You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I also want to know what proportion of primary children are on these exemption lists? I reckon it must be quite a lot, and yet Twatelaaar barely mentioned them in passing.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 30/12/2020 18:19

I have found MN have been really good again recently when I’ve reported posters-they’re nearly always deleted. I ask if it’s a pbp-it always seems to be!

Hercwasonasnowball · 30/12/2020 18:20

I'm not venturing out from here.

Does anyone know about non exam years? Is the guidance anywhere? God only knows if my y10 don't get teaching Sad

starrynight19 · 30/12/2020 18:21

@CallmeAngelGabriel

So, if I'm OK to go into school and mix with hundreds of people perfectly safely next week, I think I might go out partying on New Year's Eve.

Why the fuck not?

I feel exactly the same.
Frlrlrubert · 30/12/2020 18:21

From the NEU email for anyone who hasn't seen it:

We demand:
• A review of all risk assessments in the light of the higher transmission of the new Covid-19 variant.
• Social distancing of 1 metre between pupils in all schools and colleges to replace the current practice of cohort distancing, which allows whole year groups to mix.
• Masks to be worn by pupils and staff in secondary school classrooms and colleges
• School staff to be made a top priority for vaccination – along with health care staff – starting with the most vulnerable.
• Until vaccinated, clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) staff and other high-risk groups to work from home, supporting children who are also at home.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 30/12/2020 18:22

I really want to ask some of those pompously smug "I'm so glad" or "I'm a key worker so my child is OK" posters, how glad they will be when the whole cohort is taken out to isolate on the second day of term, meaning no KW kids in at all, regardless of how vital your job is.

DecemberStar · 30/12/2020 18:23

Presumably the jolly old Updated Guidance will be along tonight

Wait4nothing · 30/12/2020 18:23

Primary here. I want schools in but this feels ridiculous. If it isn’t safe for me to see another soul except my family indoors how on earth is it fine for me to mix with a class full on Monday? No testing, no planned vaccines, moving to tier 4 at midnight.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 30/12/2020 18:24

Signed that petition straightaway!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 30/12/2020 18:26

I'm wondering what the threshold of infection is in order to make it onto that list.
My LA is at just over 500/100,000 and not on the list. The one next door (and half my school's catchment) is about 760 I think. Where is the cut-off?

Seems to clarify nothing for non exam years

CallmeAngelGabriel · 30/12/2020 18:29

@CallmeAngelGabriel

Well, I've reported one of the threads mentioned. Is she fuck a teacher.
Good. It's gone for now.
Piggyinblankets · 30/12/2020 18:30

I am fine with that. It's a couple of weeks. We can't go out on to wider MN and tell parents to chill if we don't ourselves.

God knows what DS2 (year 12) will do all week though. He thrives on working. He has done 3 hours work every day this holiday except Xmas Day! He'll have to invent his own work...

Hercwasonasnowball · 30/12/2020 18:31

piggy I am going to set some optional work on teams for 10&12s. Some of them will need stuff and I don't want them to feel abandoned.

RigaBalsam · 30/12/2020 18:32

My Dd will be set some Oak from me if nothing is set. I can see my school saying teach remote lessons anyway.

phlebasconsidered · 30/12/2020 18:34

Just waiting for our usual "inspirational " email from our academy trust CEO. He's a fucking wanker as well.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 30/12/2020 18:35

I'm a fan of The Goldburgs and it tickles me that they refer to JVT by his initials on the briefings. It really feels like Barry and his JTP, where his gang parrot it back to him as a chant every time he says it.

They're arguing (lower down thread) on the basis of the Contingency Framework (oh my, have you realised what the abbreviation for that is?? Was just thinking we're going to be referring to that a lot....)

... but next week is nothing to do with the contingency framework as I see it.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 30/12/2020 18:38

Finished all but one of the bastard KOs. That's 35 in total. Last one is half done. And I wrote all the plans too.

I will laser anyone who insinuates a change to the curriculum or content.

Dh has announced a cold and so booked a test and declared himself off child duty. 😖 Absolutely fucking no clue where he's got it from, still scratching our heads about toddler's fading rash. 🤷🏻‍♀️

hedgehogger1 · 30/12/2020 18:40

Why are we still not getting kids to wear masks? Secondary kids have them already.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 30/12/2020 18:40

lets face it a lot of posters haven't followed the ruled. Just look at AIBU & Corona over the past few weeks and it is all

  • can I still cook lunch for 12
-my teen has been to a party -can I still have a party for my 1/2/3 ....90 year old -my childcare person is still seeing people from 6 different households -Bil, Sil etc having parties -My DH is just back from skiing in Verbier does he have to isolate -Do I have to cancel my traditional NY party for 30 or can I just host it in an Airbnb instead.

I am charging my magical virus repelling forcefield suit....I like to imagine I will look like a superhero, but the reality will be just me in my usual baggy old black leggings and paint splattered tunic adorned with a motif of fresh child snot.

They don't though will they? They'll be queuing for their fucking pointless tests every day for a week instead (ignoring the 10 day rule too note)

Education and epidemiology section of my twitter are kicking off over the primary opening. Nobody thinks it makes sense. No way is this what ‘the science’ recommended.
