Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

ilovesooty · 22/01/2021 19:27

How have you been discriminated against because the moderators deemed your manner of posting not in the spirit of the forum rules?

Iloveboris · 22/01/2021 21:00

Surely a yellow card system is better than towing a certain party line?

Neededabreak · 22/01/2021 21:39
**@Florianus* I apologise again for the way you have been treated because I honestly thought only the 'baddies' were thrown out and you are far from it. Your being ousted signifies there is something wrong and I am more determined now to see an alternative teachers website. I questioned before, when @Neededabreak* proposed a teachers' website, who moderates the moderators and their reesponse was getting paid moderators in, who would, hopefully be impartial and let's hope, tell people what wrongdoings they have done, give them a warning, rather than oust them, leaving them wondering for the rest of their lives what it could have been.
@Fadeyushka apologises too. I am hearing of this for the first time today and it has sullied my opinion of the site.

Let's hope we can keep this thread open and open another one, as suggested, until another teachers site becomes available.
Hello again,

I would like to point out that as someone who you probably recognise as often sitting on the fence or attempting to on TES, my idea for the teacher network site idea came about before Emily's site was launched not in spite of it and I was pleased she did it as it fills a void.

The teacher network was something I was considering when the issues with TES became apparent and before they even closed at Christmas, although that was admittedly an opportune time for me to investigate further.

During my R&D I came across some interesting research and will be contacting the author in this regard as I knew that person some time ago, I am hoping we can collaborate on the site to ensure usability and usefulness for all interested educators.

I just wanted to clarify that.

"I was intimidated by 2 or 3 posters on the first thread, finally ending with Emily Strange popping up with this patronising post: "That's absolutely not how things work here. Debates and conversations, not dropping opinions in then refusing to engage."
I think she'd been alerted by those who took umbrage with me earlier."

It sounds like a delightful forum.
I have no doubt that in no time at all they will have teachers the length & breadth of the country paying monthly subscriptions for the privilege of being treat like a toddler.

"For some reason people were suggesting I am someone called Vince"

Sooner or later everyone gets to be misidentified as "Vince".
A notorious Lothario from what I gather, nevertheless much in demand by the TES cougars.

@ilovesooty

Why would someone want to complain about a forum from which they have been banned but where hundreds of people are happy to have regained contact? Why would anyone be so spiteful?
Yes. Banning people is spiteful.
Hoppysue · 22/01/2021 23:24

Apparently a sub-group of the former TES Community membership has created a brand spanking new enclave forum for themselves which is so friendly & inclusive that they are banning people left, right & centre and then following them to Mumsnet to harass haughtily.
manchestermyself · 23/01/2021 02:29
@Zoorhik I certainly didn't like the way certain individuals were treated and driven off the site and the fact that the only people reporting people were usually the baddies Sad. Pity it had to descend into what it did and there wasn't a pre-announced last day. But if was closed due to a compliance issue, then they had no other choice other than to act fast.
What do you mean 'compliance issues?'. I emailed their customer services to ask about that, during the time it was down for 'planned maintenance', they never got back to me with an explanation. Did they not like some posters slagging off the government? Do the Tories have any links with TES? Or did they not like some negative comments made about Kier Starter, do Labour have anything to do with TES? Was there a problem with criticism of OFSTED? Do OFSTED have some back channel input into TES? Who knows?

The bottom line is this, the timing was incredibly bad. Worst of all, with no pre-warning (just a weekend would have done), TES members could not archive their contributions, nor safeguard their contacts. Since closure, people have made applications to access to their TES material under GDPR regulations, but have been told there is no chance, because after the community was shut down, all the data was erased. So that is twenty years of educational advice, tips, support and discussion across all aspects of UK teaching, gone, at the press of a button. BY WHOM?

And to top it all, this action from an organisation that 'claims' to be a leading supporter of teachers and the UK education system as a whole!

Now this is a 'compliance issue' that I'd like some answers to....

@staymotivated

I personally like reading alternative viewpoints and I think it is healthy to go onto websites, read articles etc. that are contrary to your views just to get an inkling of what people are saying. The problem however is that too many people on all sides of the spectrum are reading solely from sources that support their extremist views and have a warped sense of reality.

There are extremists on all sides of the political spectrum, looking out for vulnerable individuals to do their bindings. So I agree there has to be moderation of websites to prevent such things.

Being a pro Brexiters isn't that big a deal as the majority of the UK voted for it. However, constantly stating viewpoints that actively encourage discrimination against protected groups needs to be curbed.

I never recall reading anything from you, @Florianus that was like the latter and it's a pity you haven't been allowed in. I wonder how many people are aware of this. Hmm

Who’s to say a “certain viewpoint actively encourages discrimination?” Who ever said that on TES? Give us an example, because it’s those kind of weasel-words that reveal a mentality of censorship.

Why are people moaning about a site they don't want to be on?

Why not discuss what you want to discuss here instead?

It can be your Parler for Teachers.

Good morning all. A good 5 inches of snow at a thousand feet ASL in sunny Lancashire. I intend chopping more wood if I can find the strength.

"Why would anyone want to complain about a forum from which they have been banned"? Very funny. What would you expect them to do? Celebrate?

The forum won't last. Too boring. You need interesting characters like Kandahar, Alex and Florian. Most on the new site are boring and even the interesting ones dare not say anything controversial as they are liable to be given the heave ho by she who must be obeyed. You can only have so much talk about fluffy bunnies. I give it 12 month.

There is a thread on President Trump eighty pages long?
Sounds like bait to me.
The members of that site require fresh meat to stop them from tearing one another apart and I am in no hurry to supply them.
I wonder if all the Trump fanboys from TES still support him?

I'm not sure it is a case of moaning about the site as pointing out that a forum that increasingly appears to be run as a fan club for its moderator is unlikely to offer lasting appeal.

Whether or not it is possible to create a more realistic educational forum, I do not know. All I would say is that the TES forums were, in their earlier days, an enormous repository of advice and support. It was a great pity that TES management lost their way over the years.

spanieleyes · 23/01/2021 08:45

Whether the staffroom boards site has lasting appeal or not is surely down to whether it means the needs and expectations of those using it. If it doesn't meet yours, or indeed anyone's, then there are countless opportunities to set up an alternative and gather a group of like minded ( or just bloody minded!) members to join in. The staffroom boards site is a private one and as such the moderators are at liberty to set it up with the rules and regulations they want-even Mumsnet here has its own rules you agree to abide by when you join and will quite happily ban you if they feel these have been broached! The staffroom boards site was set up to support teachers and provide a space for like minded individuals to get together , not to replicate Tes.

"Be excellent to each other" is the Golden rule. Banning people for next to nothing is a transgression of that rule. People are being banned who have been a part of that community for years and they don't even know why they are being banned. Disgusting stuff.
spanieleyes · 23/01/2021 09:05

What is "that community"? The staffroom board is a NEW community, not a replication of an old one.

@farqueue21 is referring to people who had been members of the TES forum for years, but whom Queen Emily is now banning without reason. She's perfectly entitled to do so, of course, since Staffroom is her private domain, but it is never going to be a worthwhile discussion groups with that sort of approach. I've seen it all before. She'll gradually fall out with more and more people and the forum will wither.
