I see we have someone who's just joined up or is operating under a name change who won't substantiate their allegations by revealing their TES name.

You can be banned without warning or explanation. Hardly what you would call fair. My characterisation is accurate.

"farqueue21" - I get what you did there. What was your name on TES? No, didn't think you'd reveal that. There was a toxic element on TES and many people are glad to not have to encounter it again. If you're so unhappy why not set up your own place?

Another one who can't explain. There was no abuse or trolling going on. It was a straightforward observation about spreading misinformation which is what Scintillant was doing about Trump.

It's really poor form to comment about specifics on another closed forum and quote usernames.

The whole point of this thread is the discussion of another forum i.e. TES community. Multiple usernames have been mentioned already. I think you are having me on.

It's more reflective of the supportive side of TES, which is great, but I for one would miss the spirited debate and back-and-forth of TES forums. The friends and the "frienemies" too.

You're making the right decision. Heated debate will definitely not be tolerated.

I wondered how long it would be before someone with an agenda went on the staffroom site. I have no idea what happened and why they got banned, but social media has always been a huge problem to moderate because the question of who moderates the moderators will always arise. I and others actually believed that some of those TES posts that caused a lot of nastiness where actually a set up to create the dissolution of the site. I believe if the site is put up again, it will be completely different with someone like the old Roseline at TES creating the debate and walking away. The American company that bought TES in December 2018 are a reputable international educational company, with schools around the world and the number of TES online courses have mushroomed over the past 2 years. They have a remit in creating an international educational community where educators from all around the world can connect and perhaps they are hoping for that to be represented on their community website. Which however, will not be what everyone is expecting, but could be interesting, nonetheless.

Perhaps there was a clause in the contract of sale that the TES Community website remained the same for 2 years, because it was actually almost 2 years to the date of the sale that it closed down.

Hi Alex, good to hear from you (even though we rarely agreed).

It's not that 'certain opinions won't be tolerated', but posting unpleasantly or with a windup agenda won't be.

I miss the debates we had on the old site with those posters who expressed their ideas but did so without attacking others personally or criticising others' opinions in a sneering or nasty way.

Dumpty was great to debate with, because you could have a civil, robust discussion which never descended into unpleasantness.

Might be worth giving it a try?

I broke none of the rules. When I questioned which rule I had broken I was immediately banned. I was never once put on moderation on TES. The emilystrange woman has performed a good service, the site looks good and she has made many people happy. If she is going to dictate what people can and cannot talk about however then the more opinionated posters will be forever treading on egg shells to avoid her wrath. I have seen it already with Red. It will happen with some of the others. I know them too well. Hopefully the TES site will be back soon.

I hope opinionated posters will be ‘treading on eggshells’ if they are the ones whose posts revolve around personal insults and attack. Grown up discussion about issues focuses on politely explained views, preferably with references or sources and not personal attacks. Btw how many different names have you registered with there? Is it 3?

It is clearly not meant to be. It is a site for support and virtual friendship for those working in schools . Amongst other things it appears to have proactive moderation in line with its rules.

Certainly sounds plausible. Opinions were expressed regularly on TES that flatly contradicted elitsit doctrines that appeared regularly in the news section. In this age of cancel culture and censorship of public platforms, it's a miracle it survived as long as it did.

Well I'm laughing at the thought of Trump supporters and covid-deniers coming onto a Tes substitute forum because the likes of Parler has been shut down. And the assumption that said site mods will put up with shit-stirring bullshit (wrong assumption, chaps)

Hi all. I found this thread as I was searching for the TES forum. I haven't read all the pages here so has it actually gone?? If so I am very sad as although I don't go there often these days, I have been a regular poster over 15 year. Some may remember me as PlymouthMaid.
