You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@CountDuckulasCranberrySauce

Anyone else got masses of keyworker kids in? About 10% of the school, including quite a lot of ks4 and some ks5...
That will probably be down to Gav saying they would all receive f2f teaching. Where as those at home wouldn’t unless y11 / 13.
Cantaloupeisland · 31/12/2020 19:08

And of course the numbers will be much lower tomorrow as only England is reporting, followed by a weekend so all the idiots will be going look the numbers are dropping, it's fine!

PandemicPavalova · 31/12/2020 19:08

Well done Haringey.

I am, very good point, this is all about attendance figures and nothing about safety.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 31/12/2020 19:12

@NeurotreeWenceslas

Clear as mud.

So staff in primary Sen can be tested but not pupils?

Weekly screening or only if in contact? Daily LfT if in contact?

Wtf.

Probably cos I teach in special but I need concrete examples 🤣

PandemicPavalova · 31/12/2020 19:14

Mr sour berry (sp).. The undertaker in Oliver...

Remind anyone??

noblegiraffe · 31/12/2020 19:15

Oh wow.

Our favourite band of harpies has banded together with another group of nutters called ‘The Recovery Group’. Basically lockdown sceptics.

Guess what they want? Lateral flow tests to replace isolation of close contacts for NHS staff

Are we the guinea pigs?

hedgehogger1 · 31/12/2020 19:24

My forehead has suddenly gone really spotty. I look a mess. Anyone know anything good for shifting spots

MrsHamlet · 31/12/2020 19:25

A balaclava?
Tea tree oil dabbed on - but it dries your face up

SansaSnark · 31/12/2020 19:26

Has anyone actually heard anything from their schools with regards to testing?

Our head and a deputy have emailed today about remote learning (just to let us know what is expected, not to ask us to do any work) but the head has made it clear he doesn't really know what is going on with testing yet!

I know there is the government guidance, but that can't be put into practice if e.g. no tests are delivered. Apparently, we expect a delivery on Monday, but no word on how many!

cornercupboard · 31/12/2020 19:26

My DCs school has been in touch. Remote learning from Monday for 2 weeks, while they get testing capacity sorted so all staff and y11/13 can have lateral flow test from 11 Jan. They have a marquee already and have asked for parent volunteers, will be in touch with consent forms ASAP.

My school - nada. But then I'm primary so magic line applies. Hmm

Brilliant

Let’s hope the nhs staff fight back against that. They seem to have louder people than we do in their ranks.

Freederm is amazing and available from all good Tier 4 essential supermarkets!
Saucery · 31/12/2020 19:34

Oh Lancashire. Did you really mean to evoke the spirit of Barry And Freda? Literally No One thinks of Nike or Cole Porter, I can guarantee it. But being beaten on the bottom with a Women’s Weekly is preferable to being made to work in an unsafe environment, I’ll give you that.

Saucery · 31/12/2020 19:41

Lancashire Police just shared an inspirational post with that as the logo. I’m just soooooo done with this year Grin Grin 🤦‍♀️

SaltyAF · 31/12/2020 19:42

Am I just an awful person or is anyone else really struggling with the lack of support from friends who have the privilege of working from home? It doesn't feel like they have any concern for me at all. I'm pathetic aren't I?

No I get it. It's caused big rows with my parents as they can't see why DH and I are worried. Neither can my siblings. Fortunately most of my friends are teachers or doctors anyway so they get it. Bollocks to being unmumsnetty, here's a hug x

Nope-I’m the same.

My parents and in laws are worse tbh. People who never have to leave the house spewing loudly about teachers needing to ‘think of the children’ can sod right off.

Loshad · 31/12/2020 19:49

Hugs Salty
No idea how many kw kids we are getting, the letter to parents sent today just said let us know asap if you need a spot

GleamingBaubles · 31/12/2020 19:50

@NeurotreeWenceslas

This will be the year's meme
I'm ridiculously excited - I followed him, - and - he followed me back?! Grin

Ha ha! It's in my head now! One of the beat songs ever! Grin
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/12/2020 19:53

@RigaBalsam yes, that was the story, although the mirror seem to have beaten ITV to breaking it.

My mates get it. One WhatsApp group is currently discussing a fire of ministers. You know who is on top.

I did got told to be brave back in June, by someone who was proudly boasting about having not left the house at all since Feb. We are no longer in touch.

namechangedyetagain · 31/12/2020 20:00

I have stepped away from SM today, but wanted to pop back to wish you a very happy new year, in case I'm not still awake at 12 (wine and covid permitting).

I will be so BLOODY PROUD to be able to call myself a teacher in June 🙏. Fingers crossed we all get through next term relatively unharmed. You have honestly got me through my first placement and for that I'll be forever thankful and I have Y2 coming up FlowersGinWine
