Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

*More tight-knit place where you got to know posters

catmothertes1 · 27/12/2020 19:53

@Foxyloxy1plus1

I think it’s probably gone and I think it’s very poor form that it happened with no warning. There were the shouty boys and the rude ones, but there were people who genuinely wanted advice and support and they e been left without.
I fear that too but I'm hoping! I can't believe they would have shut it down with no warning and no time to say goodbye.
Scumble · 27/12/2020 23:24

I was mid 2000s to early 2010s on TES.

I remember those posters previously mentioned, and a stonkingly brilliant troll - something to do with a citrus cardie?

Shame it's down Sad

@catmothertes1

I hope it comes back. I've been missing it so much. I don't remember ever it being down for maintenance at Christmas!
Me too. It's horrible if they've removed it without warning. It hasn't given people any opportunity to establish means of contacting each other outside the boards to maintain support.
spanieleyes · 28/12/2020 08:07

Similar questions on Tes Facebook, but no answers!

PriscillaChinchilla · 28/12/2020 08:12

Hi to those whose poster names are similar to their Tes ones and those like me who were regular Tessers but with different names on here! I don't know how I stumbled acros this thread but I did. I keep wanting to post things on Tes, and then I remember that the site's been "down for maintenance" for days. I can live without Tes (it's a habit) but I am a bit peed off that there was no warning as there are posters on there I would have liked to say "so long" to. Just rude, eh?

PriscillaChinchilla · 28/12/2020 08:16

@rc22

I agree. Even if it is only down temporarily, it's a bad time to do it. Some posters may have been relying on Tes community to see them through Christmas alone.

I tend to use mumsnet more now but I think Tes is a slightly warmer, safer place and a more where you got to know posters.

Yep, this. There are a lot of people, including Tessers who are alone right now, and hurting. Tes (personal) had it's dark side, but in my experience, support - even if it was just a virtual pat on the back - was always there for those in need.
CJFJ1 · 28/12/2020 08:40

Agree with all the above. If this is a permanent closure of the TES Community forums, they've chosen a very bad time to do it, for those of us who find Christmas and New Year a tough time, not least this year.

reefedsail · 28/12/2020 08:44

The TES is increasingly up the DfE's backside. They haven't liked the community forums giving teachers their own voice for years because it reflects on the them. 'Opinions' was the first thing they culled in the Big Change because people shared, well, opinions. As we all know, teachers are not allowed those. If we actually started egging each other on instead of sitting subserviently in our classrooms, that could be very dangerous.

CJFJ1 · 28/12/2020 08:48

Playing devil's advocate for a moment, but could it really be that the TES forums are down for "maintenance"? If they have been taken down permanently, wouldn't you get a "404 error" type of message come up?

Bebinn · 28/12/2020 09:16

Hi to you too Smile. I totally agree on the ‘just rude’ comment. Maybe a few more Tessers are also mn’ers and will post on here, even if their names are different.

It's possible, isn't it? Maybe it's temporary, but I can't remember the site (never mind a single forum) being down this long. We'll see.
BG2015 · 28/12/2020 10:07

Diddydave thinks it might be temporary as there was talk about upgrading/changing the forums but that was put on hold because of Covid

Let's hope so

Was looking for a "thumbs up" emoji, but well - thumbs up anyway!

Hi
Belatedly Merry Christmas to those who I could not "meet" on Christmas Day.
Just joined Mumsnet specifically to respond here.
This is not my username on TES
I recognise some of you!
I have been slightly bereft at not being able to see what people are up to.
I contacted the generic "help" email at TES, and have been told that the platform that host the Community needed some urgent and critical work in order to ensure it was in line with compliance levels elsewhere on the site. I am also told that this work has turned out to be "greater than expected".
This response is a bit ambiguous. It does not actually say if the forums will be reinstated, although it does not say they have been taken down.
It does match what some have suggested, that it does not "fit" the site sponsors.
So I have replied to that very nice TES person and asked "Are the forums going to be brought back"
Because "if" is more important than "when" at this stage.
So I'll keep you all updated on that, and wish all regulars on here well, despite feeling like a square TES peg in a round Mumsnet hole by being here!

I feel bereft too as I've spent so much time on TES in the last 20 years! I keep looking to see if it's back!

Like you,Mumsnet is not a natural environment and it feels alien.

RoyBatty · 28/12/2020 13:50

I am a TESer and this is not my TES name.

Changing a domain takes a minute. The "greater than expected" message can only mean wholesale changes. There might be a gdpr issue with just deleting all of the fora. After all, we all had to register to gain access to the fora.

The lack of traffic on Community meant it´s days were numbered, I believe.

Hello there,

This is my first post here as this came up when I was looking for Community... we appear to have lost the teachers community and like others I have found it helpful to my career and various other aspects of life over the years... *around 16 years to be precise.

You aren't wrong about another site, it's in progress and I will keep you up to date with how it is going and will be sure to let you know of the launch date, a network for teachers is born!

Any tips and hints welcomed, hopefully we can avoid the glitches and negativity of the past and move forward in an innovative yet grass roots manner to support both serving and retired teachers.

Best,
NAB

Hello there,

I am new to Mumsnet as this came up when I was looking for TES Community... we appear to have lost the teachers community and like others I have found it helpful to my career and various other aspects of life over the years... *around 16 years of my decades of teaching to be precise.

I feel somewhat bereft of Community like others have stated, yet another site is being developed as I type, I will keep you up to date with how it is going and will be sure to let you know of the launch date, a network for teachers is born from the loss that has arisen over this Christmas period.

Any tips and hints are most welcomed, hopefully we can avoid the glitches and negativity of the past and move forward in an innovative yet grass roots manner to support both serving and retired teachers.

*I posted something similar in response to someones post, this is unfamiliar territory to me too :/ that said I am pleased to have found you guys :D

Best,
NAB

Neededabreak · 28/12/2020 14:32

Ooops, like I said this is new territory to me and it shows.
