You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Happy New Year everyone Glitterball

These threads are truly keeping me going through the madness!

@Monkeytennis97💞 lovely post!

Doubt I'll still be up at midnight- I'm sat in bed. Got a slight cold Sad no covid symptoms thankfully just a bit sneezy/sore throat. So most likely will read and go to sleep!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 31/12/2020 21:09

I never go to bed before midnight, so will be awake, but prob not doing anything exciting. Tattinger and Pringles for tea.

phlebasconsidered · 31/12/2020 21:12

I am on gin number 3. The teens deigned to eat with me. They are now all in virtual parties. Mum has nodded off. I am watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind again for the first time in years and it strikes me that actually, he's a bit of a dick. He just fucks off in the spaceship and leaves them without even calling!

He's not as much of a dick as Gav though.

Keepdistance · 31/12/2020 21:13

The non isolating because of rubbish tests will also be at
Scouts or whatever it is for that age group
Brownies
Cinema
Football/gym
Swimming...
Pubs

Surely these places have the right to reject people and say if they are a contact they shouldnt come

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 21:14

Aww happy new year monkey 🥂

Timeturnerplease · 31/12/2020 21:15

Happy New Year everyone. I will very shortly be asleep (thank you toddler), but I just wanted to say that @noblegiraffe you are my hero of 2020 for whipping up such a frenzy to have earned that hyperbolic title!

My dad just dropped off a bottle of champagne and I discovered that he (and I should point out that he is very much your stereotypical Tory voter; wealthy capitalist, investments all over the place) and his buddies genuinely believe that schools were being paid for all additional covid costs. He could not see why ill/isolating teachers would be a big deal, or why we couldn’t just hire some more cleaners. I have put him straight, so hopefully that’s one tiny tiny chunk of society who might not believe everything they read in the Telegraph about schools...

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 31/12/2020 21:16

Head emailed at 8pm. Fully online for one week then yr 11 and 13 in school and everyone else online. We can now wear masks in lessons (own choice ). Then waiting for next review

I'm
In bed and deciding what to watch.

Ds2 has nodded off. Ds1 (8) has decided to stay up to midnight; Dh will be dealing with any tantrums that result tomorrow as he's sanctioned it 😂

Dh is waiting for Covid test results for his man flu. Seems a fitting end for 2020!

Happy new year all!

Yes happy new year everyone , your the calm in the storm. Special thanks to Noble keep up the good work. See you all on the other side 🎊

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 31/12/2020 21:20

I normally watch all the people having fun and the fireworks at the castle near me on the telly, while being nostalgic for days pre-dc when it was me out celebrating (and snogging - can't imagine kissing strangers in the street these days!) But tonight there'll be no one on telly to watch! Ds is sulking in his room as we won't let him download GTA which all his friends are playing (I do believe him) and we have spoiled his life.
I will need to restrain myself from posting on shitty threads once I've had a few tonight. Sweet dreams to all going off a bit early 😴

cornercupboard · 31/12/2020 21:22

Happy New Year to you all. I'm watching Black Narcissus and trying not to nod off, it's a bit slow going. Then will be going to bed. Stupid fireworks being let off ever since it got dark, and no doubt they will bang away at midnight and wake me up, so I'll be grumpy.

Frlrlrubert · 31/12/2020 21:23

Happy New Year everyone.

Thank you all - you've been a massive support this year.

Head emailed around 8pm to say we shall hopefully be lateral flow testing all staff on Monday during inset. Plus getting timetables for remote learning. I wonder if we'll turn up any positives 😱

13luckyblackcats · 31/12/2020 21:28

Whoever recommended Winterberry gin and fizzy white wine (I have prosecco)-thank you, I think.

RigaBalsam · 31/12/2020 21:30

Happy New Year all of you.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/12/2020 21:32

Who’s put 50p in UfT? They seem very triggered tonight. There’s another ‘will nobody think of the young’ thread on the go now.

GleamingBaubles · 31/12/2020 21:34

Happy New Year! I'm about to open a bottle of wine before I do dry January and grumble about the fireworks later Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 31/12/2020 21:35

You can't say happy new year before it's new year - say it tomorrow when it is a new year. I'm concerned there might be a rule like an awful year ahead if people say it before midnight.

We scoffed Indian (very tasty fish and spinach dish for me) and watched the Fundamentals of Caring. Second time I've seen it but first for ds and he enjoyed it too.

Now in bed watching scandi drama.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/12/2020 21:40

Wales are reporting that numbers are down.
Well they should be, we've been alert level 4 since the 20th. Schools were shut for the holidays already and a lot of people are working from home. Shops only allowed to do click and collect, hospitality only allowed to do takeaway.

BUT in the North, cases are still rising. My county is 15% up on this time last week.

And tonight I heard a good friend has been taken into hospital to try and help her with her covid symptoms. She has no underlying conditions and is the same age as me. I have been lucky enough to date to not know anyone who has died from cv and hope this continues.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 31/12/2020 21:54

We usually spend New Year with 2 other families, with various of our (adult) kids who haven't got better offers. This time, we're all having nice dinners at home (thanks DH) and are about to meet up on Zoom to play some games and see in the New Year.

MrsHamlet · 31/12/2020 22:05

What's this winterberry gin of which you speak?
Dad told me today that the army are coming to do the testing so all will be well. I give up. He was aghast when I said I would be refusing to participate.

DecemberStar · 31/12/2020 22:10

Happy New Yeaar's Eve all! We're trying to agree on a film.....

The NHS types on this thread finally picked up on what noble and I (!) were saying about LFTs in schools. They're not impressed!

Was thinking, is there one medic or scientist of any description who's prepared to come out and say publicly that this is a sensible idea?

DecemberStar · 31/12/2020 22:11

Lateral flow tests - if they allow school children to bypass self isolation why not use them within the nhs? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4121630-Lateral-flow-tests-if-they-allow-school-children-to-bypass-self-isolation-why-not-use-them-within-the-nhs

13luckyblackcats · 31/12/2020 22:29

@MrsHamlet I have this one www.aldi.co.uk/spiced-apple-%26-winter-berry-gin/p/021333317542800

because my mum will only drink one very specific gin, and this is not it. Hence being given to me.

I always enjoy your posts, having been educated in Lancaster and having since moved consistently south. Hope you have a good New Yesr.
