Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

I'm not quite sure why MichaelMumsnet is being so welcoming to teachers when it seems to be ok on the rest of this site for anyone to be downright derogatory and nasty towards us without any comeback whatsoever. Perhaps if the moderation had been a little more even-handed on this site, there wouldn't have been the need for a staffroom board to be set up.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 21/01/2021 19:47

I’m glad there is a board that is supportive, friendly and helpful and I sincerely hope it stays that way and grows and evolves. There are people there who have wept with relief when they found the place where they can connect with their virtual friends.

This site is generally hostile to teachers.

2. Encouraging to hear you respond so positively to becoming aware of your absurdity. Glad to hear your lonely day was brightened.
  1. Of course it might have been pointed out that those toxic disruptors were not welcome. Lovely to see us in agreement that this was a clear consistent message.
  2. Grin
Regarding point #6, unfortunately there was a crowd of members at TES Community who were convinced that they owned those fora and decided that anyone who disagreed with them, established or newcomer, was a "toxic disruptor" and proceeded to attack & report them mercilessly & relentlessly, in organised campaigns. In so doing they themselves became "toxic disruptors" and, as we now see, fatally poisoned the Community. They ruined an excellent resource for many thousands of working & retired educational professionals around the world but I doubt they feel any shame.

From what I read here @stamfordbridge has created a rod for their own back by inviting these poisoners to colonise their leisure time.

It is a mystery of Clarkean proportions as to why your experience of Mumsnet is negative.

Thank you for your welcome, @MichaelMumsnet.

DrLinus · 21/01/2021 21:07

@Foxyloxy1plus, if you find this this forum hostile to teachers then, as you said, "the answer is not to read the threads that you don’t like".

singsingbluesilver · 21/01/2021 21:15

MN - one of the most anti teacher places I know. If MN wants to support teachers you might want to look at some of the posts that are allowed to stand o here. No thanks - I spend most of my time in 'the other place.'

DrLinus · 21/01/2021 21:19

@Kandahar
I do not know where Lexus is but I hope he is well, and I hope you are keeping well too.
I am undecided on whether to visit @stamfordbridge's new gaff.
I expect it to be populated with tyrannical biddies and their eunuchs.
There is a thread on President Trump eighty pages long?
Sounds like bait to me.
The members of that site require fresh meat to stop them from tearing one another apart and I am in no hurry to supply them.

I don’t.

DrLinus · 21/01/2021 22:05

@Foxyloxy1plus1

Then it cannot bother you.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 21/01/2021 22:27

It doesn’t. It’s very apparent that there is a bias against teachers here. Apparent from the threads that are posted about them. It’s just an observation and isn’t something I bother about.

I would not worry about it if I were you. I see no anti-teacher bias here. Certainly nobody here or anywhere is obliged to consider any of us as important as we might have felt ourselves to be while swimming the small, warm pond of the now poisoned TES Community, or elsewhere. Not everyone fits in at all fora. Perhaps there is somewhere else you might find yourself held in higher regard.
jubileetes · 22/01/2021 01:37

TES staffroom is definitely gone for good. They say that more issues came to light when they were doing compliance maintenance. Apparently there are fewer users now and more vetting neded on posts that turn abusive or contravene regs, so they've ditched it permanently.
As a regular user for 20 years, I am feeling abandoned, especially as this was done with no notice and no opportunity to make contact with others on the private messaging facility in order to swap email addresses etc.
I was annoyed when it disappeared suddenly at Xmas as there were members who were recently bereaved or were suffering other stresses and went onto the forums in the night, when feeling at their lowest, for support. I'm an insomniac and saw it as a positive use of my time to engage with fellow members when they needed someone to talk to.

LittleRedMan · 22/01/2021 07:37

@pastparticiple

Banning only if people break the rules. ( that some proudly proclaimed that hadn’t bothered to read them says it all about them and their intentions)
Yes yes yes, the righteousness need have nothing to fear, It's obvious that certain political views will not be tolerated. I was on TES site for years, and was never elavated beyond the status of "troll" in the myopic eyes of the terminally ideologically possessed.

It's also blatantly obvious that some obscenly obnoxious posters such as those who had an expired labour leader and alarm-clock as avatars were given a free pass by other posters, because of their politics.

Poor old Dumpty, gawd bless 'im had the patience of a siant given the trolling and scarely concealled contempt heaped upon him in the "so what now for Brexit" threads.

Good to see you Dr Linus and Kandahar.

I hope LEx puts in an appearance.

Tyranical biddies and their eunuchs!
Still got it, LOL

Kandahar · 22/01/2021 09:06

Good to see you all too:

"Tyranical biddies and their eunuchs!
Still got it, LOL"

just about sums up the situation regarding the demise of the old forum and the creation of their new safe haven.

Unfortunately I am unable to quote your post Dr Linus, but my very best commendations where you point out to Miss Sooty the very evident truth:

"Regarding point #6, unfortunately there was a crowd of members at TES Community who were convinced that they owned those fora and decided that anyone who disagreed with them, established or newcomer, was a "toxic disruptor" and proceeded to attack & report them mercilessly & relentlessly, in organised campaigns.

You have hit the nail on the head!

LittleRedMan · 22/01/2021 09:27

Reminds me of the red Dwarf episode when Rimmer moves in with himself

Weald56 · 22/01/2021 09:38

The crucial thing to remember is that TES closed their Community Forums without notice, though there were 'straws in the wind' which some posters did mention for about 2 or 3 weeks previously and predicted that this might be happening.

Since then a couple of TES posters have started a new forum which many former TESSERS have joined. Those posting here who don't want to join (or have joined and have transgressed their T&Cs) can always start their own forum, or post here. But there is no need to be rude about it - that really suggests sour grapes or a (not so) hidden agenda.

Surely the internet is big enough for more than one forum for current and former teachers?

Well Mr Weald, if we could have confidence that the moderation was any fairer on the new forum than the old, you might well have a point. As it is, it's fairly obvious (from a cursory glance at the rules, and a short reading of "Who's still missing"), that only selected posters with the right opinions are invited and likely to survive.

The internet is indeed big enough for more than one forum for current and former teachers. But surely as teachers, one forum ought to suffice for those who are amply educated.

Weald56 · 22/01/2021 10:07

I'm sure, Mr Kandahar, that you can apply to join the new Forum if you wish. I'm certainly not aware of any need to 'wait to be invited'.

Florianus · 22/01/2021 10:08

Kandahar, I can only agree with your comments about the new forum. I thought it was enterprising of the Strange woman to set it up, but her inexperience is all too evident and the perceived power has clearly gone to her head.

As soon as I had joined and posted a handful of innoccuous messages, she asked if I was Florian Gassman of the TES forum. As soon as I confirmed the obvious, she accused me of being a troll and banned me - me, a troll ! after getting some 20,000 "likes" for my TES posts and being a member for 16 years! No explanation from La Strange - perhaps I was not left-wing enough for her? Perhaps she was embarrassed when I complained about being called a troll? She did actually delete the phrase, but not before I and others had seen it.

Whatever the case, I found her administration of Staffroom unfriendly in the extreme. It's very sad that she has messed up what was potentially a good idea.

"Apparently there are fewer users now and more vetting neded on posts that turn abusive or contravene regs, so they've ditched it permanently."
I pointed out that the escalating cost of moderation would contribute to the demise of the TES Community but the Clique so lived for their scalp-hunting campaigns that they could not stop hitting the Report button.

"I was annoyed when it disappeared suddenly at Xmas"
Forget about it.
Nobody died and there are real causes for grief in this world, especially these days.
We are all disappointed that the TES Community has been fatally poisoned and I feel fellowship with most over this but I reserve my right to a little schadenfreude at those members who now feel some measure of what I and others endured during, in some cases, years of needless pre-moderation at the hands of the Clique.
I doubt they will be at all happy in the long term when they have run out of people to purge from their new enclave.
Until they turn on one another.

DrLinus · 22/01/2021 10:33

Thank you, @LittleRedMan & @Kandahar.
Always a pleasure to see familiar names and read your views.
The Red Dwarf analogy is particularly apt and had me laughing out loud.

DrLinus,

No-one I've read has said TES didn't have the right to close their forums - but that they did it without notice is unforgiveable, that they lied about it (the claim it was 'routine maintenance') suggests they are a shifty bunch, and the admission that they have deleted 20 years of posts illuminating as it points to a company with no decent morals.

'Friends Reunited' closed down AFTER a clear notice period and the opportunity to retrieve information from the site. Why didn't TES do the same?

Florianus · 22/01/2021 10:56

@staymotivated

I repeat Emily has done a cracking job setting up the site. It's not the same as the old TES Community website was, before the alternative right invasion, but it is welcome.

I just hope that more TES refugees find their way there. I am still looking out for some friends.

As I said, I did not find it welcoming. Emily is perfectly entitled to set it up as her own personal fiefdom, populated by luvvies who all agree and tell each other how wonderful they are, but it is not a formula destined to produce interesting discussion.

I hope people will tell her - and that she will listen - if they want the new forum to have any realistic future.
