It’s official now. Community will not return.

Yep, you're right. Just read this

www.tes.com/community

I sense some of the offensive, totally unpolitically correct viewpoints that were being expressed by some, in the last two years of the site, created this and I still wonder whether there was 'a particular incident' that provoked it.

Neededabreak · 18/01/2021 17:14

I can't see how to reply to Rac and his 5th columnist post to me but in response, hardly. After decades of posting on TES I and other had identified features that could be improved despite TES not listening, and the opportunity to create an alternative presented itself, that said I am hesitating to move forward on it in the TES model and as some others here and pointed out the pitfalls. We have been aiming for a safe and user friendly model but are reviewing both progress and as some have asked why bother?

Any constructive comments on the venture welcome.

Neededabreak · 18/01/2021 17:17

Gawd I can't edit my grammar either... infuriating... and I must need an optician, these pages are full on and negotiating them is tiresome, hence me simply opting not to partake... I am a simple soul with straightforward needs.

Argh just remembered it is called quote here... *rolls eyes.

Just clicked your link. I can't help thinking if I were responsible for TES I would do the same, people were hiding behind anon personas to be unnecessarily obtuse and offensive often it did not come across as mere educationalists opinion but a politically motivated "them and us" situation designed to promote particular interests on what should have been personal threads. It was not always pleasant but just like the primary playground some silly ones spoil it for everyone else.

I can't think of anything in particular that triggered it but then again it doesn't matter does it?

staymotivated · 18/01/2021 17:38

@Neededabreak some of the totally unpolitical ones, who constantly quoted and pasted videos from alternative right wing websites, now have nowhere to create multiple identities and to spread their hatred and misinformation.

As they say, with every cloud......Smile

Re the website project, I would say, put it on hold. Use your creative energies elsewhere on a totally me me me project. Remember, you're worth it!Wink

Thank you... I was not working alone and it is a nice bit of teamwork outside of school with multiply purposes so though taking it easy the research and foundations are being worked on... user friendly platforms are the way to go!

I counted the alt right posts you refer to were political, as were others, but you are right hopefully we will appreciate the freedoms we are afforded.

Totally agree. There were some inappropriate threads and a subtle undercurrent of Us and Them. If you didn’t agree with some of the regular posters, you could experience some passive aggression, like I did and some downright un politically correct horrible comments.
ilovesooty · 18/01/2021 19:55

It doesn't matter what some individuals thought of the TES forums or those who posted there. The fact is that they were pulled without warning, leaving a lot of vulnerable posters without support or alternative means of contact, just before Christmas, and TES seemingly lied as it appears that they never had any intention of reinstating them. That was cruel and paints TES Global in a very poor light.

staymotivated · 18/01/2021 21:59

@Zoorhik I certainly didn't like the way certain individuals were treated and driven off the site and the fact that the only people reporting people were usually the baddies Sad. Pity it had to descend into what it did and there wasn't a pre-announced last day. But if was closed due to a compliance issue, then they had no other choice other than to act fast.

MANT · 18/01/2021 22:35

What a loss to the teaching profession. I was known as Curae. We laughed cried and sometimes disagreed. We spoke about our families and workmates. What a shame especially at a time when community is most needed. I do hope those lovely TESSERS on the "how are you coping" personal page keep in contact .They were a tight group especially when our dearest Helen passed. I also had a special.place in my heart for a lovely TESSERS called Lara...someone I would often refer to as a woman of substance.
If any TESSERS read this I for one will never forget the strong moral and practical advice you gave me and other TESSERS during some very difficult times.
Take care TESSERS and I hope( as the Queen would say ) that one day we will meet again (at least online)

It does matter to me what I think about the TES community forum because, @ilovesooty I was one of those “vulnerable posters” and was given absolute hell from a regular poster.

I'm really sorry to hear that and I appreciate that yes, it would matter to you what you thought of the forum. My issue, and that of many others, lies in the way the closure of TES Community has been handled - callously and deceitfully.

It's true that a lot of people are still missing. Hopefully, they will find their way.

@LovetoTeach86

The international board was quite busy. Most teachers abroad get their job through TES. Can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want the board running? It gives them lots of advertising space. International schools pay tens of thousands for TES adverts for recruitment.
This is a real loss. For the 1000s of British and others teachers around the world in international or British international schools, Tes was often the only place you could ask and get honest answers about schools, countries, and opportunities. It wasn't what it once was, but up until the day the forum closed I was messaging posters about where I might work next and answers others' questions in response. The only place for this now is ISR, which is American in content and feel, and has a very lacklustre forum dominated by a few big personalities. I for one will miss the Hippo, TonyGT and several others who have freely of their time and advice. I also agree that closing it in the way it was done was cruel and unnecessary. There were people on the boards I've been messaging on and off for 12 years. I will probably never be able to contact them again.
