You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

How did school find out about the Instagram post sansa? I'm a bit concerned that it could be happening all over and we wouldn't find out purely because we aren't actively looking for it. Not that I've done any live lessons with my year 11 classes yet. I'm possibly going to do one on Thursday. I think the majority of my class are nice, but there are some characters who just wouldn't think about anyone my feelings if they recorded me and put me elsewhere on the internet. Even live lessons will only be my visualiser with me talking, no face on screen for me.

CallmeAngelina · 19/01/2021 14:42

Does it make a difference if it's live or a recorded video? I presume it could still be lifted?

ChloeDecker · 19/01/2021 15:22

Bit of an end of an era. TES community has closed! It went hugely downhill when they tried to mess with it so much and I haven’t used it really for so long. Great memories in my early teaching days though. I met some great people who I am still friends with, on that forum.

I’m still good friends with someone I met on TES 14 years ago. He was a bit of a troll, kept getting banned. Very respectable in real life!

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2021 15:36

I’m camera off in my lessons and videos. Aside from anything else, I want them to be looking at the maths, not my ugly mug.

Which then just made me think about all the protests about wearing masks in classrooms and lip reading. I guess teams does subtitles?

I suppose it could be lifted from a video as well. In fact, they can just download a video with no extra effort. I hope none of them would think of doing it to my videos because quite frankly they are really dull (but informative)
MrsHamlet · 19/01/2021 15:41

Teams does do subtitles. They're appalling!

Can't think what you'd have had in common.... 🧐
JanuaryChill · 19/01/2021 16:10

The more I think about it, the more I know that LFTs and vaccines for teachers are going to be used to get us back into school ASAP.

JanuaryChill · 19/01/2021 16:25

Although, how long would it take to vaccinate all school staff?

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2021 16:25

Shock I’m very well behaved!! Grin

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2021 16:26

Jennie Harries was clear in the Ed select whatsit today that they didn’t care about vaccinating teachers.

She's odious!
Evvyjb · 19/01/2021 16:32

Question - I (as HOD) need to organise a way for students to sit a second mock exam next week. Are there any approaches that other schools (and my fellow "enemies of education") are taking that are worth considering?

We are using teams, and I have precisely 0 budget to do this...

Report on Harries and the committee.

Regional returns starting after half term??

Meanwhile highest daily death figures ever today, over 1600.

MrsHamlet · 19/01/2021 16:39

Post the questions as an assignment in teams. They write in word and submit. Assignment has an end time.

It's open to all kinds of problems though!!!!

JanuaryChill · 19/01/2021 16:42

From the Schoolsweek article, esp the last sentence - Shock

Harries was also questioned about the accuracy of the tests, and said they were “accurate but with provisos”, adding that they helped to detect asymptomatic cases.
She claimed doing two lateral flow tests a week “is equivalent in effectiveness and accuracy” as one PCR test. This is because of the speed of response and the fact positive cases can “immediately” be taken out of circulation, she said.

She also said that the accuracy of the tests “has perhaps been misunderstood in some circles”.

I wonder what might have led to that, Dr Harries?????!

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2021 16:42

Oh no I thought they had been dropping :(

And the ONS still haven’t released their infection rate graphs. I really want to see them.

JanuaryChill · 19/01/2021 16:43

Cases dropping noble, so deaths will but not for a week or two

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 19/01/2021 16:47

We're still putting all of our stuff up on the school webpage. Simplest way for them to find it - follow the stars children. Half of them can't work out how to open an email using their Teams login, so you know. Scream.

I wonder what they’ll do with regional returns, eg if your local rate is over 1000/100,000 then, no schools go back, if you’re 500-1000/100,000 then just some year groups but, if below 500/100,000, then everyone back at full capacity?!
Appuskidu · 19/01/2021 16:59

Jenny Harries is a bloody liar.

What good systems of control?! The only real system there was in secondary was identifying and isolating close contacts of positive cases and they are trying to get rid of that.

Redbridge with its 17% attendance before Xmas might tell her to fuck right off.

Is there no acknowledgment from her that the new strain ripped through schools in London and the SE in a devastating fashion?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 19/01/2021 17:04

Hasn't seen vast number of schools with outbreaks? Wtf? Has she not even read the data?
