You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Lol at the #reopenschools hashtag that’s trending on twitter. Looking at the top tweets for that I don’t think it’s going the way U4T wanted. 😂

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 17:37

Sorry, meant male!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/01/2021 17:43

@Piggywaspushed

Not to be too ghoulish but it does look like deaths of female secondary teachers are quite a lot above average, which is not especially true of males, and not necessarily seen in other occupations.
That sort of makes sense. IIRC non-covid deaths in men are down. Whereas they aren’t upon women, or at least not as much. So an increase in covid deaths among men and women would probably raise the deaths further above average all cause rate in women than for men, where more of those deaths are replacing deaths that would have happened but haven’t.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/01/2021 17:44

I’ll take that whole post back then.

RigaBalsam · 25/01/2021 17:56

There were no school questions at the daily briefing which was not predicted by Sam Coates.

JanuaryChill · 25/01/2021 17:59

It's interesting to see where they're higher than normal rates too.

Anyone know what the big reveal might be here?

Yes, I thought that - just from the BBC article. Not much below the little league table they had going, which WAS ghoulish.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 18:04

BBC News leading with schools. It's a sudden obsession today.

Only interested when we are 'closed' hey??

Fossie · 25/01/2021 18:05

Sorry to go off topic....

We might have the budget for some graphics tablets for our department (maths) to work with our school laptop (Lenovo) on Teams. I know someone was recommending some many threads back, could I ask if those could recommend again?

As you were.

Piggywaspushed · 25/01/2021 18:11

Beeb trotting out 'teachers no more likely to be infected' line. It's bollocks. The ONS should SO much more publicly reword that!!

At least they looked at things other countries do which might be a good idea here! At long last people are interested in "noble's agenda"!

Yes PUAUS saying 'When will schools return?' is everywhere today. Could it be something to do with pressure some Tories are putting on Boris Johnson, we ask ourselves?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 18:22

This is outing, but I've just spammed the UsForThem #reopenschools hashtag on Twitter with the byline report.

They are literally lobbying themselves.

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/01/2021 18:31

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot laughing at some of those replies. Love how they just ignore all the sensible replies and then when anyway agrees reply straight away all light and breezy. Restores faith in sensibility rather than than the ridiculous seen on MN.

I have the xp-pen deco 1 (?) It's a little over A4 size so plenty of writing space. It was about £50 Our maths dept splurged on some others which I can't recall the name of but they're much smaller which makes writing on them tricky, I believe.

It must be something about on-line provision, live on-line teaching, surely?

No idea what, though.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 18:52

twitter.com/teachertoolkit/status/1353774973295464448?s=21

Analysis of the reopen schools hashtag shows that the byline times article was one of the most linked to articles on it. Good work spammers!

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 18:53

Maybe a campaign with Marcus Rashford about inequality?

In my area, there have been initiatives to get pens, paper and laptops out to pupils.

It's beyond aggravating that this is what people, not the government, are doing.

🤷‍♀️

Lol. I was just considering doing that.
thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 18:55

Rulewithawoodenfoot and noblegiraffe I've read-tweeted that article, too, with the hashtag.

I'm so glad you made me aware of it.

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2021 19:01

The Daily Mail are running a campaign to get laptops to disadvantaged kids.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9177831/Daily-Mail-launches-new-drive-aid-Britains-children-struggling-lessons-home.html

Which is obviously great as they have quite a reach. The campaign has been backed by Gavin Williamson even though it basically says ‘you’ve done a shit job, Gav’,

thecatfromjapan · 25/01/2021 19:04

It certainly does say that, noble.
