You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

A review on the 8th Feb, Mistress

Appuskidu · 16/01/2021 11:57
@Appuskidu I fear you're right - I think the most likely outcome will be 'kids are not at risk and they don't spread it, teachers are at no more risk than anyone else, but children will literally die in their 30s addicted to drugs having never had a job if we don't open schools straight away'

Oh and also 'the LF tests are actually really accurate but only on kids, so crack on with the testing plan there's a good chap!'
It’s just so depressing and so unfair.

No doubt if the unions object, the only headline that any papers will print is ‘Gav battles leftie teachers who have been at home for nearly a year who reject the excellent mass testing plan’ and all the replies will say things like ‘God, it’s better than no testing, what exactly DO teachers want?! Get them back to work NOW!!!’

No doubt Gavin will also say that because schools are so safe, there will still be no need for masks in classrooms. Oh, and Ofsted will be back ASAP.

I think the only change they will make to ‘schools open as normal’ is the Lateral Flow testing. They don’t want to provide extra money for staffing, ventilation, heating or cleaning and won’t condone needing masks as that would suggest schools aren’t safe and they don’t want parents realising that. That’s why they are so keen to go ahead with the Lf testing despite the lack of approval from the MHRA-it’s quite literally THE plan. They don’t have an alternative one, so can’t stop it. I matter who says it is crap/dangerous/pointless/ineffective/reckless.

DollyMixtureLulus · 16/01/2021 11:59

Ooh I didn’t know it was this Tuesday @Mistressiggi ! I don’t see any reopening but you never know.

cornercupboard · 16/01/2021 12:08

I'm at home on unpaid leave but have been doing stuff regardless.
Horrified at the lateral flow debacle.
I know I'm having a down day but I just feel so pushed into a corner (my literal cupboard!) by the politicising of the "school are safe" thing.
I thought Bozo had said closures until Feb half term at least Mistressiggi, what on earth will they find to say on 8th?

Grumpy and miserable.

HarrietDVane · 16/01/2021 12:23

Hello all - just place marking as I couldn't get on to MM at all last night! Hope you're all ok.

Mistressiggi · 16/01/2021 12:24

Scotland, we don't listen to Bozo Wink
I doubt we will be back on the 1st, we have a Feb half term but it's at different times in different councils.
I want to be off because it's safer, but I've had a much worse week at home than I would have had in school.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 12:39

I am depressed. Gone back to bed and left the kids with their devices - DH is working to try to make up some hours from during the week when he had the kids during my lessons.
I just can't stop crying.
It's all crap, I keep doing things wrong.

Mistressiggi · 16/01/2021 12:43

Oh no don't cry Sad I think we need at these times to go back to "is everyone fed, is everyone safe" approach and expect less of ourselves. It's nice if you have a bit of time alone and not good to spend it being upset Flowers

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 12:48

It's more that I'm screwing up at work with these bloody online live lessons. I got something wrong (not content - more protocols) and there's been a complaint.
It's impossible. I can't do full time live to timetable teaching with 3 primary aged children at home.
I'm only supposed to be part time due to MH anyway!

WhenSheWasBad · 16/01/2021 12:51

Flowers enemy hate to hear you sounding so down. It is all crap at the moment.

Take some time for yourself. If it helps keep
posting on here.

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 12:55

What did you get wrong, Enemy?

This is a steep learning curve, we are all getting things wrong and we honestly need to be kind to ourselves and remember that whatever we're getting wrong, Gavin Williamson is still in a fucking job and we're definitely doing way better than him.

That isn’t right-you poor thing. Are they paying you part time??

Can you ring the GP on Monday?

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 13:05

Enemy you made a mistake but it was a mistake. No one died.
Parents complain all the time - often because their little cherub is revealed to be less than perfect.
You should not be working full time and paid for part time.
It sounds like you need a week off, away from the computer.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/01/2021 13:06

Oh @EnemyOfEducationNo1 be mind to yourself today. I’m partially (greatly!) responsible for remote learning at my school and we’ve had mistakes made by a fair number of staff! It’s massive learning curve, and we’re trying to just keep supporting and working together as much as we can. Please don’t worry, you are definitely not going to be the first or the last - all we can do is keep trying our best. None of us came into teaching to sit behind a screen and teach remotely - and we’ve all be dropped on the deep end. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it less publicly or anything. I also second speaking to GP if necessary to protect your MH. You and your family have to be your priority. Have a good cry/wallow and then start again maybe - sometimes that works for me x

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/01/2021 13:06

*kind not mind 🤦‍♀️

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 16/01/2021 13:14

💐 and 🍫 for you enemy - we are all trying to cope with crappy situations and quite frankly I feel overwhelmed with less to deal with than you! Parents frequently complain about such silly things, forgetting that teachers are people and take things personally. Can you contact your GP Monday and see if they can help? Are SLT being supportive?

RandomGrammarPun · 16/01/2021 13:18

Absolute bloody preach, Noble

Enemy - Flowers

Grin genuinely laughed at this. True 😌
EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 13:24

What would I do without you lot, you're the best Flowers

TheHoneyBadger · 16/01/2021 13:40

I'm going to buck the trend and give you a good shake enemy! Stop beating up someone who is having to work under ridiculous stressful conditions for making a mistake you big bully!

Maybe time to tell work you can't do it after all and you need to go back to your official part time hours?

I felt very glum for a couple of hours today and I didn't know why. Just deflated and then started beating myself up about the state of the house and everything I should do but don't have the energy for so I've been being a cow too.

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 13:42

This fortnight I have had to abandon a live lesson because of tech failure, accidentally left my ipad recording my kitchen for half an hour, had kids pissing about in chat, forgot to record a lesson, had a recorded lesson inexplicably not upload to teams, had kids start a lesson two hours early, issued instructions to a class while on mute, forgot to download an attendance register five billion times and I think I'm doing a pretty good job.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/01/2021 13:52

See? Noble is way more of a twat than you Wink

I realised that on two of my recorded lessons last week I went on about ppe paragraphs.

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 13:59

Oh that made me laugh, honey

TheHoneyBadger · 16/01/2021 14:00

Even in class the kids learn to tell me, it's on freeze miss! I waffle on about a slide that isn't on the board. At first they're useless but once they get used to the fact that I do this multiple times each lesson they accept it's their responsibility to remind me Wink

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 14:04

🤣🤣

Feel much better now. Going to take the kids (and me) out for some fresh air now.
