Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

@Weald56

DrLinus,

No-one I've read has said TES didn't have the right to close their forums - but that they did it without notice is unforgiveable, that they lied about it (the claim it was 'routine maintenance') suggests they are a shifty bunch, and the admission that they have deleted 20 years of posts illuminating as it points to a company with no decent morals.

'Friends Reunited' closed down AFTER a clear notice period and the opportunity to retrieve information from the site. Why didn't TES do the same?

It is only a website. I assure you that there are far better things to do with twenty years of life. It is my hope that this incident will stir people to discover these.

I am really enjoying reading this and am glad all the alternative right friends can meet up on this thread and have a rant.

I can't believe Florian was turned away from the new forum. Although I often didn't agree with what he said, he wasn't ever extremely rude, perhaps a little sarky at times, though. Wink

The thing is, after 1000 posts, I've read a thread has to close down on Mumsnet. I wonder if they'd consider creating a Teachernet for us?

As I said, it is actions like that which will see Emily Strange wreck the idea that she created. Few people will stay for long if she runs it as a personal fan club. She must learn that, as a moderator, she needs to accept that people will sometimes post things with which she does not agree. That is no reason to ban them.

I still don't know what it was that caused her to ban me. Perhaps it was because I said there would be a Brexit trade deal (which there was) and she was hoping there would not be, and that the economy would be wrecked even more than it already is. Who knows? Whatever it was, she clearly was afraid of it being discussed.

You just start a new one. And so on.

This is why your enclave will spiral into a backslapping irrelevance, because you define your positions as opposed to those whom, as with @Florianus, you exclude.
I am not surprised to see you confirm this.
Accept my commiserations for your membership of a forum where everyone agrees.

MrMucker · 22/01/2021 11:33

The TES forums was a shower of a place, way too much lefty bias. I got many of my posts deleted just because I posted something that the others did not agree with. I don't post often on mumsnet but I have spotted this thread and just want to say how good it is that people who the TES had issue with can still post on here exactly what they think.
Its all about freedom of speech, and I can see some good minds with careful thinking here who used to get really squashed on the TES. Really unfair on them and dangerous for free speech but its ok on here.

staymotivated · 22/01/2021 11:38

I personally like reading alternative viewpoints and I think it is healthy to go onto websites, read articles etc. that are contrary to your views just to get an inkling of what people are saying. The problem however is that too many people on all sides of the spectrum are reading solely from sources that support their extremist views and have a warped sense of reality.

There are extremists on all sides of the political spectrum, looking out for vulnerable individuals to do their bindings. So I agree there has to be moderation of websites to prevent such things.

Being a pro Brexiters isn't that big a deal as the majority of the UK voted for it. However, constantly stating viewpoints that actively encourage discrimination against protected groups needs to be curbed.

I never recall reading anything from you, @Florianus that was like the latter and it's a pity you haven't been allowed in. I wonder how many people are aware of this. Hmm

staymotivated · 22/01/2021 11:46

@DrLinus, @Florianus is a a veritable tree of knowledge on many matters pertaining to music education and that alone is a big reason why it's a huge pity to all, that he was excluded from the site. His political views have never been anything that have distressed or appalled me. However, I can not say that of others.Sad

Perhaps it was remembering that I normally vote Green (*) that so upset Ms Strange.

(*) I did actually say on the old TES forum that I couldn't do so in the last general election: because of the stitch-up between Greens and Lib Dems I had to bite my tongue and vote for the latter (who lost).

staymotivated · 22/01/2021 12:45

@Florianus gutted you've been evicted and I reiterate, I wonder how many people on the site know this as you were indeed a very popular poster. This news puts the new website in an extremely bad light.
@Neededabreak has thoughts of creating an alternative site, so let's hope we get something definitive on that in a few months when people have had a chance to see how this new website works. If you can be outed for doing nothing serious, then others are right, there will be no one there soon. I thought you had to say something really extremist or be seriously offensive to others, to get outed. It appears not to be the case which is a serious cause for concern.

Moderation, I mean, although it was more general admin really.

Janegrey333 · 22/01/2021 12:52

Regarding anti-teacher bias, I don’t think posters were ‘only’ considering this particular area of Mumsnet. Do have a look at AIBU before jumping to positive conclusions.

I see no evidence of bias against teachers here, only some parents fairly raising particular issues about their children's education. Teachers are not infallible.
Scaramooche · 22/01/2021 15:10

Haven’t really looked at other forums. Just dropped by here recently , looking for tes and have just been reading generally on this topic

Dr Linus I’m sure that referring to someone by their real name rather than their user name is a breach of T&C.

Exactly. Perhaps if it's been done in error he'll report his own post and ask for it to be removed.

I do not see anything in there. To whom did I refer by their real name?

@staymotivated, I have no idea if people on the Staffroom forum know that I have been banned. Unlike many such groups, it is not possible to log in as a guest to read, but not write, articles.

I get the impression, from a number of people who have said here that it is a warm and welcoming forum, that they may not have any idea what Ms Strange gets up to behind the scenes.

ilovesooty · 22/01/2021 16:10

@DrLinus you used the real first name of someone there. Do I have to spell it out? I charitably assumed it was an error.

A baseless charge.
I have identified nobody.

I have just been banned from the new forum that I only joined a couple of days ago. Apparently I was banned for 'refusing' to engage with other posters who requested that I back up my opinions with evidence or links. I kindly declined to do so - but got a stern message from a moderator that this is not the way to behave. I felt quite bullied by this behaviour, and as a woman in her late sixties have never been spoken to by another woman like this before. If there is a way of making a formal complaint to Proboards, I will be doing so.

Who said they were? Anyway, when you have been here for longer than five minutes, return with your evidence.
