You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

What gets me is this... what if it doesn't bring down cases enough? What if the NHS is still overrun?

We're supposed to go and get ourselves infected, whilst knowing there may not even be a hospital bed for us?

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 19:47

I'm going to go for leaving at half 3. Any work without the kids will be done at home.

winewolfhowls · 31/10/2020 19:48

There's a petition too titled
Reclose schools and colleges due to increase in COVID-19 cases
Over 9k on it already

Saucery · 31/10/2020 19:50

I know, Nellodee. We’re the experiment. And we are relying on everyone else to make sure no community transmission whatsoever. I don’t believe in other peoples’ capacity to do that for us. I wish I did.

I think for any teacher who finds this too much then signed off sick with stress is the only way. I understand worries about future career, but what other option is there?

Medra · 31/10/2020 19:54

I don’t think I’m in the right headspace to go back. I will lose it if I get comments from the kids like I had last half-term. I was enforcing the seating plan, knowing that not all the class will be sent home if we get a positive and a kid says ‘But Miss, we were in and out of each other’s houses during lockdown so it doesn’t matter if I love and sit next to him’ 🤬
I can’t believe there will be no masks in classrooms and we’re just expected to go back and carry on regardless.

theluckiest · 31/10/2020 19:55

@Nellodee

I feel so pissed off right now.

Usually I would have spent half of this half term working. This time, I think my school is fucking lucky if I just turn up and go into the classroom. If I do that, they are getting a lot more from me than I think I should be giving them right now, and they can sack me if they don't think it's enough.

Rock bottom morale here.

This. Absolutely this.

I cannot put up with the usual bullshit anymore because I just think 🤷‍♀️. I'm here aren't I? Risking my health. What more do you want? You want me to give a shit as well cos that ain't happening.

Finding it increasingly difficult to respond professionally to stupid emails about this data or that, missing jumpers, this survey or that questionnaire.....

ohthegoats · 31/10/2020 19:56

So if I swim every morning until Thursday, I'll have 'only' paid £10 a swim between now and December. Nice. Haha.

This is shit.

we are relying on everyone else to make sure no community transmission whatsoever

That's the terrifying bit - you've met 'everyone else' right? Erk.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/10/2020 19:56

Did anyone see the new school guidance published a couple of days ago?

Ds's school sent it through. I've not read beyond the first few lines but I think it's aimed at parents.

Feels a bit gaslighty.

Nellodee · 31/10/2020 19:58

I keep oscillating between thinking - the NHS staff have to keep pushing on, what would we do if they said, this isn't fair on us, we quit?

And then thinking - I just don't care about this job enough to risk my life or my health for it. I think my chances of dying currently are about 1 in 1000 (which is just about at my upper limit) but then I also think, if we run out of hospital care, no-one has a clue as to how many of the 5% who end up in there would die or not. We're in a whole new world, if we're talking about survival rates in an overrun NHS scenario.

I know I am panicking a bit. I think probably not shutting schools would bring R close enough to 1 that we would either not be totally overrun, or have enough time to react and choose another path. I think it's highly unlikely that I personally am going to be harmed by this... but I think it's pretty damned certain that nationwide, plenty of teachers in my exact same position will be.

And I could bloody cry for the vulnerable teachers out there.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 20:00

Bollocks , knew I should have taken DS for a haircut at 1/2 term.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/10/2020 20:01

I've banged on about this;

The NE brought in restrictions whereby you couldn't meet anyone anywhere, but everything was open. So gyms, swims etc.

That's flattened our curve. Witty mentioned it.

Schools aside, as they were open (and it was v depressing not to see friends but just go to work), at least we could go swimming or to the gym or certain shops.

Interestingly few did.

I've wondered what would have happened if that rule had been brought in country wide earlier. (The south would have not been happy though. And I think the NW had some extra restrictions as with Leicester. I do think theyve probably got restriction fatigue.)

Augustbreeze · 31/10/2020 20:02

Yeah OK maybe we should all preface questions like that with "Apart from at piggy's school, obvs," 😊

monkeytennis97 · 31/10/2020 20:06

@motherrunner

DH is actually crying. I think it’s hit him with two teacher parents that our children are at real risk of losing one of us - maybe not our lives, but who they know is as healthy parents.

Fuck Boris.

Same here. Although it's me crying. DH keeps saying we have to just try and be positive. Not going to see our DS again too.. how are we going to do this when we can't see him?SadI think it will break us. I spoke to DS tonight and I've been trying to get him to understand 'soon' in the context of 'we'll see you soon' (impossible but I'm trying) I asked him when we will see him hoping he'd say soon and he said 'Sunday'. Broke our hearts. How the fuck am I going to do this? Sorry everyone just big blubbering mess here.
Saucery · 31/10/2020 20:09

It’s the meeting people thing that gets abused the most, NeurotrashWarrior. We can meet in groups of 6 (NW), outside. But people abuse that and it can’t be policed very well.

Saucery · 31/10/2020 20:09

monkeytennis I don’t know what to say. It’s just awful.

motherrunner · 31/10/2020 20:11

@monkeytennis97 I don’t know what to say to make things better. Everything will just sound trite. If you ever need to reach out just PM me. Please know I’m thinking of you, your DH and DS.

Nellodee · 31/10/2020 20:11

Oh, monkeytennis Sad

Thank you everyone Thanks It's so amazing the support we are all getting from each other on here. You are all very special people to me. Was telling DH all about you last night and showing him your posts. I have no idea how to PM anyone on here on the phone app!? Any ideas? Smile

eitak22 · 31/10/2020 20:19

@monkeytennis97 sending very unmumsnetty hugs your way and Flowers

motherrunner · 31/10/2020 20:22

I agree. The support is amazing. Thank you all.

DreamingofBrie · 31/10/2020 20:24

I'm so sorry monkeytennis. I hope you will be able to see your ds soon x

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 20:25

Grant Shapps has literally just posted that aerosol transmission infographic on Twitter. Presumably to justify pubs shutting.

noblegiraffe · 31/10/2020 20:26

Flowers for everyone who is struggling with this.

I think I’m going to email my union and MP to ask why we’re considered expendable.

There’s still time to hand in notice today.

minisoksmakehardwork · 31/10/2020 20:29

Oh @monkeytennis97 I feel so much for you. Huge hugs for you x
