You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Piggywaspushed

I taught Nadine Dorries daughter...
I taught our MPs son too. Though not as famous as yours.
MrsHamlet · 01/11/2020 18:59

It gets worse.
I said reading part tomorrow; writing on Thursday.
Next email - what's the reading part?! 🤦🏼‍♀️

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2020 18:59

My new TT has been issued - times of our day have altered.

I now only have 2 PPAs and they are both on one day, so every other day I am back to back teaching 😩

They’re looking at it...

Yep! Come on, let's get the gin out and get pissed!
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 01/11/2020 19:07

I have hatred for them not following the effing rules. Already bloody posts about play dates and ‘does this mean me?’ type questions. Honest to god all the ‘let’s protest’ bollocks is the type of behaviour which has got us into this situation. Yes it is shit but they need to step up to the mark and accept the fact that they have bent the rules for the past few months to suit themselves.

It is pissing me off big time - follow the bloody rules so we can get out of lockdown.

Being nosy re secondary arrangements re teaching and PPA here... What's your usual number of hours for PPA/not teaching? It's usual in primary to be teaching back to back all day except for half a day PPA so I'm not sure how that compares.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/11/2020 19:12

Preach Staff. Also follow the spirit of the rules not just the letter. Except in some exceptional circumstances there's no need to find the boundary of every rule and see how far you can push it.

RigaBalsam · 01/11/2020 19:16

Desperate when daily fail comments want schools to close. 🙈

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/11/2020 19:17

I am reporting all posts suggesting protesting or encouraging others to break the rules. Doubt anything will happen.

@DrMadelineMaxwell 10% PPA so it partly depends on how your timetable is structured. We have 25 teaching periods a week so you should get 2.5 PPA which obviously has to be rounded up to 3. When we had a two week timetable, we got 5 a fortnight (out of 50). They can however by thrown in anywhere so sometimes you get them all bunched together and other times spread out. Pros and cons to both ways...

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2020 19:17

It’s 10% PPA I think?

I should have 3 PPA sessions across the week. I’ve only lost one but it feels like a lot 😖

And soz, I forgot primary PPA is always blocked isn’t it? I like mine scattered through the week so I have time to breath.

Sometimes it’s blocked in really shit blocks though. I had my (Part time) 1.5 hours in three lots of half an hours-by the time I’d found somewhere free to sit, it was nearly gone!
plasticboxesrock · 01/11/2020 19:21

Good luck everyone going back tomorrow.
I'm feeling very anxious and pissed off at the same time. DH stress level (he's ECV) very high and he's pissing me off too. Parent of my 1:1 irritating me on facebook page (keeps trying to "friend request" me and I ignore, then tries sending me messages via the school page, grrr.) DD doesn't want to go back and is being monosyllabic teen and guess what, that's pissing me off too!

Deeeep breaths.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/11/2020 19:22

I'm also about to lose tolerance for 'it's not fair for people not to see their families'. Yes, I know it sucks, but it's 4 weeks (and the rest) but unless we get the UK rate down I'm not going to be able to see mine for some time. So unless there are some compassionate grounds (when it should be allowed) I'm a bit lacking in sympathy today.

What’s happening about ECV people-is it just back as normal as shielding isn’t returning?
DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/11/2020 19:27

Thanks for the reply rePPA. That's interesting. :)
I like mine in a solid block as I settle into things and plough through planning the next week and prepping what I can in advance (never use it for marking), but then when it's gone it's gone.

Last year my colleage was off and there were several cover arrangements over the term. Each one of them impacted my PPA somehow. The worst was when I had Mon PPA one week, then Fri the next week then immediately followed by Monday again. I much prefer it when it's regular.

Mine has moved this week to attend a meeting (not strictly P,P or A!) and then I have to move it after that again to a different day (rather than my usual day, when a room and computer were always free for me to use) because the PPA cover teacher can't discipline my class and always comes and gets me to deal with at least one child's behaviour. I complained. This is the result. A new day when the anco is available to intervene instead of me - not that the anco knows that yet!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 01/11/2020 19:30

Honest to god it is like getting kids to wear their school uniform properly! Always some excuse.

None of us want to be in lockdown but that’s tough we are where we are.

Jesus Christ.
I have posted elsewhere that I want schools to remain open. I've now read of many parents saying that they intend to go to the fucking park after school because... blah-di-blah, they're mixing at school so why not?
I am changing my mind.
Schools should fucking well close and lock the gates. Angry Angry

SmileEachDay · 01/11/2020 19:44

Sounds like nothing in my SEN school is changing. I’m 26 weeks pregnant and still expected into our tiny classrooms as usual

You should have your own risk assessment. That’s such a worry.

Augustbreeze · 01/11/2020 19:48

I do approve of the thing doing Fb rounds that says:

"We stay apart now, so that when we gather again, no one is missing"

It is sufficiently scary (and serious) I think, and that's all that's going to work with many people.

(I know it doesn't help for schools though....)

in which I put that there isn’t the room to stay 2m away from the children

Union? Can you argue to have your class sizes reduced?

We have a teacher doing that at my place. Only one - I don’t think there’d be space for another!

This was so bad for me last night - I had a day off the teacher-bashing threads and it's done me so much good. Although I'm still grumpy today...
