You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I agree.

There's an icy anger inside me, now.

No masks? No nothing? They can fuck off. Doing my job and that's it.

If my husband catches it from me and dies, I will never forgive.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 21:52

Maybe we will get some new school guidelines? Hmmm... who knows.

They are going to have to rewrite history to remove those tiers that said remote learning if country goes into lockdown.

Bloody hell; it really IS 1984.

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 21:53

phlebas can you get yourself signed off?

If those in charge won’t look after us, we need to look after ourselves.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 21:55

If you do email your MP remember to include your address to prove you’re a constituent.

Mine hears from me once a week or so! Poor man. He could stop making shit decisions, then he'd be safe.

hedgehogger1 · 31/10/2020 21:58

Thing is we're not really saving the economy keeping schools open are we? What % of the workforce has primary aged kids? That's the bit of the economy that's being kept open with schools being open. How does that compare with shutting everything else down to try and balance all the cases being spread by people in education

13luckyblackcats · 31/10/2020 21:58

Thinking of you @monkeytennis97

phlebasconsidered · 31/10/2020 21:58

I think I will consider it. Mum is my biggest worry and it really worries the kids too. My big problem long term is that I am 50, expensive, and any excuse to swap me for a cheapy SCITT will be leapt at so if I kick up a fuss i'll be targeted. That said, my results are always good and they need me.

I just know if mum gets it she's had it and I struggle knowing I'm placing her at risk. Plus the absolute pain in the ass of having to reorganise daytime care again if my current carer decides to "properly" lock down.

We are all in such a shitty position. I also really feel for my RQT. What a start to her career!

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 21:59

I'd sign up for strike action over this. I don't really care anymore about how the profession is seen by the public. They already think we are awful. May as well have real reason for it.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 21:59

What % of the workforce has primary aged kids?

8%

monkeytennis97 · 31/10/2020 22:00

@ohthegoats DH and I would too.

MrsHamlet · 31/10/2020 22:01

At some point, I've ended up being a deputy union rep. My dad has promised to buy me a donkey jacket and a brazier.... I've never been especially militant but this is bloody awful.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 22:08

Oh I'm having fun on twitter tonight. There are some total spanners out there.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/10/2020 22:09

I would do it Phebas. You can’t carry on with that level of worry.

www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november#protecting-people-more-at-risk-from-coronavirus

New guidance is out. They’ve extended the CV group, I think. It used to say over 70s, not over 60s.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 31/10/2020 22:18

That's right @RafaIsTheKingOfClay my dh is in his 60s. His school have him teaching y11 and y10 only this year. We really don't know what to do. Terrified.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/10/2020 22:26

I have no words. Covid secure is part of what got us into this mess in the first place. And schools are definitely not safe.

WhyNotMe40 · 31/10/2020 22:33

And can I just say again - where the FUCK is Gavin?!

GuyFawkesDay · 31/10/2020 22:35

This is utter shite isn't it?
Thrown to the lions

Time to get a job somewhere else. I love teaching but I can't do this much longer. It'll send me over the edge

WhyNotMe40 · 31/10/2020 22:35

DH has gone to bed. I'm staying up drinking. I know I'll regret it tomorrow, but it's what I'm doing. I have emailed my MP (Thanks Noble). Not that it will help as he's a tosser who is a party line Tory to the bone.

SmileEachDay · 31/10/2020 22:39

Hi all. I’m just catching up.

So am I correct in thinking that school and unis are to carrying on as before and that there wasn’t anything mandated re further safety measures?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/10/2020 22:42

As far as I can see Smile. That wide range of measures you’ve all implemented makes them safe. Presumably even Piggy’s school.

SmileEachDay · 31/10/2020 22:46

And this is despite the data showing 11-19 is the fastest rising infection group?

Do they think teenagers spend their time going out for dinner or something?

The union response seems robust.

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 22:49

I'm listening to extended versions of Nina Simone Sinnerman on headphones and RAGING all over Twitter. My Tory voting dad is in the room and watching the news really loudly. Sinnerman is REALLY LOUD.

I'm not a drinker, but if I was....

TheHoneyBadger · 31/10/2020 23:00

Don't even know what to say.

It's like a bad joke. I was invited out to the pub tomorrow and said no on account of school the next day. Rethinking that.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/10/2020 23:04

How’s the holiday going goats? Hope you haven’t been washed or blown away.

Travelling abroad is banned to going home to see my mum & the rest of my family is obviously out despite there being much much less covid there. Confused

Augustbreeze · 31/10/2020 23:08

So sorry phleb.

The guidance does say that ECV people shouldn't go to work. (Then helpfully mentions ESA...) I just wonder whether an ECV teacher is going to have to threaten court or something, then they'll back down?? The unions are going to be all over it, surely?

BRTUS all seem to be planning to keep their kids at home. I did think Boris showed govt is aware of the fear some parents have. They're surely not going to get far with the threatened fines for non-attendance now are they?

I use "surely" too much
