You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

That’s exactly what ai think. I’m fairly sure they are having all teachers vaccinated over half term. Can’t imagine what else it will be. Doesn’t really solve the problem entirely. Children still transmit the virus to each other and take it home. Teachers might be vaccinated but the parents won’t be. That said, it’s a good thing if staff are to be vaccinated. I’m just not convinced it’s going to miraculously make schools safe.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 22:29

Is Gav actually the poor man's Tom Riddle? (Just rewatching HP & Philosopher's Stone with DS!)

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 22:31

It certainly wouldn't solve the public health issue.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 22:32

No, the group who came up with a mass vaccination plan at the weekend were the Headmasters and Mistresses (indies) Plus some MAT heads.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 22:33

Can we work with Byline Times on this??!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 22:39

Byline Times going with Invicta now too.

Private Eye does all this stuff. They should shout loads louder. I read the Invicta stuff in there last week.

My dad, Daily Mail reader, is banging on about getting school staff vaccinated over half term.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 22:41

Oh god if they have got a plan to vaccinate all teachers then that is followed by ‘now schools can go back with no mitigation measures’, like U4T have been banging on about.

And then we get the ‘teachers are booting the elderly out of the way to get vaccines they don’t need because they’re not dying, why are they so special’ abuse.

If it’s the NEU then they’d be shit chess players.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 22:42

The infection rates in secondary school kids (and to a lesser extent primary) should be the key focus. Why is it not?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/01/2021 22:44

Vaccinating us won't stop it spreading though. Just stops us getting seriously ill.

I tried explaining this to my (vaccinated) parents who now think life will be normal in a couple of weeks.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 22:45

That’s not clear, Herc, that’s the worst interpretation of the clinical trial data (and heavily peddled by the Great Barrington lot)

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 22:48

Phew! I'm glad you said that, noble. Exactly what I was thinking but felt ... unkind to the NEU or something.

Yes. It would be ... an interesting thing to propose.

I think it's unlikely, though. For a start, there's a wrangle about obtaining vaccine at the moment, isn't there? A proposal like that would require a massive extra quantity of vaccine.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 25/01/2021 22:50

I meant it won't stop the kids spreading it as they definitely won't have been vaccinated. Surely that's the main problem with schools reopening even if the staff have all been vaccinated?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 22:53

Yes, of course thats the plan. Dad said that too. Vaccinate you all, then back after half term. I pointed out the whole 1 dose thing, but I'm wrong on that one. Apparently.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 22:56

Gosh it's fun on the thread about U4T....

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 22:56

Might help with primary schools initially? More need for childcare, less chance of staff being off and taking away said childcare? Erm, dunno.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/01/2021 22:57

@thecatfromjapan

It certainly wouldn't solve the public health issue.
Quite. Can you imagine the outrage there's going to be when all teachers are partially vaccinated over HT and schools are still shut until Easter.

Much less of a Brexit crossover than you'd think IME noble. Obviously you have people like Grimes and Desmond Swayne, Esther McVey etc whose position is exactly what you'd expect it to be. But 'Brexiters' are a pretty broad bunch. I'd guess there's a difference might be between hard and soft brexiters, but there's a few remainer lockdown sceptics around too.

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 22:59

@JanuaryChill

Gosh it's fun on the thread about U4T....
Where's that?
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 23:00

Steve Baker is awful all round. I hate that these cretins have any sort of say inmphow my life runs - every person I know in real life is better than them in every way, how come he has ended up with influence. Revolting individual.

@JanuaryChill

Gosh it's fun on the thread about U4T....
I did wonder if I'd overstepped the line by being very direct about calling out the lies about NEU. But I'm thinking if Trump and Johnson are going to teach us anything it's that not calling out lies for what they are doesn't get us anywhere. There's a big difference between things that can be a difference of opinion and claims that are just straight out untrue.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 23:04

They've put the call out now, just leave it. Pointless.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/01/2021 23:05

What's the betting that the 17 Tory MP's correlates very nicely with the more extreme lockdown sceptic section of the Tory Party?

Or that the extreme lockdown sceptic section were perhaps much more involved in the setting up of UfT than we know about at the moment.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 23:07

Not at all @RafaIsTheKingOfClay .

Gosh I don't remember seeing that June NEU plan, is that where Boris got the idea of the great summer catch up from? (Ok which never actually happened...)

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 23:13

On the plus side - many people will only read the OP of that thread - and it's a very good OP.
