You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I guess no Head could unilaterally start suggesting any students stay home .....

CallmeAngelina · 03/11/2020 22:58

noblegiraffe · 03/11/2020 23:22

Kids spent all of today asking when schools would close. It was like March again. ‘THERE ARE NO PLANS TO CLOSE SCHOOLS’.

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/11/2020 23:44

@phlebasconsidered I think it probably was same one you saw - it was on the main page of BBC app earlier. @starrynight19 think I’ll run out of school and meee DD again tomorrow and pretend it was just because it was nice to walk home with her again.... I have never read such a chilling message from the police tbh, but maybe because it is close to home and so rare.

Went out tonight - pubs rammed! Was lovely through to see our good friends and have dinner out!

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/11/2020 06:40

Just read on news they made an arrest.

So tired today and I’ve only done one day...

motherrunner · 04/11/2020 06:43

@MrsHerculePoirot I would do the same. A few summers ago we were on holiday and we heard a commotion - a Spanish woman couldn’t find her son. The wailing was heartbreaking, I didn’t let go of DC’s hands for the rest of the night.

DS’ last day of isolation. He’s completed all his school work so it looks like a day on Roblox whilst I teach. Had an email from our Head detailing plans to try and bubble KS4 and 5 further as collectively they have had 8 periods of isolation so far KS5 have actually been out of school more than in! Obviously can’t change their lessons but they will be assigned specific communal areas, I guess it’s to work in close contacts. I’m still not sure how it can be successful though. Hope it does though as they are getting a rough deal.

starrynight19 · 04/11/2020 07:34

That’s good news they have arrested him. That poor little girl.

Gave up with mn last night lots of duplicate posts it was impossible to follow threads. Seems to be fixed.

noblegiraffe · 04/11/2020 08:45

I woke up thinking at least there would be good news from the US but 2020 strikes again.

And the car was iced up. So cold.

BelleSausage · 04/11/2020 09:18

Well our sixth formers are tearing it as a joke. They CBA to wear masks, distance, stop having massive parties etc.

The entire country is closing down so they can still have schooling and they don’t care. The level of entitlement is staggering. People will lose their businesses so that 17 years olds don’t have to stop socialising or attempt to complete any work independently.

GravityFalls · 04/11/2020 10:09

Ugh about America. I had to switch to brainless local radio on the way to work as I couldn’t deal with Today.

And I feel I can say this safely here - FUCK OFF to all the threads of people “planning lockdown”, all daily walks and snuggling and getting back into Duolingo. I could honestly scream at them. It just enrages me. It’s not fair I know and of course people want to be prepared but I feel like my life will be exactly the same, only shitter, and that really really stings. Hopefully there’ll be less traffic but that’s about it.

starrynight19 · 04/11/2020 10:46

We have tested positive here so two weeks isolation for us all Sad

This is how I feel.

Just heard from DS's care home. No visiting from tomorrow until further notice, still in isolation so can't see him today.

DH will be heartbroken when he gets home from work and I tell him.

Can't see our own DS but have to look after hundreds of other people's DC. Shit.Sad

monkeytennis97 · 04/11/2020 11:00

@starrynight19 hope you are all ok x

Augustbreeze · 04/11/2020 11:02

Sorry to hear that @starrynight19 , is it more than one of your household, I seem to be hearing about more families where they all/several members are positive?

BBC's report on the study Sky first ran on, showing parents of children "no more likely" to get Covid than others:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54794904

Sky said it was Mar to Aug I thought, but Beeb says February to August, need to find the actual study. What date it starts from and other parameters are crucial to if it actually reassures or not. (Shows I ncreased risk by 8% for secondary parents anyway)

motherrunner · 04/11/2020 11:08

@starrynight19 How are you all feeling? Sending lots of best wishes 💐

Augustbreeze · 04/11/2020 11:14

Found it - the dates of the LSHTP study are 1 Feb - 3 Aug. Only negative outcome for those living with children was 8% increased risk of infection for those with secondary age children. No increased risk or death.

It is a pre print and is only looking at stats from NHS records, but is this reassuring? They do say it needs more research.

I suppose in February the infection was rife in all settings, the point now and certainly in this next lockdown, is that it's being severely limited or stopped altogether in most other settings except for education.

Augustbreeze · 04/11/2020 11:15

Hugs @monkeytennis97 .....

RigaBalsam · 04/11/2020 11:26

Sorry to read that starry.

August I don't feel reassured. We didn't hear of a local case in my North East town until after lockdown now there's are numerous cases in my school.

I am probably over sensitive though as I live with over 70s.

motherrunner · 04/11/2020 11:36

@monkeytennis97 I’m so sorry 💐

RigaBalsam · 04/11/2020 11:40

Monkey so sorry too. ThanksThanks

Augustbreeze · 04/11/2020 11:40

No I know Riga, just trying to assess the science.... (and prepare myself for all the posters who will seize on this!)
