You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention
🤣

I need to vacuum the house. Tomorrow's job I think, as well as a MH run.
I think that's part of the problem for me - with me and DH either working or childcare there is no time for my usual stuff that keeps me on an even keel!

And on another note- look how well serial LFT instead of isolating has worked (not) in this pilot www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/questions-over-jaguar-land-rover-19627875.amp?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar&__twitter_impression=true
Yes the not being able to do stuff for "me".

Oh that Jaguar Land Rover story definitely needs airing!!

FaceTiming was good, brother content but wheezing, only half awake.

His home now have 90% of residents and 70% of staff positive...... no one else really ill though AFAIK, which is good.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 16/01/2021 16:53

Namechanged please don't feel bad. Sometimes the people who appear to be smashing it on PGCE don't actually do so well on the job as you think they would - and that's the important bit . Not put that very well, but hopefully you get my gist.

JanuaryChill omg that's horrendous amount of infection in one place! I'm glad you managed to have a good facetime with your DB Flowers

JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 16:55

Don't know if any Archers fans here (👩🏽‍🌾?) but I just saw this on the Archers thread:

I wonder where Gavin is....

and felt very confused for a moment!!!

(Gavin's dad is about to be charged with modern slavery, for those who might want to know!)

JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 16:58

Yes enemy, small home though, 10 residents, disabled adults.

Monkey I hope all is well with your DS and his place.

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:00

@JanuaryChill ThanksThanks thinking of you and your brother.

Anxiety has got the better of me guys so have started on beta blockers today. Will still keep reading and posting when I feel strong enough. You guys are fab xx

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:01

@JanuaryChill there have been another couple of positives of staff but so far two more negatives for our beautiful boy.

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:02

Sorry for using the word 'guys' as well. Horrible word!

RigaBalsam · 16/01/2021 17:09

@Monkeytennis97

Sorry for using the word 'guys' as well. Horrible word!
I used it all of the time in class. 🙈 Never in real life but then I cringe at calling one class the year they are in. Right year 10. Can't do it. Blush
JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 17:19

I use guys a lot. Monkey I'm sorry if my post was anxious-making for you, I didn't think until had posted. I guess the positive I'd take from DB's place is that out of 10 CEV residents, he seems to be the only one severely affected, and he was pretty poorly to begin with and has had low quality of life for a year or so now.

noblegiraffe · 16/01/2021 17:20

I really do have a thread for all occasions.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3972294-Hi-guys-You-don-t-mind-if-I-call-you-guys-right

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:22

@JanuaryChill no it wasn't your post please don't apologize @JanuaryChill xx I've just become fixated on a non Covid health issue and have been really anxious about it. I'm so sorry to hear about your DB x

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:22

@noblegiraffe 😂😂

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2021 17:26

I always call my classes guys or people or folks. I, too, don't like that 'year 10' thing. Not sure what else to call them? 'OK, students'. Vom.

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 17:26

Well I found shrimp paste in the Chinese supermarket but they'd run out of bloody green mango pickle. Never fear though.... I've gone for option 3.... pumpkin curry!!!

name I've known many trainees who, to listen to them, you'd think were smashing it. In reality, the ones who've gone on to successfully teach long term are rarely the same people.
Also don't worry about the QTS/PGCE thing. The bit you need is the QTS and you'll get that on time.

I love the archers but very rarely hear it these days. I miss joe.

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 17:27

Oi, you, oiks!
I try not to do that on teams.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/01/2021 17:27

@JanuaryChill sorry to hear that, but glad you got to facetime. Whatever choice you make is totally OK x

@Monkeytennis97 hope they help and you are ok.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/01/2021 17:29

@noblegiraffe I always hoover sausage rolls before eaten them at home. Doesn't everyone? Saves the crumbs from getting on the carpet! Grin

Monkeytennis97 · 16/01/2021 17:31

@MrsHerculePoirot thanks x

JanuaryChill · 16/01/2021 17:42

MrsH they had pumpkins???

Ah yes, Joe. Would love to hear his commentary on Boris Johnson!

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 17:44

Well no, january. I used butternut squash instead 😂
I love cooking but today was not my day!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 16/01/2021 17:44

I watched an Oak lesson yesterday where the teacher kept saying 'so then, Team'. Annoying.

Saucery · 16/01/2021 17:56

What a difficult situation, January I hope you find a resolution that you can make peace with Flowers

I’ve spoken to several family, friends and colleagues over the past few days. We’re all feeling really, really worn out by the whole thing now. Lots of tears all over the place.

I worked with a teacher who used “guys” incessantly. Omg, I developed a nervous flinch whenever she said it, by the end of the year.

cornercupboard · 16/01/2021 18:04

I call my lot "munchkins" or "you horrible lot" if I'm up in KS2.
THey tend to live up to their name.

RandomGrammarPun · 16/01/2021 18:10

I use "guys" but definitely use "folks" more.

Year 7/Year 9 works if you have to bellow down a corridor. Not in current times, obviously, no shouting allowed.

So sorry to hear about your brother, January.

MrsHamlet · 16/01/2021 18:17

I use "oiks" if they're being annoying, or "ladies and gentlemen" more often. "Folks" sometimes.
I also - shockingly - refer to my favourite. In any given lesson I will probably say "and that's why you're my favourite" five or six times to different students. They compete to get to be favourite - one of my very weak year 11 became favourite the other day for saying something really clever. He was chuffed to bits 🙂
