You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Not yet. I follow them on twitter but that’s about it. Apparently they have byline TV too on youtube.

It might just be me, but if I had Esther McVey supporting my campaign I’d keep quiet about it. I assume we don’t need a website to tell us whether she’s a prick or not.

I have a friend refurbing laptops for a local school. He's working with donations from a church but as you say it shouldn't take people like that.

That Guardian article is spot on, piggy. A government that re-opens schools while begging people to stay at home would be undermining its own messaging.

Which is why the lockdown sceptics are all over it.

Gav is such a muppet-I’m desperately hoping his days really are numbered. Though, my head reckons he’ll be replaced with Priti Patel, which would be bloody hideous!

Interesting article about other countries who have mask-wearing in classrooms! The Fail doesn’t usually mention such things!

Do you think the NEU has any means of adding pressure to calls for the government to ensure more people work from home/businesses and employees are supported in closing?

One of the things members are concerned about is the expansion of those needing places in schools.

That and nurseries being open.

Having said that, I don't know what recourse there is to do anything about that.

(Yes, I'm still mystified as to what the NEU announcement might be ...)

Invicta gets a splash in the paper advertising their free online lessons (which aren’t free) and includes a lie about unions not allowing online lessons, and turns out to be run by a couple of Tories and is a very small outfit running a very poor service (classes of 250) while begging for government funding.

Makes me mad.

This is so cynical.

Mental health services have been underfunded for years - youth mental health even more so.

It's breaking now.

Teachers aren't mental health experts.

Young people deserve better than for teachers/school to be used as a sticking plaster.

Plus - way back last year, unions were asking for schools to open safely. Which didn't happen. And there are no signs of it happening.

Schools aren't safe.

That explains the glowing endorsements for something so small-scale and clearly shit. It’s all a front for a political agenda.

I've signed up for the neu announcement. Would be great to be reminded about it tomorrow if anyone else is going. I have a brain like a sieve at the minute.
