Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

OP posts:

@MonicaBilongame

My apologies Kandahar and Florian - I should have said 'all the posters whose posts I had seen who have been banned'... and I've personally never had any issue with you Kandahar.

Fact remains that Emily is the final arbiter. If it had been me and I'd really wanted to stay I'd have asked for time and space to prove myself...

How on earth can one ask for more time and space? It is impossible to post to either the forum or to Emily once she has decided to suppress the opinion of anyone she dislikes or whose views don't accord with her own.

It really isn't being run as a normal discussion group. As I have said before, Ms Strange is running the forum as her own appreciation society and for that reason I do not believe that it will have a long-term future. For there to be discussion, it is no good taking a Trump-like attitude by trying to dismiss contrary views.

Hello everyone - we're just dropping in to say we're getting a number of reports about this thread as several posts are discussing one person. It's pretty difficult for us to moderate based on disagreements on other sites and so we're asking that you refrain from naming individuals here. Thank you.

farqueue21 · 23/01/2021 12:05

Now this is how it works. A little civility and friendly warning that something is amiss. On another site I could mention I would have been greeted with a "you are banned" screen. Well done Mumsnet.

@MonicaBilongame " If it had been me and I'd really wanted to stay I'd have asked for time and space to prove myself." If its core membership itself did not cinch it then its early authoritarian moderation proves the enclave forum is a space not worth the investment of any reasonable person's free time.

Thank you, Becky. Organised campaigns of Reporting & emailing are one of the factors which did for TES Community so I am glad for your pro-active stance to preserve the good atmosphere of Mumsnet and its Staffroom. Have a good weekend.
Kandahar · 23/01/2021 12:36

Hear hear.

Several topics became taboo on account of that sort of behaviour, and it's certainly good to see that this thread remains free for any discussion.

Where is the new board? I can’t find it! I used The TES community boards so much in the early stages of my teaching career, but only intermittently for the last few years. So surprised when I tried to find it a few days ago and saw that the tab had been removed!

DrLinus · 23/01/2021 13:56

"Where is the new board? I can’t find it!"
The Mumsnet Staffroom here is the best alternative for all displaced by the wrecking of the TES Community, and many of us are here.
The wreckers have tied together some flotsam and think it a galleon but it is not worth the swim.
Pirates, all playing at captain.

The TES Community was not 'wrecked' - that's a pretty good example of the sort of inaccurate post that did spoil many threads there.

For the record what the TES said was this:

"You may have noticed that Community has been under maintenance for the past few weeks. This was due to some essential work to ensure that this separate platform was in line with the compliance standards of the rest of Tes.

This work raised several other issues and as a result, we wanted to let you know that Community will not be returning.

Today, there is a need, greater than ever before, to ensure security, safety, data integrity and reliability. The nature of the Community platform, its set-up, and how it has evolved, has made this a bigger and bigger challenge. Of course, engagement and interaction is still available through our many other channels.

Community has been part of the Tes website for several years. However, we have also seen that as people engage with information differently, fewer and fewer people are using Community. At the same time, we have seen more and more subscribe to other information sources, such as newsletters and websites, or simply engage with us and others through our social media channels.

Forum platforms like Community also come with justifiable legal and ethical responsibilities. This means that every comment and every subject on Community rightly comes with an expectation for Tes to ensure compliance. Over recent years, this has become increasingly difficult for us to support and so it risks some conversations moving from heathy debate into potentially offensive territory.

The combination of these factors means it simply isn’t viable to maintain Community going forward.

We know that there were still a number of people that used this forum on a regular basis, and we hope that through our other channels we can still offer you the opportunity to engage and support each other in the same way.

Of course, although this facility may be closing, it doesn’t mean that we aren’t looking at how we can host this kind of engagement again in the future, using new technology and a fresh approach.

Thank you for the many conversations".

Ugh. An extended metaphor.

DrLinus · 23/01/2021 14:18

An accurate metaphor.

SalVolatilly · 23/01/2021 14:21

Linus, Kandahar and Florian, all grown men, squabbling, whining and moaning like boys in a playground, badmouthing others, as usual, because they can't have what they want, which is to disrupt the new forum. If only they realised how idiotic they are making themselves look.

Janegrey333 · 23/01/2021 14:22

@DrLinus

An accurate metaphor.
No. See the TES statement.
DrLinus · 23/01/2021 14:23

@Weald56

What did you expect TES to say?
"You rotten lot are more expense than you are worth, now clear off!"

Companies which condemn their customers do not do well.

PriscillaChinchilla · 23/01/2021 14:29

One or more of the disgruntled are reporting the links to the other place and the links are being removed from this thread. If anyone is asking where the new board is, it's maybe worth PMing (if anyone can be arsed.)

Nobody is squabbling or moaning. Simply pointing out that the forum concerned is not being run as a warm and friendly discussion group as some of its members have been led to believe.

What they say carries more weight than your invention.

There is absolutely no evidence to support your claims as to why TES decided to close the Community Forums - it is pure invention (or, as the disgraced ex-POTUS would say 'fake news') 😉

Florianus · 23/01/2021 14:34

@SalVolatilly, why on earth do you claim that I want to "disrupt the new forum"? What did I post there which suggests such a thing?

Brian35 · 23/01/2021 14:36

Why aren't you all discussing all those things that you want to discuss?

Instead you're whining like babies.

Worse than your hero Trump.

@Riverganges

You see quoted above the kind of content which slowly bled the TES Community with escalating moderation and legal costs, offensive interaction typical of the members of the enclave forum.
The actual forum itself, of course, is unseen by most members and consists of private messages between its admins, mods and their friends. Everyone else is simply there as an eventual revenue source.

If you are looking for a TES alternative, a positive place run by positive people, then here is the place for you, the Mumsnet Staffroom.

I hope you are well.

If you are asking why we are not discussing educational matters here, it is because I don't think a single thread in mumsnet is the right vehicle for such discussion. It needs a dedicated educational forum with separate sections for early years, junior, senior, separate academic subjects, themes such as pensions, overseas working, independent schools and so on.
DrLinus · 23/01/2021 14:42

@PriscillaChinchilla

It is bad manners to spam other fora with links intended to poach members. Also against the rules. You like rules, yes?
DrLinus · 23/01/2021 14:45

@Florianus

The Mumsnet Staffroom is wider than this single thread:

Hi @DrLinus - I never interacted with you on Tes, because I thought and still think you're dodgy. I'm not going to interact with you here either.
