You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Heard from HT, basically were back to normal and a reminder to parents to follow the rules properly and not congregate.Lots of PSHE over the next few days as well.

Not sure how I feel tbh so am going to enjoy my fondue and hope 2021 eventually has a light at the end of the tunnel.

Fossie · 31/12/2020 20:09

Surely no teaching staff are actually going to test students? If you find even one positive student you will then have to declare contact so can’t teach yourself. Equally any other member of staff.

Saucery · 31/12/2020 20:13

Noooo, Fossie, then you just take your own set of useless Lf tests and wait and see if you are positive, ever.

flumposie · 31/12/2020 20:19

@SaltyAF none of my family show any concern ( perhaps my mum a bit) . If they were enduring what we do I'd be outraged. One family member was pretty vile over the summer. They will be getting the vaccine soon as they work for the NHS ( receptionist) yet I'm the one who has been in contact most with the virus. Infuriating.

(That’s me, btw)

Monkeytennis97 · 31/12/2020 20:26

@noblegiraffe hilarious!!😂😊

Saucery · 31/12/2020 20:27

Don’t read your own reviews, noble, that way madness lies! Shock

GuyFawkesDay · 31/12/2020 20:30

Oh my god that thread 🤪

Happy new year all. This year had better be less crazy.....

We are teaching any kids in (KW kids etc) in the normal classes and rooms whilst broadcasting on teams too.

It's going to be carnage. But not my decision or responsibility. I'll do as I'm told!!

@SaltyAF

Am I just an awful person or is anyone else really struggling with the lack of support from friends who have the privilege of working from home? It doesn't feel like they have any concern for me at all. I'm pathetic aren't I?
If you're pathetic, so I am I.
DecemberStar · 31/12/2020 20:35

That Royal London letter to staff. HOW CAN THE GOVERNMENT DARE TO KEEP SCHOOLS OPEN?

Sorry. Cross. I mean "dare" in the literal sense too - if, in a couple of weeks, thousands are dying each day, including children, Boris is not going to be able to joke and ruffle his hair through that, is he?

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 20:35

I need to find this thread now!

noblegiraffe · 31/12/2020 20:41

Sorry Herc, it’s gone already. But here’s the best bit.

Right I'm going to wish everyone on here a Happy New Year!!! Thank you all for the support since I joined you on here on about thread 10 I think, particularly to do with my beautiful vulnerable DS. We were so so lucky to have him home at Christmas, it really was the best part of 2020 for us and a dream come true after hearing about the bloody next day tier 4 on the 19th (which we heard on the radio as DH and I were driving around delivering presents to other disabled children on behalf of DS's old respite centre). It truly was the best present ever to have him home.

I wish you all a healthy and happier 2021 and thank you all for your online friendship xx

DecemberStar · 31/12/2020 20:41

What thread?? Am confused!

Also I had no idea what the pink logo and Victoria Wood refs were. But I will survive.

Cooking our NYE /Christmas sometimes tradition, a galette des rois. All starred when a primary French teacher suggested my DS's class make them for homework. We did, it was divine. Sugar!!!! Forgot to put the sixpence (OK five pence) in! Shock

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 20:52

Omg that's one thread!

This was the best post today imo, on the dfe thread. Had me giggling for ages.

Happy new year all. Thanks for the hand holding and rants. Brace for 21 🍷

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 20:53

Ooooh! Might try that!

Saucery · 31/12/2020 20:54

Goodnight monkeytennis. ❤️

I’m also off. We ended up not watching Joker after all and my gin cocktail tasted like cough medicine so I knocked that on the head and had a nice cup of tea and the best Victoria Sponge I’ve ever made
I’ve never been one for NYE so I’ll go to bed, read Shuggie Bain (loads of tits, some truly hideous men and the odd flash of lyrical brilliance) and wake up grumpily when the fireworks start at midnight. DS will be just getting into his online chat stride by then so I’ll get him to make me a cup of tea.

Thank you all for a brilliantly uplifting series of threads this year. Flowers

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 20:54

(In repsponse to *I'm ridiculously excited - I followed him, - and - he followed me back?!

As you were..*) !

flumposie · 31/12/2020 20:57

@noblegiraffe that deleted thread was both anger inducing and hilarious.
Happy new year everyone. See you on the other side. (2021)

SaltyAF · 31/12/2020 20:58

Thanks for letting my wallow comrades. I'm off to play an escape room. May your new year not be utterly shit.

DecemberStar · 31/12/2020 21:00

There's another that noble and I (preens- claiming to be a close associate, not a mere fan girl!) have popped into, re LFTs and NHS. But they don't actually seem interested in schools, which is slightly surprising considering this is Mumsnet....

Always wonder what proportion of people on here aren't mums.

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 31/12/2020 21:01

Time to open the gin. I am impressed with Noble's stealth campaign to close schools, regularly repeating "I don't want schools to close" must be an effective reverse technique! Supposed to be dieting but food seems to go well with gin Blush

Hercwasonasnowball · 31/12/2020 21:02

😂 Noble that thread is ridiculous.

Happy New year all. Thanks for the support and shared frustration. Sleep well and 2021 will be better!

Keepdistance · 31/12/2020 21:05

Dr Clarke added: 'It's all very well vaccinating everybody over 65 and other people with long term health conditions, but the average of admission to intensive care is 60 and there are more men in their 40s in ICU with Covid than there are over-85s.'

Surely the solution is to offer it privately maybe at the point where over 65s have been done or over 60s? So that will speed it up. But ensuring there is the supply for them etc.

I dont think the oxford one is as hard to administer so pharmacies etc..
