You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Appuskidu

Comedy news comment from Sky today...
Yep that sums him up.

Battered by Piers Morgan one day and sidelined by Sky another. Dead man walking

I've signed up for it too @TheHoneyBadger.

Appuskidu · 25/01/2021 20:20

I’m rather intrigued by the NEU build up!

I thought Mary Bousted said something last week about them writing a new plan for school reopening-could it just be that?

Masks
Rotas
Vaccines
?!

Also, sorry if this is late, this:

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 20:21

Darren Grimes pushing Invicta saying it’s a lesson to teaching unions pushing to delay the re-opening of schools.

Not entirely clear what the message is. If schools stay shut we will set up a small scale tutoring agency and make some money?

Which, despite being horribly sad, also to me indicates that an awful lot of teaching staff have contracted Covid. And many will have had substantial time off sick if not had long Covid.

MrsHamlet · 25/01/2021 20:25

I'd forgotten about the parent army! I was hoping they'd come and sort my "to be filed" pile.

Staffdontblowitnow · 25/01/2021 20:26

@JanuaryChill

It's interesting to see where they're higher than normal rates too.

Anyone know what the big reveal might be here?

Wow! Who are all these people over 64?

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 20:34

Who is Darren Grimes???

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 20:42

So why did the ONS cut off at 64? Why ‘working age’ and not actually ‘in work’?

Table 10 details an awful lot more deaths of nurses and other occupations as well as teachers.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 20:42

That exclusion of those over 64 and working is scandalous ...HUGE numbers of shopkeepers over 64 dies and a ridiculously large number of mechanical engineers and nurses. The number of teachers who died is quite stark.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 20:47

@Piggywaspushed

Who is Darren Grimes???
A gobshite.

You may remember the political campaign funding scandal during Brexit when Vote Leave was breaking spending rules by farming out campaigning to supposedly independent groups?

Darren Grimes was the leader of BeLeave, the ‘youths for Brexit’ group that got dropped in it.

So more Us4Them and Brexit links.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 20:50

Ah. I don't really follow the Brexit mob...

FrippEnos · 25/01/2021 20:56

I suspect that he is less Brexit and more follow the money.

Iamthemilitanttendency · 25/01/2021 20:59

OK, who's been shopping at Amazon then?

Shame on you.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 21:05

Not surprised there’s a crossover between Brexit and lockdown scepticism.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 21:06

Darren Grimes should be a nobody. He's one of those wheeled on with no life or subject experience, to discuss a variety of things for balance on the BBC. He's lightweight, but dangerous. He had to delete Trump tweets when the capitol stuff was going on. Which sums it up.

borntobequiet · 25/01/2021 21:21

Wow! Who are all these people over 64?

People like me, perhaps? Retired from secondary, love teaching, part-time in FE, age 67.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 25/01/2021 21:26

In my school we've got a surprising number of TAs who were teachers, retired, got bored, and came back as TAs.

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 21:31

There are many older Supply teachers. Many are retired and working to add to pension or to keep teaching.

Appuskidu · 25/01/2021 21:33

We’ve got quite a few TAs over 64.
Where is the data for other schools staff? Who just teachers? Why just under 63?!

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 21:34

Teaching assistants are on there.

ValancyRedfern · 25/01/2021 22:15

My Head mentioned this morning that a Union is putting forward a plan to get all school staff vaccinated in a very short space of time. Maybe the announcement is to do with that?
