It's a shame I have had a lot of support over the years on there and I like to think that I supported some as well.

We will not have such a focussed forum again.

Yes, he does and so do lots of others, but it isn’t possible to link because it will be deleted.

Naturally.

Any sign of Lexus? I think Mr Te The alternative site is unwelcoming of those with views contrary to the prevailing protocol. Banning on site seems de rigour under the guise that one is in conflict with the 'rules'. I believe that Mr Teccy is present here. If any of you know of a forum that allows debating to occur, do let on.

Kandahar · 21/01/2021 15:00

Apologies for scrambled post, and of course, banning on the site, on sight!

pastparticiple · 21/01/2021 15:22

Banning only if people break the rules. ( that some proudly proclaimed that hadn’t bothered to read them says it all about them and their intentions)

Break the rules...which are anything but clear (I have actually read them despite my quip). Be nice to one another appears to be the main rule. Well there is a lot of hate on that forum (to those whose face doesn't fit). By all means enjoy yourself there. I find the hypocrisy a little sickening.
Kandahar · 21/01/2021 15:37

Note to anyone who wants something tat Isn’t TES but has all the good things teachers etc needed from it - support , help, general chat , jobs advice , fluffy bunny stuff. Try this Ie a staffroom. board. (On the) net

Or pm me

General chat.

Yes, as long as you stick to the fluffy bunny stuff.

Enough said, I believe.

pastparticiple · 21/01/2021 15:42

I don’t understand why you’re so upset at being banned khandhar. It’s not the place for you. If you want a particular type of political forum. - go and find one.
That you’re so upset suggests that your real ‘need’ and intent is winding people up, promulgating a particular ‘line’ or maybe just revel in attention seeking . You’ve been deprived of it and are now having a tantrum. But you’re ok here . Why don’t you just start a new thread on this ste

Why am I upset? I am old, alone, and the old forum which we are not allowed to speak of, was my only connection with the outside. I lost some good friends when that went down. Not only that, but I enjoyed some good spirited debate (the sort that I enjoyed on Opinion). The personal chat was not for me, and it appears that the new site has been created with the clear intention of excluding the few who did enjoy and need that form of contact.

It's hardly inclusive or caring - the exact complaints that see to be being cast against the old site for closing with no notice.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 21/01/2021 16:30

There is no hate on that forum whatsoever. What there is, is no tolerance to extreme political bias and deliberate rudeness and unpleasantness, which is what characterised certain threads on TES.

If you’re old and alone, it might have been better to follow the rules of the new site and if it doesn’t suit your needs, start one where you can gather those who share your view.

The fact that so many have said how grateful they are to have the forum , suggests that your opinion doesn’t chime with the majority.

Good afternoon and thank you for your observations which I will take one by one:
  1. " There is no hate on that forum whatsoever. " The Trump thread is 80 odd pages of hate filled bile
  2. " ...no tolerance to extreme political bias" - meaning, that anything right of extreme left views will not be tolerated, and lead to banning.
  3. "and deliberate rudeness and unpleasantness,"...again, please read the Trump thread, and whilst you're at it, have a read of 'Who's still missing?', plenty of rudeness at large there, especially aimed at the "shouty boys", or anyone else whose face doesn't fit.
  4. "If you’re old and alone, it might have been better to follow the rules of the new site."..I am still waiting to hear which particular rules I broke. I am not only old and alone, but now quite ill into the bargain, and don't have much energy for finding yet another new site, let alone getting used to a whole new set of faces. My last 20 years on the site we must not mention, has formed strong friendships which I now miss.
  1. "The fact that so many have said how grateful they are to have the forum , suggests that your opinion doesn’t chime with the majority." I have been a life-long outsider. I am hardly likely to begin conforming now in my eighties.
ilovesooty · 21/01/2021 16:59
  1. I haven't read the Trump thread so I can't comment on the alleged hate filled bile. However I'm delighted he's gone.
  2. I don't believe all posters are extreme left wingers. That's ridiculous.
  3. Rudeness and aggression to other posters isn't deemed acceptable. The thread in question does indicate relief to have seen the back of some toxic elements that TES seemed unwilling or unable to deal with.
  4. Perhaps the site you had might still be there without the elements mentioned in point 3.
  5. If you see engaging with people respectfully as conforming and beyond your capability that's your problem.
Kandahar · 21/01/2021 17:03
  1. Thank you for cheering me up. I haven't laughed so heartily in many weeks.
  2. And yet it was evident when I was reading the forum, particularly comments aimed at posters the new forum hoped would not be signing up.
  3. Don't patronise me.
Foxyloxy1plus1 · 21/01/2021 17:47

The answer is not to read the threads that you don’t like. Like ilovesooty I don’t read the threads that it’s obvious are going to be extreme.

The fact is, that the vast majority of those who have found their way there are grateful to have a forum and will abide by the rules. The few who have chosen not to, won’t stay.

Hi all - and a warm welcome to any TES refugees. The TES community was brilliant and personally I'm sad to hear that it's closed.

If there's anything we can do to help then please let us know - there's this area, The Staffroom - and perhaps we could expand things if there's any interest. You can email us at [email protected] or just discuss on a thread.

Anyway, best of luck to you all. It's awful when a community closes.

  1. Encouraging to hear you respond so positively to becoming aware of your absurdity. Glad to hear your lonely day was brightened.
  1. Of course it might have been pointed out that those toxic disruptors were not welcome. Lovely to see us in agreement that this was a clear consistent message.

I repeat Emily has done a cracking job setting up the site. It's not the same as the old TES Community website was, before the alternative right invasion, but it is welcome.

I just hope that more TES refugees find their way there. I am still looking out for some friends.
