You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@monkeytennis97 Have replied.

I think I’m going to sign off for the night before I become too maudlin. Stay strong everyone.

Hercwasonaroll · 31/10/2020 20:56

Flowers monkey

The overwhelming attitude I'm getting from my pals is sheer frustration with the whole thing. So many new mums struggling. I'm glad I returned from mat leave early, at least I have something to do outside of my house.

I agree with the worker drone analogy. I like work, I love the kids, I like (mostly) my colleagues. But it's not the same as having a few beers down the pub at the weekend. It's not the same as visiting my nan for a cuppa and taking her a treat. It's not the same as nipping to Costa for a treat with my little one.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/10/2020 20:56

Huge hugs and stuff upper lip shoulder bumps.
It's shit.
I have drunk nearly a full bottle of wine to myself tonight and I dont feel like stopping.
Don't tend to keep alcohol on the house though and took the Bailey's out of my online shopping cart so I might just have to go to bed.

SansaSnark · 31/10/2020 20:59

I feel the same as a lot of others who have said about all the additional bollocks being piled on, with no acknowledgement we are doing lots of extra stuff re covid anyway (e.g. setting lessons for self-isolating students, extra duties due to staggered lunches, constant battles re masks and windows etc) and then the school want to introduce more new initiatives and talk about learning walks.

They didn't want to announce this today, and I do wonder if that was partly to do with teacher resignation dates- but of course we'd have to work til Christmas anyway.

I'm young and healthy and theoretically not at risk, but I'm so morally against schools being open because of the risk to wider society, as well as teachers. I really, really, want my union (NEU) to actually step up and do something this time.

Can they ballot us to strike over this?

RigaBalsam · 31/10/2020 21:01

Oh gosh I have just read some comments on a daily fail article about the unions.

Glutton for punishment. Do not look so many ignorant people.

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 21:07

Just burned my keyboard with the fire of the email I just sent my MP. I saw on Twitter that Tory MPs are unhappy with the level of flack they are getting from their constituents over the lockdown so I'm happy to add to the pile.

I've asked him to raise the issue urgently in parliament that if the situation is that dire teachers need additional protection, especially given the data in secondary schools.

GravityFalls · 31/10/2020 21:10

I like work, I love the kids, I like (mostly) my colleagues.

Me too, I’ve had a great year so far even with all the crap! I like work and I’m happy there BUT even so, I still really only work to allow me to have the money to do other stuff. So doing all the work and none of the other stuff - well, it’s not a life.

hedgehogger1 · 31/10/2020 21:12

Has anyone got a link to data on cases in schools. Just been searching google without luck. Almost like people don't everyone to know

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/10/2020 21:12

@monkeytennis97 so sorry - wish there was something helpful I could say or do.

If anyone would be willing to PM their MP letter to me - I want to make sure I’m not missing anything out.... can’t bring myself to write anything tonight. So frustrating.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/10/2020 21:13

Noble - you're much better with words than me. I dont suppose you fancy copy/pasting your email into a PM for me so I can copy/paste and send to my MP?
I feel very disloyal to my school, as I know they do genuinely do their best for their staff - but risk assessing in a pandemic is beyond their skill set. And responsibility lies with gov. So my Tory MP needs a kicking.

Good for you.

I wrote two emails to mine during the exam debacle and his reply was so horrible (verging on threatening) that it actually made me cry! I was obviously a bit emotional that week, but still. It’s really put me off writing to him again.

I’m sure that was what he wanted though.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 21:20

OK, OK, I have an upside. Bear with me:

Parents will all be at home, WFH in blissful peace without their DCs, or furloughed. So possibly, just maybe, they will be more prepared to seek test and isolate their kids if necessary because there are no real work implications... although, having said that , I have now remembered how many say they can't WFH with their children around them..

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 31/10/2020 21:22

@monkeytennis97 Flowers for you x

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 21:24

After writing politely to my MP, I just vented what I really think on my schools are fucked thread.

Hate them, hate them, hate them.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 21:30

It was quite spectacular!

Does anyone on here actually have a good MP? A nice LibDem perhaps, or a proper Labour MP. RLB??

As we know, mine id Mad Nad who was moaning earlier on Twiiter saying how could people possibly have expected the government to know what was going to happen...

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 21:33

Yes, Nadine, it is actually a bit much to hope the government might be able to figure out the consequences of actions when they have never had to face up to them before.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 21:34

My email was just a link to the data graphs and a list of questions.

He won't respond in person, we just get a generic response. He has broadly been 'OK' in terms of his reasonings for response - ie, not rude or 100% dismissive, but he is a new Tory, parachuted in after our ace ex Tory rebel resigned, so always votes with the whip.

So, I put as much effort in to my email as he will in to his, but they need emails to be counted for reasons noble gives.

I have a friend no an acquaintance these days who is a Tory MP. She votes APPALLINGLY. I've not seen her since the last election. I don't think I'll see her ever again to be honest.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 21:36

I've an additional downside:

Parents will not send kids in.
It's the 'law' that there is remote learning.
They will use that and expect response etc from us.

Upside - possibly smaller classes.

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 21:41

I sent my email through writetothem.com/ which doesn’t allow links or attachments sadly, but they do follow up and check you got a reply.

If you do email your MP remember to include your address to prove you’re a constituent.

phlebasconsidered · 31/10/2020 21:42

I'm shaking. I think it's a proper panic.

I am petrified of bringing it home to my mum, i'm petrified of getting it and being really ill and leaving my kids alone with mum. I am high risk in 3 ways and I can't get it out of my head. I honestly feel like i've been abandoned to the economy. If I could resign I would.

hedgehogger1 · 31/10/2020 21:43

Thanks @noblegiraffe!

starrynight19 · 31/10/2020 21:45

Does anyone on here actually have a good MP? A nice LibDem perhaps, or a proper Labour MP. RLB??

Piggy as you know I don’t. Not even worth bothering as he just doesn’t even reply.

flumposie · 31/10/2020 21:45

I'm so angry at the headlines 'national lockdown '. It's far from it with schools open. My goodwill towards work has gone. I will do no more or less than I need to. To not even insist masks are worn in all schools on corridors etc is a slap on the face. Fuck you Boris.

MrsHamlet · 31/10/2020 21:46

@phlebasconsidered please don't take this as a twatty "is your mental health okay" - but taking some time off is okay. You're more important than school.
