You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I had wine with lunch and 90 assessments need marking this evening.... Wish me luck!

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2020 16:57

My DSis and her partner live in Pennsylvania so we can chalk that one up to her!

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/11/2020 16:58

Oh no good luck with that @Sureitwillbegrand.

RigaBalsam · 07/11/2020 17:00

@MrsHamlet

Who the hell is Tigs???? Fat fingers failed to type Riga. My proof reading game is weak today!
I quite like Tigs

Sometimes wine makes marking better.

DreamingofBrie · 07/11/2020 17:06

Hello all just had a lovely video call with DS (lasted about 3 minutes which was great). 2 more carers have tested positive so DS has had to have another test. I can't imagine how difficult it is to try and give him the test.

Sending positive thoughts to your DS Monkey, I hope he is ok.

Dd just came in and told me to check Twitter Grin.

Holy crap! I take a break from MN and now we're on the 28th Republic! Doesn't time fly when -life is shit- you're having fun?

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 07/11/2020 17:09

Strikethrough fail 🤦🏻‍♀️*@herc* I find that wine improves the quality of my marking.

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2020 17:16

Trump is an arsehole.

A dangerous arsehole.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 17:17

Very annoyed with myself as I ended up spending way too long working. Not marking but trying to plan and realising links don't work, there are no resources, the ppt doesn't make any sense, the lesson on the s drive doesn't match what the overview elsewhere says I'm meant to be doing etc.

Also colleague clearly upset over what she assumes I meant or said rather than reality so having to psychically gather that from snippy message and email explaining the misunderstanding. Realised it's not the first time she's assumed the worst and taken things personally and assumed the worst. Now paranoid about whether some 'shit stirring' is taking place and who I can actually trust or maybe this colleague is just overly sensitive?

Also pissed off that I'm being manipulated into doing way too much with, "it'll be good for your ups application next year" comments.

Moan over.

Saucery · 07/11/2020 17:23

Good news, monkey! I hope the staff members have a mild case.

SmileEachDay · 07/11/2020 17:24

Blearfg Honey that sounds shit.

Any chance of clearing the air with snippy colleague?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 17:30

I feel awful now. Hate feeling paranoid or like I'm dealing with people who aren't being straightforward and actually seem to be causing problems between people.

My last hod could be a nightmare but she was up front and exactly what it said on the tin itms.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 17:32

@SmileEachDay

Blearfg Honey that sounds shit.

It's more is there anyway to keep the air clear or is someone creating misunderstandings? Hope I'm wrong but inclined to taking a wider berth of my colleagues
TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 17:39

I will pour a drink and try to forget about it. Determined not to do any work tomorrow and on Monday I'll go in and do what needs to be done and steer clear of department colleagues.

I'm definitely carrying my weight and more so I've rationally got nothing to feel bad about.

What's the situation with USA election? Anyone got a link to something succinct?

Hercwasonaroll · 07/11/2020 17:57

Ahh lovely monkey, pleased you got to see him even if it wasn't an in person visit. Rubbish for the carers who have it, I hope your ds is negative. I have a relative with carers in 2 x a day and she says she feels like a sitting duck.

Honey that sucks. As shit as my school is, our dept has an unwritten "no contact at the weekend unless it's a dire emergency" policy (apart from Sunday evening).

It might 'just' be oversensitivity. Everyone is a bit prickly at the moment and no one really knows what else everyone else has going on behind closed doors. I used to flip out at people being seemingly snippy, now I try to be kind and assume the best of peoole. (I'm not saying that you are being anything but kind here!).

monkeytennis97 · 07/11/2020 18:13

Thank you everyone!❤️Party atmosphere here at home.. yay Biden!!! So happy. The only bit of good news from 2020Smile

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 07/11/2020 18:27

No more angry wotsit in the white house! My BIL is devastated... shows a lot about him really!
@Hercwasonaroll @TheHoneyBadger the emails at stupid times is such a nightmare - I had a small meltdown before half term due to a member of staff sending a 9pm email to be actioned at 8.40am the next day. Bearing in mind how long our computers take to log on atm... 🙄 Definitely agree that a supportive HoD makes a world of difference. I love mine.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 18:40

I try to assume the best too which is why it's worrying me that this colleague seems to assume the worst of me and I worry some stirring from the 3rd person involved. Think I may cc both in anything from now on so nothing can be interpreted between parties.

Might just need to get used to the fact humanities teachers are more sensitive and spiky than the science teachers I got used to working with. They were seemingly insensitive at times till I got a thicker skin and realised many were very left brained and didn't mince words and (a couple at times) didn't even register feelings Grin

Have ordered takeout again sadly. Wasted too much time and headspace on work stuff and then no energy to decide on food and cook it. My weight loss has been stalled or painfully slow since going back in September.

monkeytennis97 · 07/11/2020 18:45

@TheHoneyBadger my weight loss has really slowed since September- lost 11lbs since September when I was losing 10lbs a month every month since March before that. Still, I'm just pleased I haven't gained given the general mood since September. Gagging for chocolates at the moment!

Hercwasonaroll · 07/11/2020 18:51

My weight loss has stalled since the start of October. I lost my traditional back to work half a stone and now hovering on the same weight. The amount of crap I've eaten must have been balanced by the stress to reach an equilibrium.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/11/2020 19:07

You're still losing tons monkey!

Herc yes I'm remaining grateful I haven't piled weight back on given the amount of takeaway and alcohol I've consumed this term. Stress and planning and cooking healthy meals don't go together for me.

With lockdown now it's hard to think of what else to treat or distract yourself with than alcohol or food.

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/11/2020 19:34

Same here re weightloss stalling since Sept. Went for bloods today for my diabetic review will will now be awful and not reflect what I did from March - September. But maybe it's what I need to shock me back on track. I haven't back much, just not losing any.

Thank fuck about trump. Maybe, just maybe it is the beginning of the end of all the madness in the world?!?! #optimistic

@monkeytennis97 so glad you got your you video call. Your post warmed my rage-filled heart today!

monkeytennis97 · 07/11/2020 19:36

@TheHoneyBadger still have at least 2 stone to go! Just want chocolate, cake, wine😩

MrsHamlet · 07/11/2020 19:36

I lost lofs of weight from September to March just by not snacking. It's all come back :(
We're terrible for biscuits in our office and I have a child's taste for haribo... plus gin!!
Definitely eating more veggie and vegan meals these days but I'm stuck. Doesn't help that I loathe exercise :( I did lots of biking after work in lockdown but I'm a fair weather biker!
