06/04/2021 21:23

I'm meh too name - I do find that happens when I stop after a busy term. It's like I hit a wall.

noblegiraffe · 06/04/2021 21:25

I always feel a bit depressed at the start of the holidays. I think it’s because the adrenaline and stress that gets you through the term just vanishes and there are no feelings left to replace it so you end up feeling empty and meh. Plus mega tired.

noblegiraffe · 06/04/2021 21:36

If you want cheering up, the nomasksinclass hashtag is trending. Full of school kids telling Us4Them to shut up and stop speaking for them, they’re ok with wearing them.

DreamingofBrie · 06/04/2021 21:55

Neighbour who is volunteering at the local vaccination centre texted the neighbourhood WhatsApp today at 2pm saying they had a batch that expired at 2.30 and to get ourselves down there. I was busy so didn't make it, but several of the neighbours did.

I wonder when age 40+ will be called? We started on 50+ maybe a fortnight ago.

HarrietDVane · 06/04/2021 22:06

I saw that, Noble - so many young people simply telling Us4Ourselves to STFU. It's a beautiful thing! Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/04/2021 22:19

OMG Mumsnet. Do you reckon the people paying for premium get money back every time the site doesn’t work.

The best thing about logging on to twitter and seeing that hashtag trending is always that it’s full of teens telling them to get a grip. I love it.

borntobequiet · 06/04/2021 22:28

Before I retired for the first time, I used to book myself on a National Trust working holiday right at the beginning of the summer holidays. There’s nothing as good as being put in a minibus with a packed lunch and a mattock and being told to reinstate a footpath for beating the end of term blues.

Is there a hairdresser in here? Need to book an appointment

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/04/2021 11:05

Just tried posting on end of #54:
Oh it’s completely north of the border, that was one of its charms for me Smile.

No not the train guy I remember that one. One where someone was on their way to work and they walked/ran through lovely cityscape, stone steps..... the song was
“We’ve got to beat the clock before it chimes...We’ve got to do it, got to do it” accompanied by a frenetic “tick tick” beat....

noblegiraffe · 15/04/2021 11:35

On video games - gamification can have its uses, I'm fitter than I've ever been since getting an Apple Watch. Don't want to break my 'move' streak!

Concern over playing games seems to have overtaken watching TV - kids watching endless youtube (or Teen Titans tbh) isn't great, but there's terrible TV and quality TV, and there are mindless games and quality games (Candy Crush v Legend of Zelda) and with everything, moderation and quality control are key.

MrsHamlet · 15/04/2021 11:38

Should've stuck to bloody barbie - went to the park and damaged a child 😢

noblegiraffe · 15/04/2021 11:43

Oh no, MrsH, what did you do?

I took the kids for a wholesome countryside walk the other day and DS nearly took his eye out on a tree branch. Should’ve stayed indoors!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/04/2021 12:06

I went to the gym and can already 'feel' my legs. So much for walking keeping a person fit. Have walked and walked and fucking walked the last 3 and a half months, one swim and my legs hurt. Ha.

MrsHamlet · 15/04/2021 13:44

There was a gravity related incident with a swing. You probably heard the scream! I feel awful .... she sounded like I was murdering her.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/04/2021 13:47

rule that's because you've used different muscles by swimming, not that the walking hasn't done you good. It's why the experts recommend doing a variety of exercises rather than just finding one and sticking with it. Swimming is one of the best full body forms of exercise apparently. Now I just need to find a pool where they don't have swimming lessons at the only times I can make it.

I remember that one Jan. Was it a doctor/nurse on their way to the hospital? I seem to remember it being the same actor as Josie jump from balamory but I might be wrong with that.

And yes noble I love getting badges from my Fitbit. So gamification has worked well for me there Blush

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/04/2021 13:49

Oh no MrsH. Did you get a wet paper towel on it quickly? That would sort it out. (That's the limit of my first aid, it works most of the time)

MrsHamlet · 15/04/2021 13:52

I picked her up and jiggled her. Luckily there were very few people about. Her sister, in response to me saying "you're not broken. We don't need to go to hospital" said (with an 8 going on 14 eye roll) "no.... we've had quite enough of that"
Bad godmother!
