Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

@HebeMumsnet

Evening, all, and welcome to any new Mumsnetters. We just wanted to pop by with a reminder of our guidelines as we know there are a few new members here, who might not have had time to read them yet.

Although we don't expressly rule it out in the guidelines, generally it's considered not really cricket to drag disagreements etc from thread to thread, or site to site, and especially not to out other Mumsnet posters in their guises from other sites. We're deleting a few posts now, but we'd really appreciate it if we could get this thread back on track now.

If you have any questions about the site or our guidelines, please do just drop us a line via the report button. We're always happy to help if we can.

Thanks Flowers

Thanks, Hebe. You make a good point but the difficulty seems to be that the person running the new forum in question seems to be unanswerable to criticism. The forum is promoted as a warm and welcoming place, which is important because a significant number of users of the now-closed TES forums were in clear need of support for a variety of reasons ranging from isolation to fear of job loss and fear of the virus. If such people are to be enticed with promises of a warm welcome, only to be banned on a whim, it is likely to be seriously damaging to mental health.

It is difficult to know what to do. Perhaps a complaint to the company hosting the forum might be more appropriate? Or may be we should assume that the administrator concerned is simply too inexperienced for the role she has given herself, and will hopefully improve over time?

Maybe @Florianus, the time is for you (or one of those other former TESSERs who criticise the new Forum here) to start your own board and stop carping at the other forum?

The game of Rugby has lasted, thrived even, with 2 distinct 'codes' for over a century, why not try the same approach?

Florianus · 25/01/2021 09:25

I am not so much "carping" at the new forum, as pointing out to those who were told that it is "warm and welcoming" that they have been misled.

I don't take online forums so seriously that I want to start my own! I already belong to several (music and transport) that don't suffer from the moderation agonies that seem to beset educational forums.

Well I am already looking into the best method to making a formal complaint. The behaviour I received amounts to bullying in my opinion.

Given the number of members (694), even if a handful (and it has only been a handful) have been excluded, the fact is that the vast majority, over 99%, have not. The number "welcome" is far greater as compared to those whose presence was found to be disruptive.

Like any club, when one joins it is possible to find it isn't the right one for you, and you find your visits tail off. We saw the same on the TES site.

NB If not you, perhaps one of the other ex-TESSERs posting many times here criticising the new forum from outside might set up their own? Or are they just keen on stirring up ill feeling? Something it has been made clear by the mods here is unacceptable.

CircusKevin · 25/01/2021 09:37

Many thanks for greetings!

I have busied myself recently clearing ivy from a slightly dishevelled play area at the top of my road. Outside work ideal in this covid era. I get to talk to passers by too. One lady had her daughter make me couple of the masks.

Such a disappointment the old forum has been pulled.

Florianus · 25/01/2021 09:44

@Weald56, in what sense was my "presence found to be disruptive"? As far as I can see, the administrator of the forum just bans people without explanationl.

As I've said before I'm not an administrator, nor do I speak for anyone other then myself. I'm posting here to offer an alternative (and I'd say corrective) viewpoint to a number of posters.

I'd be surprised if you were not given any reasons though.

Of course you would be, you're presumably still posting freely. Wait until you're accused by the administrator of being a troll and finding the black "BANNED" sign across your screen, with NO warning whatsoever. I find your tone somewhat sneering. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I sense that you are enjoying this.

I'm posting here to offer an alternative (and I'd argue objective) point of view. I am certainly not sneering.

Why not put your significant energy and interest into starting another forum for ex-TESSERs then, @Kandahar?

@farqueue21

You are not given a warning. You are not given a reason. You have been told this now several times. If Voldemort doesn't like you it's goodnight Vienna.
Calling someone 'Voldemort' doesn't sound very polite. Hmm

For what it's worth, I have looked at the posts you posted on the other forum (except for those deleted, obviously), and whilst I won't cut & paste all of them here, I will one below - which after you were involved in a "debate" with other posters led to some being deleted, you questioned that and were told:

"5 posts. Not even an Hello or interaction except to engage/create arguments, I see. Banned."

Now it sounds to me you WERE given a reason, and some of the previous posts could also be said to be a warning.

As I said, I'm not an administrator nor speak for them. But I want to correct inaccuracies.

Apologies for poor grammar and misspellings. There/their, missing brackets etc

farqueue21 · 25/01/2021 10:26

Yes not saying hello is sufficient reason to be banned. The argument was disputing whether Trump sent his fans to attack the US Capitol as one poster claimed. This was misinformation. Misinformation is allegedly against the forum rules.

Perhaps it was as much about how you posted as what you actually said?
