You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Incidentally, we are discussing the Ofqual proposals on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4125897-Exams-cancelled and it would be interesting to hear from teachers of other subjects.

We all need to fill out this consultation I reckon.

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 14:14

Hope the fresh air helps, Enemy Flowers

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 14:16

Noble is way more of a twat than you

I saw this comment come up on my 'threads I'm on' and my first reaction was 'well this could be any thread, which one is it this time?' Grin

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 16/01/2021 14:26

@noblegiraffe those spiteful posters just hate it because we are still in this Covid mess because rules were not followed and part of that must be linked to schools /colleges opening decisions

I knew you're good at taking one for the team noble Wink

It's really gray and depressing here. Trying to motivate myself to cook the chicken stir fry I've been promising ds and to at least unload and reload the dishwasher in a small stand against domestic chaos.

Ds is happy playing online with his mates and I could easily just lie here.

Oh and we'll be ok because I have bought some premium bonds. When I win I'll take us on our post Covid staff room tour. And hire a housekeeper.

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 15:21

I found two delicious recipes to try. One needs shrimp paste. One needs green mango pickle. Sainsbury's has everything I need except those things. I have rage

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 15:22

I think Sainsbury's is doing you a favour there, MrsHamlet

JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 15:24

Can't wait honey!

Have been told that my brother (with Down's plus dementia) is likely to die - Covid - in the next day or so.

I really don't know whether to visit. Difficult to know whether he'll know I'm there, and I'm frankly worried about catching it, esp as a single mum. Wouldn't have felt like this preciously, but the new variant is scarily transmissible and his county have it more than ours.

So at least less time for me to worry about safeguarding/KW children exploiting the fact that they have a different member of staff supervising each day including some who aren't normally pupil facing/ my first LFT on Monday. Of course if I did visit I would have to isolate for 10 days anyway.

Enemy ThanksThanksThanks

It's tough it really is. You are doing many jobs at once.

🤣🤣🤣 The manager I asked would agree. He suggested sausages.
RigaBalsam · 16/01/2021 15:28

January ThanksThanks

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 15:32

So sorry to hear that january

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 15:32

Oh January what a difficult decision, and I'm so sorry that you're faced with it on top of the grief you must be feeling Flowers

If he knew you were there and it brought comfort then that would be an easier choice but that you could be putting yourself at risk and he wouldn't even know makes it less obvious.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 15:34

Oh January that is so hard. Flowers

JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 15:43

Thanks all. Am going to try FaceTiming him now (he's basically blind so it's more for me to see him!)

HarrietDVane · 16/01/2021 16:03

Oops, hit post too soon!

So sorry January. It's an awful situation Sad

Enemy I've messed up so much with tech this week, duplicated recordings, lost recordings, uploaded documents to the wrong places... We didn't train for this and quite frankly parents need to cut us some bloody slack. I have had a few doing some low level grumbling about tech issues entirely beyond my control, or the fact that I haven't responded within five minutes of their email (because I'm also in school teaching full time, as I keep telling them) - sometimes you just can't win with people.

Be kind to yourself. You're doing the best you can and that is enough.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/01/2021 16:16

@JanuaryChill how rubbish and @EnemyOfEducationNo1 we are all messing up. Each time I open my school email I have my fingers crossed that there are no complaints waiting for me.

Today I have hoovered and eaten a sausage roll and that's it really. I am shattered.

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 16:27

Why did you hoover a sausage roll, Squashed?

Some dubious food choices being made on the thread today.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 16:35

🤣

I need to vacuum the house. Tomorrow's job I think, as well as a MH run.
I think that's part of the problem for me - with me and DH either working or childcare there is no time for my usual stuff that keeps me on an even keel!

And on another note- look how well serial LFT instead of isolating has worked (not) in this pilot www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/questions-over-jaguar-land-rover-19627875.amp?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar&__twitter_impression=true

I have that feeling of dread on opening emails as well. There's always something that you should have been doing a different way, or add in another layer of things to do or worry about

chocolateisavegetable · 16/01/2021 16:39

January I am so very sorry Flowers Flowers

namechangedyetagain · 16/01/2021 16:41

Oh what an awful situation January you will know what feels right for you.

Feel like this is so unimportant now but can I join in the Saturday gloom? Still don't feel great post covid. This week I've taught all day every day bar yesterday morning as class TAs are off with covid. Had a great experience but as it wasn't all my planning I'm not sure it will count. Others on my course are only in their schools a couple of days a week and so are doing loads of CPD.

My PGCE assignment has been deferred but it means that I won't qualify with my cohort as I won't make the exam board in time Sad. Shouldn't affect getting QTS apparently. I feel so cross with myself for getting covid.

And I had a glass of wine last night and stupidly mentioned to my teacher that I'd be interested in applying for a job should one come up at school. Stressing about that as well.

I've decided that our WhatsApp group makes me feel worse. There are people on my course who are absolutely smashing everything. I just feel a bloody failure.

Rant over. Sorry.
