You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I agree that if it's opaque presented it won't help school staff much.

But I'm pleased that for everyone else it should be accurate. Then, if it's police, or supermarket staff, or carers, we'll know who is the worst affected.

Last week, everyone I spoke to at school or out of school knew at least one HCP each in ITU (all different people) Sad

Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2021 18:08

Oh dear. The deaths I know of are of older people/people already terminally ill and that's bad enough.

JanuaryChill · 22/01/2021 18:12

Thanks honey, am ok, made myself go out today and am so glad I did. Might be fiddling around here as a prevarication of course.....

My DS is def my fave child (shhh) atm as he's decided he's coming to the funeral - I let them choose as they weren't close to my DB and there's the number limits to keep to and he doesn't growl at me when I try and get him to turn off the ear buds and listen to me for a moment like his DSis.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/01/2021 18:13

@chocolateisavegetable

In our briefing today found out we will be doing LFT for staff only. However it's only if you have no symptoms and bubbles will still close so that's a huge relief. Primary and very relieved it's not for students.

Same here (also Primary).

Flumposie That's great news!

Does anyone want to place bets on how soon we'll get threads saying "now the R number is down, schools can fully reopen" ?

I give it a week. Perhaps a bit more if the rate of the fall in daily cases levels off a bit.

Have booked my appointment for my vaccine. It's on Tuesday. Fingers crossed they will let me have it and won't turn me away.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/01/2021 18:20

Happy Friday all.

What's the deal with one shitty email ruining your week? Not even a parent this time.

School cloud crashed here last night too (unless we all work in the same school Confused)

HarrietDVane · 22/01/2021 18:26

Parents at pick up time were already speculating about when we could reopen following the announcement that the R rate is decreasing. School is in an area with the darkest possible rating on the government covid postcode search website. They just don't get it. Sad

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 22/01/2021 18:33

@MrsDanvers123 I don't see how we can not count the work they are doing now? They need an incentive to keep going. Secondary schools aren't overwhelmed with KW kids so if studying at home isn't possible, those kids should be in school. I would hate for this not to count.

RandomGrammarPun · 22/01/2021 18:38

I know three people aged from late 20s to early 30s currently in ITU.

Two are HCPs, one is a nursery nurse.

(I know older people very sick in ITU too - also HCP. Maybe I just know a lot of people!)

JanuaryChill · 22/01/2021 18:42

I'd have thought the news about the new variant being possibly more deadly might put paid to some of that parental/MN speculation .....

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/01/2021 18:59

Yeah but FAKE NEWS or something, January

JanuaryChill · 22/01/2021 19:01

!

MrsHamlet · 22/01/2021 19:01

School cloud crashed on us last night too!

Highlight of my day was correcting the spelling of a student writing about a poem in which he claims there is a "hair"

Graphics tablet to the rescue... I drew a head with hair and a rabbit with a sign. It amused me greatly.

starrynight19 · 22/01/2021 19:10

Yes school cloud crashed for my dd parents Eve last night. Saw lots of complaints on Twitter saying the same thing happened last week as well.

I know... can feel myself getting angry with certain posters so going to hide here now 😊
noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 19:27

Go on TES, they're running one of their surveys that gets reported back to the DfE about how we think the government is performing re schools and coronavirus. It was a pop-up at the bottom of the screen when I just went there.

noblegiraffe · 22/01/2021 19:29

Well if you were all on schoolcloud last night, no wonder it crashed.

Announcement by Gav: Schools will henceforth be allocated a night for parents evening to even the demand on the servers. To maximise effectiveness, this will include Friday nights and weekends.

EvilEdnasEnemiesOfEducation · 22/01/2021 19:34

Quick question, with teachermade do the kids need to download the app or can they just open the document you make and use it as it is?

TheHoneyBadger · 22/01/2021 19:35

Ha. Similarly I've had a lot of students writing about how Henry VIII wanted an air.

We've just had chicken drumsticks that ds made and rubbed in a marinade for this morning. (Raw chicken makes me queasy.) Pretty random cacophony of ingredients he threw in there but they were actually quite tasty.

He was seriously picky for years and it's becoming more enjoyable to cook and eat with him now his tastes have opened up.

I've promised to help him with a couple of history lessons over the weekend because he claims they're hard so not entirely a weekend off of schoolwork but at least it's his not mine.

How's everyone doing with their kids remote learning?

Please tell me that's a joke?

I do get it, but also feel really uncomfortable with this situation I would have been one of the invisible kids who missed out on the help but would have had no quiet working space, real support etc. It just seems that those kids will be disadvantaged again. I am extremely hard hearted and realistic, but this just seems unfair and additionally, massively open to abuse from creative interpretations of what is meant by 'assessment'.

I think I am just done with this whole load of shit that is, once again, being left for us to shovel our way through...

Hi all,

Would it be bad for me to hope that Soundcloud crashes for a particular pair of parents for me next week?!

Hope everyone is ok. Another week done. Whiteboard.fi is working nicely with my classes, the Y7s write sweet messages on them for me!

Diet going ok but forgetting about it tonight. Been waiting two hours for my delivery from the takeaway though Hmm...

MrsDanvers123 · 22/01/2021 19:50

Sorry for my moan - I think I am feeling particularly despondent tonight plus I am premenstrual and drank all the Bailey's last week and failed to replace it Grin

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 22/01/2021 19:50

@chocolateisavegetable

I've stuck to my boundaries for a whole week now.

Very proud of you HoneyBadger

Woo hoo well done! Personal boundaries can be hard to enforce sometimes Flowers
