You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I’m pretty militant about book standards. Underlining, keeping them neat and beautiful, sticking sheets in.

I think it does help students have pride in their work.

It made my heart glow with pride when the naughtiest boy in my Y10 class said “Miss look! I’ve got a highlighter so I can do the key words like you tell us to” 😊

I don’t care in 6th form though - if they’ve got that far without sorting out their presentation it’s a losing battle 🤣

Appuskidu · 07/11/2020 15:31

Just back from a walk in the woods-I have never seen it so busy! There were even queues at some of the really busy paths!

MrsHamlet · 07/11/2020 15:33

Ah, yes, Smile - my books are systematic and woe betide anyone who sticks in a wonky sheet. But titles and dates don't bother me.
I am very bothered -when I think of all the bad things I have done in my life- when I look at books which have title date objective ad Infinitum but no actual work

SmileEachDay · 07/11/2020 15:37

wonky sheet

😱

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2020 15:39

I don’t care about underlining titles or a particular format for the date.

But I am brutal about

  1. writing the question number - some kids don’t do this or write question numbers that don’t correlate to the actual question number. Why?!

  2. Writing one equals per line of working and one question per line. No columns! No meandering across the page!

  3. Writing their working with the question, not having random working littering the side of the page.

My Y12s were shit at this, Year 12! I am gradually bollocking them into submission.

SmileEachDay · 07/11/2020 15:42

Ooh thinking about layout.

My insistence that writing starts next to the margin and goes to the end of the line, unless you are indenting a paragraph has been described as “psychotic”. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MrsHamlet · 07/11/2020 15:42

Also... kids who get the scissors out and trim the already trimmed sheets. If I wanted them trimmed, I did it. With the guillotine. If I didn't, I didn't.
Don't make me cross 😂

MrsHamlet · 07/11/2020 15:43

I've been called a "pendant" for insisting on work on paper having the holes on the left. I suppose I should be vaguely pleased that they are attempting "pedant". It could be worse.

StanfordPines · 07/11/2020 15:44

@CallmeAngelina

Well, dh and I went for a long dog-walk this morning (from the house) and passed through a large park at one point. It was beyond rammed, particularly the children's play area. So we didn't get to go on the seesaw! Angry Some quite large groups there too, standing around chatting not exercising. Lockdown? What lockdown?
I’m incredibly lucky having a large park behind my house and another one street away in front. I went for a walk at 9am through one park and then into the other. The second park was heaving!
Saucery · 07/11/2020 15:44

We played Are They Really All In The Same Household? on our walk this morning. Quietly between ourselves. I’m not actually that arsed about groups of people getting out early for some fresh air in a group.
We also pretend to be huffy about how our usually deserted apart from dog walkers and nature lovers moorland walk is now mobbed in a lockdown from about 10.30 am. That’s the time we are leaving as we get there before 8am but part of me can’t wait until they all fuck off back to whatever they did pre-lockdown and leave us to it.
Litter goes up, sheep worrying goes up, parking is ridiculous, no wonder the small number of residents in rural areas get pissed off.

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2020 15:47

I didn't realise how lax I am til now.

Usually I don't even know the date.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2020 15:48

My rules all make things easier for me when I’m marking. That’s the reason I’m fussy!

Yes, Tigs
There is a special circle of hell for those people.

MrsHamlet · 07/11/2020 15:59

Who the hell is Tigs???? Fat fingers failed to type Riga. My proof reading game is weak today!

Hercwasonaroll · 07/11/2020 15:59

I'm in the not overly fussed about books camp. Much to the horror of SLT. Anything I mark is an assessment or quiz. They self mark everything else. Therefore question numbers are irrelevant. Dates and titles too. We're not looking at all at classwork at the moment and guess what, it's made fuck all difference.

I'm supposed to care. I just don't.

Sureitwillbegrand · 07/11/2020 16:12

I managed to get an early morning walk with the dog, no one around, before I got a call from the Head! I am so thankful I went for that walk this morning as it's my last for a couple of weeks! Have signed up to Fiit as teachers get 60 days free access meh might do some exercise.
Off to think about how I teach my lessons for next week...

monkeytennis97 · 07/11/2020 16:25

Hello all just had a lovely video call with DS (lasted about 3 minutes which was great). 2 more carers have tested positive so DS has had to have another test. I can't imagine how difficult it is to try and give him the test.

I've started vaping again through the stress of everything but trying not to do it too much. Went for a lovely walk today and DH has been pottering around gardening this afternoon whilst I've been marking.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/11/2020 16:43

@SmileEachDay

Oh no we’re not it’s absolutely rammed out there, apparently

You’d certainly not think there was a lockdown where I am - large ish city. I just drove through town to go for a run and it was really busy.

Either the entire town is on the beach of half the SW have come down here. Thankfully the sun isn’t out or the other half would be here too.

And after carefully trimming A4 sheets so that they fit nicely into A4 books without hanging out over the edge, it gives me the RAGE when they stick them in crooked!!! Angry
NeurotrashWarrior · 07/11/2020 16:54

Whoop whoop giant angry wotsit is out!

I'm on the Prosecco! (Which isn't great for my cold/cough bug but hey, it's a seminal moment!)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/11/2020 16:56

Didn’t realise there was another page.

How lovely monkey. Shame about the other two carers though.
