Where the dickens has it gone? Is it gone gone? Has it been renamed and I just can't find it?

OP posts:
PriscillaChinchilla · 13/01/2021 18:02

LOL.

Zoorhik · 13/01/2021 18:12

I mean in the staffroom. I don’t go on any other threads here.

PriscillaChinchilla · 13/01/2021 18:20

Okay. I'm happy for you that you have this place. Enjoy.

I'm so pleased to discover this discussion, I haven't read through it all yet, but I intend to.

I was active on the TES community for about 8 years and was upset/angry/annoyed and thoroughly fed up when it shut down, without warning, a few days before I spent Christmas alone, last month.

Furthermore, it hasn't returned during what must be considered to be the most contentious period in UK education, dare I say UK history - in my lifetime. There is so much to discuss!

I did e-mail them early in the new year and received a couple of replies, they tell me the site is down for work to do with 'technical compliance'. What even is that?

Now having worked in the UK education system for several years, I can spot billhooks 'management speak' a mile off and this is that. I have recently sent more strident e-mails pointing out that a) the message that exists on the 'non-active' site states it is down for 'planned maintenance'. If it was planned - why were we not warned about it beforehand? And b) - the most contentious issue: I have put it to the TES people that I was considering writing a book about the UK education system, which would have lent heavily on my interactions on their site, over the years (for research). I have asked them how do I get to my content and legally whose intellectual property is it?

Needless to say, their e-mails to me have now dried up.... & I'm just glad to have discovered this place where I can vent a bit!

Submit a Subject Access Request and ask them to include all the posts that were made with your username: ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-to-get-copies-of-your-data/

Now a subject access request sounds like a very interesting idea. Not only all posts made but I wonder where you'd stand if you asked for the content of PMs sent and received too.

staymotivated · 15/01/2021 15:41

You usually have to pay for a subject access request, usually £50.

diddydave · 15/01/2021 16:16

@staymotivated

You usually have to pay for a subject access request, usually £50.
From the ICO page it should not be 'usual' to pay a fee: ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-to-get-copies-of-your-data/what-to-expect-after-making-a-subject-access-request/#b

"Can an organisation charge a fee?
In most circumstances, they should give you a copy of your personal information free of charge.

However, an organisation can charge a reasonable fee to cover their administrative costs – if they think your request is ‘manifestly unfounded or excessive’.

They can also charge a fee if you ask for further copies of your information following a request.

If an organisation can charge a fee, the one-month time limit does not begin until they have received the fee."

staymotivated · 15/01/2021 18:42

I have always been asked to pay a fee whenever I requested it and I understand why because there is a an awful lot of data to wade through. The issue of communications, via a third parties' website is difficult to ascertain. If you communicate on your school's website, the contents of your emails can be deleted by the school, at any time, because it is their website.

Perhaps the lesson to learn from the TES Community experience is that we must always remember, unless we are communicating on our own personal emails or other personal forms of social media, we really don't have control over how long we can retain that information.

LovetoTeach86 · 16/01/2021 09:06

I emailed them. It’s down for maintenance but they said it will be back. It’s just taking longer than they expected.

Yes - that what we keep being told whenever we email. Eventually, they stop replying!
LovetoTeach86 · 16/01/2021 11:06

The international board was quite busy. Most teachers abroad get their job through TES. Can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want the board running? It gives them lots of advertising space. International schools pay tens of thousands for TES adverts for recruitment.

42isthemeaning · 16/01/2021 15:09

I relied on that TES community for many things when I first came into teaching over 20 years ago! I'm glad to have found this thread. I've tried joining the staffroom forum mentioned below but I'd really like to join this new one under development. Smile

racroesus · 17/01/2021 14:00

So I have had to join mumsnet!
Dear God!

racroesus · 17/01/2021 14:07

@PriscillaChinchilla

I had cake for breakfast...
The clique is here as well. No Dear God button here, either. Believe me. BBC HYS is the pits.
racroesus · 17/01/2021 14:10

@Neededabreak

Hello there,

I am new to Mumsnet as this came up when I was looking for TES Community... we appear to have lost the teachers community and like others I have found it helpful to my career and various other aspects of life over the years... *around 16 years of my decades of teaching to be precise.

I feel somewhat bereft of Community like others have stated, yet another site is being developed as I type, I will keep you up to date with how it is going and will be sure to let you know of the launch date, a network for teachers is born from the loss that has arisen over this Christmas period.

Any tips and hints are most welcomed, hopefully we can avoid the glitches and negativity of the past and move forward in an innovative yet grass roots manner to support both serving and retired teachers.

*I posted something similar in response to someones post, this is unfamiliar territory to me too :/ that said I am pleased to have found you guys :D

Best,
NAB

So you were a fifth columnist?
racroesus · 17/01/2021 14:19

@PriscillaChinchilla

I was Coffeekid on Tes. I'll keep popping back onto this thread to see if there are any new updates. I hope you all had a nice Christmas, and maybe I'll see you... somewhere else. Best, D.
Hi Doll!

Come on over to my place
Hey, Rac, we're having a party
We'll be swinging, dancing and singing
Baby, come on over tonight
Now you don't need the address
To find out where we'll be
Cause you can't help hearing the music
Halfway down the street

racroesus · 17/01/2021 15:26

@Scintillant1

Morning TES people.
We aren't all footballers so I won't be hugging you.

I got my quoting wrong, the clique comment was for the voice of rosie. I have joined the other place.
