Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

@Foxyloxy1plus1

I’m so pleased to hear you’ve had some respite myothercar. It was particularly worrying that the site disappeared just when you were getting some support, or at least, some listening ears.

When the posts reach 1000 on here, a new thread will have to be started I believe. It is good to know that some folk have found their way here.

Thanks Foxy. I don't think I realised at the time just how stressful it has all been. I'v certainly been resting and enjoying the calm. We saw him on Christmas night (a one off as they are not routinely allowing visitors) and he was calm but asked to go back to the ward when we explained that we couldn't take him home. Posters on TES were invaluable when talking to the police thoughand it was really helpful just to gather my thoughts and see what others thought about the situation. I couldn't, for one reason or another, talk to people in real life about it. Such a shame if all that is lost now.
LittleRedMan · 30/12/2020 02:47

I think you're right, TES personals not fitting the editorial brief.

But let's hope it will be back it was a huge source of relief for us teachers.

Happy Christmas and new year everybody.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. Yes it does seem like TES have washed their hands of us. How fucking rude!

I think this expresses it well:

RoyBatty · 30/12/2020 07:27

As soon as the link to Community disappeared from the main site, it was curtains for Community.
Money is the root of all evil. Sponsors, including the DfE, would be very unhappy at the stories about total incompetence in schools and government. The constant stream of teachers describing the conditions in schools flew in the face of every bojo press conference. So in true fascist style, free speech was the first casualty. The message had to be controlled.
I miss Community.

@BG2015

This is the Facebook page I'm on. Diddydaves real name is David Fountain and he posts on here sometimes with retirement/pension issues.
Thanks- I’ve just joined!!
mantlepiece · 30/12/2020 07:59

I wonder if the NEU or similar would host a forum on their website?

stamfordbridge · 30/12/2020 10:25

I didn't realise how much iId miss it.
I read stuff, and think, 'Oh, I'll just post about that' - and realise I can't.
Living alone, Personal was my daily 'conversation'.

Trying to let it go, but still feeling pretty angry about the way it was just closed with no one having time to exchange details, save useful info, etc.

Same here.
starrynight2 · 30/12/2020 11:17

Me too. Sounds silly, but it feels like good friends just disappeared overnight. I'm still angry at the way it was done.

It's not silly at all.

I keep seeing stuff on the news and think "can't wait to see what people on TES say about that!" and then,I remember that it's not there.

I even miss "the shouty boys"!

catmothertes1 · 30/12/2020 12:12

I did Bauble's quizz on Xmas day and felt annoyed that I could not post my score as we all promised we would.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 30/12/2020 13:37

It felt a bit like walking into the staff room and wishing everyone a good morning and chatting about the bits and pieces of the day.

asnac · 30/12/2020 14:50

Hello folks, just checking in. Good to see some familiar handles.

Hello folks, just checking in. Good to see some familiar handles.
I hope you cannot see my lockdown handles-I am now 3 stone heavier than I was last March.

Dear all
Just to update, having pestered TES to find out what is going on, I have finally wrested out of somebody at TES that yes, the Community will be returning but they do not know when.
So yes, it is piece of string, but nobody knows how long it is.

Murs · 30/12/2020 15:06

I agree, I am really missing the TES community forums and like others have said feel like I’ve lost some friends. I do hope it comes back and I do agree that the DfE had something to do with it being shut down while all their crappy mismanagement of the virus and schools is ongoing. They don’t want the general public to know what is really happening in schools across the UK.

Bebinn · 30/12/2020 16:11

@Hexadelica Thanks for Sharing the news that TES Community will definitely be returning. I can imagine that one of the first threads on Personal after it returns will be one full of outraged posts about it vanishing.

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 30/12/2020 16:12

I think TES also lost its way when it came to selling resources. If you looked hard enough some resources were free and someone else trying to sell the same resource for a couple of quid. I hated it when people were/are clearly ripping off other peoples or exam board work and charging for it.

stamfordbridge · 30/12/2020 16:23

@Hexadelica That's great news - we'll just have to keep -pestering- sorry, asking, if it takes too long.

Oh balls. I put little asterisks around that sentence and it came out in bold. Looks a bit harsh and threatening now!

Sorry, @stamfordbridge

That really annoyed me, when TES were trying to monetise on the back of a vast libary of resources that I and other teachers had shared freely. And it was also pointless, as you could get so much free, and if you were prepared to pay you would probably go to Twinkl. I suppose they were trying to replicate Twinkl's success.

There was something else too, a couple of years before that. They were heavily promoting some sort of online organiser. I can't remember the name of it any more and can't look it up of course. It would hold all your lesson plans and resources and calendar. You would have to pay a subscription to use it. They were clearly unaware that people were tied to existing school systems, or already had their own (free) systems. That quietly died.

Maybe this closure of the community is TES preparing for some new attempt to derive a revenue stream.

singsingbluesilver · 30/12/2020 16:50

Oh God the paid for online resources. there were some really helpful things on there, and I put some on for free myself. But the stuff you have to pay for - much of it a rip off of other people's work.

I had a couple of colleagues who thought that they did not need to plan lessons but instead spent a small fortune of their own money on the TES stuff. It really was a pile of rubbish in the main.

I also think that’s when the rot set in. It coincided with the beginnings of the big push for schools to become academies or join MAT’s.
