You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Husband is looking concerned! To be fair, we have enough alcohol to run an upmarket cocktail bar (showing off) but I WANT BAILEY'S!

Monkeytennis97 · 22/01/2021 19:54

Done TES survey... and breathe...😂

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/01/2021 19:56

@MrsDanvers123 I agree it will hot the "hidden" kids the most. It is unfair, but I personally think it would be more unfair to grade them from December when I know plenty of them are working and their grade will improve. They will be assessed when they come back into the building, it would be impossible to ignore the work they've done now in my subject, because thy will have learnt more.

Don't feel bad for moaning. I'm at the end of my reserves and am in bed already. Colleagues pissing me off and I think it's because we are all knackered. There's also a lot of grumbles about workload disparity in different subjects at our place. Is this being seen elsewhere?

MrsDanvers123 · 22/01/2021 19:56

And thank you Enemy - feels like the only online interaction I've had today ConfusedHmm

MrsDanvers123 · 22/01/2021 19:57

Thank you Herc I know you make sense - as always!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/01/2021 20:02

I hope (and I have no idea how this would work) that ofqual include some kind of teacher judgment alongside assessment. So that students who were affected by home life still get the 'correct' grades.

You can have the bottle of Baileys from our cupboard, I'll swap you for a gin!

RandomGrammarPun · 22/01/2021 20:05

re subject disparity - yes, quiet moans.

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2021 20:15

Done the TES survey!

TheHoneyBadger · 22/01/2021 20:23

Thanks to those who have well done'd my boundary keeping. It sounds so trivial but but it's been a big deal and given me back time and peace of mind that was getting drained.

I am jealous of the cocktail bar. Just beer here.

noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 20:25

Please tell me that's a joke?

Schoolcloud crashed for us last night too. Luckily, only affected 2 appointments for me and I managed to email those parents.

This week has been ok but so, so long. I am finding supporting my team quite tricky to do remotely. I am doing my very best to keep in regular contact/promptly answer queries/share suggestions for remote teaching etc. but, I can't help feel I am missing something somewhere.

I have managed to put an upcoming assessment on forms though which will make life easier for all.

Had a disastrous Y10 lesson today Sad the visualiser wouldn't work so I couldn't do what I wanted to and it was awful Sad but Y11/9 went well I think.

Feel like I got loads done this week but still have a million things I need to do Confused

Monkeytennis97 · 22/01/2021 20:26

@noblegiraffe that's gone to an error page

noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 20:28

Schoolsweek?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 22/01/2021 20:30

January and Riga, hope you are both ok xx

Mrsdanvers absolutely anything we do at this point will be unfair to one group. I know it's an unpopular view but I think every student should repeat the year from reception upwards. The main years that will be impacted will be preschools and yr1 unis - and both desperately need bailing out anyway, so funding needs to be chucked at them whatever happens.
I think we start schooling way too young in this country anyway - and my kids are pretty academic

chocolateisavegetable · 22/01/2021 20:35

Wow Noble you were absolutely right about the parents evening thing

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 22/01/2021 20:36

School cloud crashed here last night too (unless we all work in the same school confused)

It crashed all over the country last night, as the server went down. Spent three and a half hours mostly staring at my screen, as so many appointments were disrupted and have had to answer lots of emails and schedule calls well after school hours as so many parents are unavailable during the school day.

noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 20:37

Comments are pretty good though. Parents going 'why the fuck should I give up my weekend to talk to some lazy arsed wanker about maths?''

chocolateisavegetable · 22/01/2021 20:40

but that parent saying "teachers should offer an On-Demand parents evening service" ... Shock

CarrieBlue · 22/01/2021 20:49

noble - the story’s been pulled from all of those links, do you think someone at the dfe was a bit quick sending out the press release?

Sureitwillbegrand · 22/01/2021 20:53

@EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation Teachermade gives you a link which can assign directly to your google classroom. They click the link it opens the document no app needed

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2021 20:57

Nothing on Twitter either...

noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 20:58

Oh no, where are we at that people think that parents evening weekends might be a genuine suggestion?

Sureitwillbegrand · 22/01/2021 20:58

Wow that story was pulled very quickly 😂

Sureitwillbegrand · 22/01/2021 20:59

😂😂😂😂 now that made me giggle
